Senator Fights for Vetting of Veteran-Owned Businesses

Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa)

Iowa Senator Joni Ernst (R) is fighting for stronger vetting for women-owned, service-disabled veteran-owned business contracting.

Basically, Joni Ernst, who is Republican, feels that the current administration is awarding contracts to ineligible entities “self-certifying” as women-owned small businesses (WOSB) or service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB) to appear as though they are meeting required contracting goals – all without properly vetting them.

Lack of proper vetting, in her view, promotes an increase in fraud and stolen valor.

Because of this, Ernst has introduced a pair of bills to counter this trend.

Ernst Fights for Accountability in Women-Owned, Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business Contracting

WASHINGTON — Despite strong public opposition, the Biden administration is allowing federal agencies to continue awarding contracts to ineligible entities “self-certifying” as women-owned small businesses (WOSB) or service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB) to appear as though they are meeting required contracting goals.

To reduce fraud and stolen valor in federal contracting, U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-Iowa), Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee, introduced the Accountability in Women-Owned Small Business Contracting Act and the Stop Stolen Valor for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business Contractors Act.The efforts require agencies to only take credit for contract awards made to certified WOSB and SDVOSB and force federal agencies failing to meet their WOSB goals to testify before Congress.

“There are no real consequences if federal agencies do not meet their goals to support women-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. Failure has become routine,” said Senator Ernst. “As departments continue to take credit for contract awards made to ineligible businesses, I’m fighting to bring accountability to federal contracting.”

Now, the American Legion has thrown its support behind these bills.

Legion supports bill to address businesses posing as service-disabled veteran owned

The American Legion | May 05, 2023

The American Legion is supporting legislation aimed at reducing stolen valor from small businesses falsely self-certifying as Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs).

Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, introduced the Stop Stolen Valor for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business Contractors Act, as well as the Accountability in Women-Owned Small Business Contracting Act. The bills would require federal agencies to only take credit for contract awards made to certified WOSBs and SDVOSBs.

“There are no real consequences if federal agencies do not meet their goals to support women-owned and service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses. Failure has become routine,” Ernst said in a press release. “As departments continue to take credit for contract awards made to ineligible businesses, I’m fighting to bring accountability to federal contracting.”

“Loopholes allowing small businesses to self-certify as Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Businesses (SDVOSBs) cause imposters to take advantage of government contracting benefits exclusive for SDVOSBs. This has directly led to stolen valor and fraud against the American taxpayer,” said American Legion National Commander Vincent J. “Jim” Troiola. “These egregious practices must end now, that is why The American Legion is proud to support the Stop Stolen Valor for Service-Disabled Veteran-Owned Small Business Contractors Act of 2023 and applaud Senator Ernst’s leadership on behalf of our nation’s heroes.”

I’m trying to get my mind around all of this.

The irony of a government initiative to help veteran-owned businesses actually perpetuates stolen valor and undermines the very thing it is trying to promote.

Hats off to Senator Ernst for attempting to give some proper alignment to all of this.

The business could identify as a women-owned small businesses (WOSB) or service-disabled veteran-owned small businesses (SDVOSB) and, to be honest, the current culture sees nothing wrong with dat.

And ironically the current culture would have seen veterans as
crazed baby killers not that long ago.
It’s a hand up then it’s a hand out then it’s a hand shake then it’s
the back of the hand…..

Heck…if Bruce Jenner can be a woman then Lockheed Martin can be a small business.

Lakers got small business COVID relief for having “less than 50” employees, too.

I worked for a family-run communications company that was considered a woman-owned small business, it was co-owned by a husband and wife, she owned 51%. A couple years later, she wanted a less active role, stock was transferred to him, he now owns 51% and it qualifies as a veteran-owned business. Both completely legit.

How about we just get rid of all this silliness and buy the best quality product at the lowest price?

That’s “racist” now, of course.

Could this spell the end of that juggernaut of an organization, All-Points Logistics, or will Phildo skate again? Tune in next week, same TAH time, same TAH channel!

I wonder if Hack Stone is excited about this idea?

Elaine Ricci looks forward to testifying against government contractors who cheat the federal government with their deceptive claims to qualify for small business set asides. For far too long, these cheaters haven taken MD-2020 from the mouths of Vice Presidents of proud but humble woman owned businesses that sell software to the federal government.

I wonder how Phildo and Psaul/Palmer of the Nutsack feel about this?

Excuse me, it’s “Palmer of the Ballsack”. He earned that title, the least we can do is say his name correctly. 🤣

Anyone remember Gerald Young and his Young G’s BBQ Sauce?
He wanted to expand and sell it in Commissaries?

He played his minority and veteran cards
to con local agencies for business support.

Until VG ran this.

10% for tinnitis, ‘identify’ as a broad and I’ll qualify for both categories.

Now if I only had a business 😉

All-Points Logistics better watch out.

This approach was the the False Commander “Phony” Phil Monkress’s approach to obtaining contracts based upon his Native American, Navy SEAL, and Law Enforcement claims.

Plus his disabled “0” % status.
