Out-of-control paraglider barrels into shop roof as shocked onlookers

A paragliding tourist in the Loei province of Thailand lost control while attempting to land and crashed through the roof of a shop, according to footage obtained by Fox News Digital.

Footage of the incident shows the man slowly descending toward a market where locals were reportedly celebrating the Phi Ta Khon Festival Saturday.

The festival, also known as the Ghost Festival, is celebrated by Buddhist followers over a three-day period and often attracts visitors from all over the world, though one attendee came in with an unexpected bang this year.

People watched as the paraglider missed the open area in a nearby field he had intended to land in and instead veered off course and crashed into a canopy hanging over the busy market.

The video footage showed vendors and shoppers alike startled by the crash landing over their heads.

Some items fell off the market walls following the impact of the crash, though the paraglider did not fall through the canopy.

The identity of the individual, along with his nationality, remain unknown.

“I don’t know why he veered off track. We weren’t aware he had lost control until he fell through the roof,” one onlooker by the name of Sakawaduean Chan Nai told Viral Press.

Despite the precarious accident, neither the paraglider nor any onlookers were harmed.

The individual was reportedly able to walk away from the crash, leaving the roof dented where he had landed on the steel frames, though it was altogether still intact.

“I hope this serves as a lesson for everyone to be more careful. It was an event with many people. It was a shock for us, and he could have hurt them, too,” Sakawaduean added.

Shooting at Oakland’s Jack London Square leaves wounded man under arrest
Authorities say the man shot himself in the foot in an exchange of gunfire with another person

An exchange of gunfire Wednesday night in Jack London Square left a 37-year-old man with a self-inflicted wound and under arrest, while the man who shot at him was being sought, authorities said.

A 24-year-old woman with the man who was shot was also arrested for trying to hide his gun, authorities said.

The shooting, which left several parked vehicles with bullet holes, happened about 7:05 p.m. Wednesday in the 90 block of Broadway, near the avenue’s southern end at the waterfront.

Police said the 37-year-old man and the woman were walking on the sidewalk when another man ran up to them and began shooting at them.

The 37-year-old man pulled his own gun, police said. It was believed he fired more than one shot at the other gunman but also shot himself in the foot, authorities said.

The gunman who initially opened fire fled before a swarm of police got to the area.

The wounded man was taken to a hospital for treatment. He was placed under arrest at the hospital on suspicion of several charges, including assault with a firearm and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

The woman was found with the gun trying to hide in a nearby business. She was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed firearm.

Most of $500K used to celebrate local MN Black-owned businesses went to out-of-state businesses, report says

An independent report released by the city of Minneapolis has found that most of the nearly $500,000 in taxpayer dollars spent to celebrate local Black businesses at a February expo actually went to businesses based outside the state.

The businesses provided food, entertainment and other event needs, the report said. The city paid $269,500 from its general fund to a total of 25 vendors in Georgia, New York, North Carolina and Maryland, and it paid about $230,000 to its 35 vendors in Minnesota.

City Council Member Linea Palmisano, who chairs the city’s audit committee, said: “I’m extremely disappointed that this event was promoted as a celebration of Black History Month and supporting local Black businesses ended up expending almost as many city funds to out-of-state businesses,” Minnesota Public Radio reported.

Baker Tilly, a public accounting and consulting firm, prepared the independent report for the city auditor’s office after the expo — titled “I Am My Ancestors’ Wildest Dreams” and hosted by the city’s Department of Race, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging — fell far short of expectations.

The expo was expected to attract up to 20,000 attendees, but only 3,700 registered and fewer than that attended, according to the report.

The fallout led to the resignation of Tyeastia Green, who was hired last year as the department’s director, the Star Tribune reported. Green’s actions, along with those of a contractor she selected to run the event, were at the center of the Baker Tilly report.

Green did not immediately respond to a request for comment by The Associated Press on Wednesday.

Clueless Yellowstone visitor runs screaming ‘It’s hot!’ after illegally dipping hand in 174-degree hot spring

Too hot to handle!

A hapless visitor to Yellowstone National Park’s world-famous hot springs got a thermal surprise after dunking her hand in the spring’s steaming-hot waters.

In a video that has gone viral, a man and a woman defy legal restrictions and common sense when they dismount a park boardwalk at Silex Spring on the Fountain Paint Pot Nature Trail in Wyoming.

The pair then scurry down a grassy embankment and approach the 174-degree hydrothermal pool.

“Stupid,” the man recording the video remarks.

The woman rolls up her sleeves, crouches on the ground at the edge of the spring and then gingerly dips the digits of her right hand and the tip of her shoe into the scalding water, while grasping her companion’s hand with her left hand.

She then quickly scrambles to her feet and runs back towards the wooden boardwalk, yelling, “It’s hot! It’s very hot!” drawing chuckles from onlookers.

The Instagram post includes a quote from the person who took the video, recounting a brief conversation he said he had with the man in the video just before the incident.

“I told him that was a bad idea and they shouldn’t get off the boardwalk,” the Instagram user is quoted as saying. “His response was ‘whatever man.’”

The eyewitness said that he would have reported the visitors’ antics to the authorities, but there was no park ranger around at the time.

Visitors to Yellowstone National Park are strictly prohibited from touching, swimming or soaking in hot springs.

“Water in hot springs can cause severe or fatal burns, and scalding water underlies most of the thin, breakable crust around hot springs,” the National Park Service’s Yellowstone safety page warns.

More than 20 people have died from burns suffered after they entered or fell into Yellowstone’s hot springs, according to the agency.

The Instagram video is now under investigation, officials with Yellowstone National Park told the news outlet Buckrail.

Last summer, a human foot in a shoe was found floating in Yellowstone’s Abyss Pool, the park’s 53-foot-deep hot spring that reaches 140 degrees.

In 2016, a visitor may have died and completely dissolved after soaking in another scalding Yellowstone hot spring. No remains were ever recovered.

Owner of Pop-Up Drug Shop Selling “Clean” Substances Dies of Overdose

He died doing what he loved.

A Vancouver man who opened up a mobile shop selling “clean” drugs, including heroin, cocaine, meth, and MDMA, died of a suspected fentanyl overdose.

Jerry Martin, 51, dealt with a cocaine addiction and spent most of his youth homeless, VICE reported. He initially survived the overdose and was hospitalized for a few days before passing away on Friday.

In May, Martin opened a Drugs Store — the first brick-and-mortar shop in Canada and the U.S. to sell illicit substances, but his products were tested to be free of fentanyl or other adulterants. He set up shop in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, the epicenter of Canada’s overdose crisis. Less than 24 hours after its grand opening, authorities arrested him. His partner, Krista Thomas, told Vice that Martin “wanted to save lives.”

“Jerry believed that people were self-medicating their trauma and so long as they were doing that, they needed a safe supply to do it,” Thomas told VICE. “He’s no more exempt than any other human being on this earth. He had his own trauma and unfortunately, he relapsed.”

In previous interviews with Vice, Martin said he decided to open up Drugs Store after his stepbrother, Gord Rennie, passed away from a drug overdose after being released from prison.

“My mom said I should invite him over and I didn’t and he died that day,” Martin said.

In January alone, 211 lives were lost to a drug overdose in British Columbia — averaging seven a day, CBC reported. Since a national emergency was declared in 2016, the death rate has more than doubled, going from 20.5 per 100,000 to a rate of 47.

“I am giving them addictive drugs, but I’m giving them safer addictive drugs than you can get on the street, where they might be laced with fentanyl or some other drug,” Martin told VICE News during the opening.

Beginning this year, the city began its three-year pilot program where adults found with illicit substances of less than 2.5 grams will not be charged or arrested, City News reported.

“Substance use is a public health matter, not a criminal justice one,” B.C. Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Jennifer Whiteside said.

Two years ago the Canadian province opened the first clinic offering take-home medical grade heroin, CBC reported.

Similar harm reduction practices are being tried in the United States. In New York City, drug users can go to a vending machine to access free Narcan and crack pipes, Breitbart reported.

Teh Stoopid…it burns…literally. Talking about cooking your own goose and needing some ice, man!

Shooting off their mouth or shooting off your foot? ’bout the same, right?

Whichever the way the wind blows, ‘ere I go.

Not a “paraglider,” just a parachutist who has poor canopy control. Looked like a tight LZ, and based on the wind sock, he was off the wind line.

*WHOOOT!*, that’s some Politician Grade Stupid! I wonder if the Park Rangers at Yellowstone among other National Parks have a betting pool on how many Tourists that year will surrender to Darwin and by what means aka the hot springs, trying to cuddle live Bison, …?
Just how much of that money spent to “celebrate” Black-owned MN businesses went into the pockets of politicians who thought of that?
HEY, Oakland has all kinds of Gun Laws, and according to the politicians who pimp them, that should have kept it from happening!

The Yellowstone thing reminds me that this December I gotta put up signs that say “Do not lick” on flagpoles and then wait.

Like putting a “NO SWIMMING” sign up on a flooded river.

Messkit

That didn’t help at all, locally. Last Winter, with record rainfall here in California, roads were being washed out and over, pretty much everywhere. In the north county, a woman decided to drive, with her 5 year old boy, around the “Road Closed-Do Not Cross-FLOODED” signs and barriers.

They have, just this week, continued the search for the boy along a 70 mile stretch of the riverbed.

One week later, a woman in the south county, ignoring the many downed trees, heavy rain, and multiple “Road Closed-FLOODED-Danger!” signs and barriers, decided the signs could not possibly mean her.

They found her still in her car, which had been folded and shoved beneath a massive tree trunk, 40ft off the road in the creekbed.

Tallywhagger

There exists a vast opportunity for people who are “black” to show “black” people how to “move it on up”. Change the idea of “victim” into “entrepreneur” and guide them out of their nonproductive way of thinking into productivity.

This is not an area for the blind to lead the blind so much as for folks who have figured it out to show those who have not how to get to the place they want to be.

Docduracoat

They would have to adopt “white” values of hard work, dedication and delayed gratification.
While anyone can be like this, majority black culture has rejected this kind of thinking.
It’s too bad that Hollywood and Motown project a ghetto culture into black communities that sets them up for failure.

Skivvy Stacker

The people who run the City of Minneapolis are the very same kind of people who would say “whatever”, and run to the 174 degree hot spring to stick their HEADS in it.

Or, the folks who run Minnemogadishu are the same kind of people who would run at Kyle Rittenhouse, trying to whack him with a skateboard.
