Current polling shows Zohran Mamdani with significant lead in mayoral race

| July 31, 2025

Recent polling done for the New York mayoral race favors Zohran Mamdani over the other candidates. Depending on the scenario, Mamdani is looking at anywhere from 50% to 59%. Even if the other candidates either dropped out or joined forces, Mamdani continues to have the best chances of winning the general election. It doesn’t help that Eric Adams and Andrew Cuomo have “bad names”.

From New York Post:

Mamdani, a Queens assemblyman and the Democratic nominee, is projected to handily win the November general election with 50% of likely voters in the latest survey, released Tuesday by Zenith Research/Public Progress Solutions.

Ex-Gov. Andrew Cuomo, who has decided to continue his comeback tour after his embarrassing June primary loss to 33-year-old Mamdani, came in a distant second at 22%, while GOP nominee Curtis Sliwa pulled 13%.

Mayor Eric Adams, who bailed on the Democratic Party line after his historic corruption case took months for the Trump administration to kill, failed to muster more than 7% support.

The poll found that even if Adams or Cuomo had their shot at facing off against the DSA lawmaker one on one, neither would come close to knocking off the current front-runner.

Cuomo came the closest, but still only received 40% to Mamdani’s 55% in a scenario where the other candidates dropped out, according to the poll of 1,000 likely voters.

If Adams squared off solely against Mamdani, the survey had the socialist easily winning 59%-32%.

The nagging issue for Adams and Cuomo, who both have been trying to rebrand themselves with the public, is the strong negatives dogging each campaign with strong name recognition.

About 60% of likely voters said they would never consider voting for Cuomo, while 68% of those polled said Adams will never be their choice come November.

If Cuomo or Adams were to abandon their independent campaigns, neither mayoral foe came close to Mamdani, the poll found.

Reap what you sow, New York.

Do not want to hear about buyer’s remorse.

Deckie

Leftists never admit they’re wrong. Ever.

When the recipe turns out tasting like absolute shit, they’ll shovel in mouthfuls and tell you through tears and bouts of gagging how great it tastes.

Yes, they’re a special kind of retard. The kind actual retards call retarded.

5JC

May they get the government they deserve.

If they want an poorly educated 30 something year old who has never had a real job, that isn’t qualified to run a McDonalds, that I wouldn’t trust to run a register at a 7/11, who has adopted the most tried and failed government system in the world, to run one of the world’s largest cities, well what could go wrong? I mean other than everything?

BennSue

Hahahahah suck it New York City.

I do not live in New York. So I want to go there and get some of them free groceries. May get a free apartment and some spending money. Or as they call it, guaranteed basic income. Then when the money dries up, I’ll leave and go home. Looking forward to living off the man! Yes, I’m being sarcastic!

Hey, Wall Street! I see this in your future:

Is this lead before or after he grew and evolved and now says he doesn’t want to defund the police? Said, of course, after the cop was killed in Manhattan.

5JC

Many Dems are doing a full reverse on the defund the police thing, leaving tire tracks all over the backs of their BLM supporters. On the one hand it’s amusing, OTOH, those of us who were the political ping pong balls haven’t forgotten and won’t forget.

Deckie

Guy’s doing a lotta back pedaling now over his negative remarks on the NYPD. Total snake.

Amusing thing is that most of what he’s campaigning on— if not everything— are things he doesn’t even have the power or ability to implement.

There really is no one stupider than the American Leftist in a voting booth… been nice knowin’ ya, NY.

Remember when Chicago elected avowed Socialist and Black Nationalist Brandon Johnson because they thought he “couldn’t be any worse” than sleestak-looking Lori Lightfoot. He then proceeds to drive Chi-raq further into the ground and is currently polling in single digits. Too many voters are like small children when you tell them the stove is hot, but they got to put their fingers on it to get burned just to be sure.

In NYC in 1989, David Dinkins squared off against Giuliani after 12 years of bleeding heart liberal Ed Koch. He was soft and crime and did nothing when crack exploded in the mid 80’s New Jack City-style. Of course the voters didn’t want a former prosecutor to bring law and order to NYC, so they elected the limpest noodle they could muster in David Dinkins. Well, crime/crack just went off the rails and homicides reached 2,000+. Finally, reason prevailed and Rudy won in ’93. he almost the doubled the size of NYPD, and it became the safest major city in the US. Of course it all went to shit during Bloomberg’s 12 years when he change to a Democrat. de Blassio & Adams have have just kick the can down the road.

NYC voters need to burn their fingers on the stove with this Commie Clown. NYC maybe be the next Detroit, Baltimore, or St. Louis, but I don’t work there anymore so I don’t give a fuck. They sow the commie wind so let them reap the commie whirlwind. It will be funny watch them blame NYC’s problems on Trump while they do complete opposite of everything and wonder why it blows up in their faces. Yeah, Communism will work this time

5JC

It was widely known that Koch used cocaine at his gay orgies. When the epidemic started he didn’t realize the scope of the problem or think it was a big deal untill the later 80s when it could no longer be ignored.

Fyrfighter

The cocaine epidemic, or AIDS?

Don’t come crying later.
You know who/what you’re voting for.

And when you decide to move out because it’s just TOO HORRIBLE, best leave that Socialist crap behind. Don’t go trying to import it to your new neighborhood.

One of the few times I would advocate for a “law”, that wherever you move to, you’re NOT allowed to register/vote in local/county/state elections for five years.
And don’t whine, or I’ll make it TEN years.

Blaster

I don’t live in NY. Won’t live in NY!! So I don’t have a dog in the race, but come on New Yorkers! What in the actual hell is wrong with them? Do they actively try to vote in the very worst possible candidate? They be better to reelect Adams. It seems like he has at least evolved some from a total, steaming pile of shit to just a turd!

SFC D

Hasta la vista, NYC. You’ll get the governance you deserve.

No polls on Curtis Sliwa. I wonder how the NY Mafia boys think of zohran giving the finger to the statue of Columbus when he was at the site. I wonder how many 55 gal. drums are still on the bottom of Jamaica bay in Queens.

“No polls on Curtis Sliwa”

Yeah, and the guy is Polish…go figure.

jeff LPH 3 63-66

Curtis did more for the city with the Guardian Angels on crime.than any of the ny than the ass holes that are running. I lived in NYC in the Borough of Queens from 1945 till moving across the county line from NYC into Nassau County a couple of miles from my former home around 197???? My mind just went blank on the time of departure

jeff LPH 3 63-66

I forgot to add on the first line that Curtis was much polished on what he did for the city. i forgot how many bullet holes he had in when his wifes father hit man driving the cab put the hit on him as he bailed out the cab window.

Like my late Dad always said, “hard heads make sore asses!” Gunna suck to be you NYC. And then what will happen when all the rich people pull out of NYC and the police are defunded and the Commies and criminals are taking over the big apple? Won’t be able to fix it then!

Don’t forget to add the illegals into the mix

A Proud Infidel®™

Ahh yes, D-rats value illegal aliens over American Citizens.

Blaster

We have been on a VERY slippery slope for so many years now, I doubt that we can EVER climb back up the hill.

David

I wonder how much of the poll number is simply having heard his name, “good” recognition vs. the “bad” names. The average big city voter is, tbh, dumb as a post.

Anonymous

NYC is f*cked (or the soon will be).

CHARLES

As a practical matter, he may be elected as the mayor, but he won’t be the king. How many of his proposals can realistically be expected to be implemented by a city council?

He will have some direct action authority, such as the ability to appoint — or not appoint — a Chief of Police, but can he do all the socialist things he has declared are his goal solely as the mayor?

He will get in if the votes are split.

Forest Bondurant

Rumor on the street is if he’s elected, the NYPD will experience a mass exodus of uniformed personnel. That department is already struggling with hiring new candidates.

Sucks to suck

jeff LPH 3 63-66

I think that there are around 15 hundred officers puting in retirement papers.

5JC

That works out to a net loss of 300 a year just from retirement. Figure new officer attrition is about 30% a year, or another 360 a year and other losses are probably around 800-900 a year. That is assuming full academy classes.

5JC

Google AI says starting pay at NYPD is $42,500 a year. This is wrong of course, the actual number is $60,884. This is only $8000 more per year than here where the cost of living is about half of NYC and housing is about 1/3. It is also less than most surrounding agencies.

Seattle PD, where the city council openly hates the police has a starting annual pay of about $120,000 a year. They are at about 55% manpower and have no way to fix it.

NYPD is about 85% but getting ready to go into a steep decline in the next five years. Probably by 2030 they will be at 65% strength without policy changes.

Forest Bondurant

Cursory research approximates that there are about 36,000 uniformed officers currently serving with the NYPD. If 1,500 of them walk, that equates to 42% out the door.

Add other attrition possibilities and smaller academy classes, social workers (or whoever the city decides to use to fill the void) are going to find out the hard way that criminals don’t give f@ck.

Mamdani can do all the backpedaling he wants. The NYPD has a long memory and won’t forget how it’s been treated in the past.

A Proud Infidel®™

That’s like chickens voting for Colonel Sanders, they’re going to get themselves cooked!

AW1 Rod

Outstanding! I hope Commie Mamdami wins, and finishes off NYC once and for all!

rgr769

Then it will need Snake Plisken.

Exhibit A of the proof that the denizens of New Yawk Chitty who vote are terminally brain dead.

A Proud Infidel®™

So if Mamdani gets elected, might as well rename NYC to New Kabul or New Kandahar!
