Navy Secretary declares climate change as top priority
Carlos Del Toro, Secretary of the Navy, was at the University of the Bahamas when he made this statement. According to Toro, both the Navy and the Marines are accelerating their work towards climate and energy security. He said that climate change is an “all-hands-on-deck” situation.
From the Washington Examiner:
“As the Secretary of the Navy, I can tell you that I have made climate one of my top priorities since the first day I came into office,” Del Toro said in remarks at the University of the Bahamas on March 1. “The U.S. Navy and Marine Corps team has been working on climate and energy security for a long time, and we are accelerating and broadening those efforts.”
Del Toro added that he sees climate change as an “all-hands-on-deck situation.”
Del Toro’s remarks occurred slightly before the Biden administration released its 2024 proposed military budget, which called for fewer naval ships, despite a growing naval threat from China. The U.S. military has been the strongest military force in the world since the 20th century and still has the strongest navy. However, the Chinese navy is larger in terms of fleet size.
The administration’s proposal recommended shrinking the U.S. Navy by a net loss of two ships, despite military experts arguing the administration should increase the number of ships. The proposal recommended decommissioning 11 ships and constructing nine. The military previously set a goal of having 355 manned ships but currently has fewer than 300.
The Washington Examiner and Fox News provide additional details.

It’s all fun and games until you need to fight something above a goatherder…
Well, remember, the goat herders outlasted us. 20 years of effort and Afghanistan is back to how it was in the 90’s.
It usually briefs well.
Looks like the global warming shitbirds are giving us a snow job. That’s the truth and I snow so.
“I told you snow”
Snow shit???
Global warming gonna cause the seas to rise thus covering
more of the planet with water so yeah, we need more ships
ie a bigger Navy. Any climate expert can see that and if there is
one thing we sorely need it’s more climate experts.
And scientists, we need more scientists. Follow the science.
Yeah. Hey, Mierda Del Toro!
This is what he said in 2021:
“Navy Secretary Nominee Pledges To Be Exclusively Focused On The China Threat’”
https://thehill.com/policy/defense/562762-navy-secretary-nominee-pledges-to-be-exclusively-focused-on-the-china-threat/
“Carlos Del Toro, President Biden’s nominee to be Navy secretary, pledged Tuesday to be “exclusively” focused on China if he is confirmed.”
“And if confirmed to the Navy, I am going to be exclusively focused on the China threat and exclusively focused in moving our maritime strategy forward in order to protect Taiwan and all of our national security interests in the Indo-Pacific theater,” he added.”
“We can’t be fighting the wars of yesterday,” he said. “We have to fight the new wars of tomorrow that include cybersecurity and space and many other challenges that are presented. So if confirmed, I look forward to jumping into the fiscal year ’23 budget, and being able to address all these significant challenges in a serious way.”
Well, to be fair, China does create the vast majority of the pollution….
I’m guessing they’ll soon announce they’re bringing back the Sailmaker rating?
Dang it! Ya beat me to it!!
Or, hear me out, just power the ships on all the hot air spewed by: politicians, climitards, Berserkeley students/grads, Michael Moore, The Inventor of the Internet (aka ‘4 house Al’), Greta Van Doomsberg, Darth AOC, etc
That all sounds like the real cause of pollution right thurr…
someone should just blow the wind out of toros sails
The only climate change that the Military needs to concern itself with is how much heat they can bring down upon our enemies and put them on ice, man.
As one of our very own ninja’s favorite memes would say…”this is the stupidest f*cking thing I have heard all day…” So far…the day ain’t over yet
Oh, btw…Happy Spring y’all. It was a balmy 29 degrees F here at Firebase Magnolia…dead center of the Great State of Georgia. Hope the heat wave didn’t affect the Peach Blossoms.
29°?!
How the hell are you still alive? (/mega s)
43 up here in the Peoples Republik of. Will trade for a pecan pie and a quart of ‘shine.
Happy Spring, Brotherman! Praying for y’all and those deelish peaches.
It was shorely a Three Dog Night, My Brother. Well…2 dogs and 2 cats night. Since my Freestone trees don’t bloom for a bit bit, the chill hours helped. They are just greening out with leaves now. Still got a multitude of pecans for that kinda pie, and odd that you should make mention of stump water. Compatriot of mine that runs a BBQ Truck has promised to deliver some “fermented” Peach Pie along with some smoked beef and porked beast.
Side note to Skivvy Stacker…it’ll be 81 here come Thursday. While I’m top fishing bass, bream, and crappie, you can cut another hole in the ice. *grin*
Man, I would have killed for it to be 29 on Saturday morning. My old ass was doing the “Sprint, Drag, and Carry” and 2 mile run events of the ACFT in 15 degree weather with a wind chill of -15. And yes, I passed. I saw someone say that the ACFT is harder than the old test. Clearly someone who never took it. It’s an easier test to pass, but it’s harder to score high.
Yes, but that’s the whole point. The ACFT is changing the mentality of always aiming for a max out. Throughout my military career I consistently maxed out the APFT, that’s why I was successful, until I became to old and slow to max out the 2 mile run.
Now with the ACFT, I have to accept the new reality that I will never max this bitch out. It is a new ball game, a game of rethinking your physical training strategy or settling for mediocre scores, and this old dog aint got the mental flexibility to learn new tricks.
And before you guys talk shit about the old APFT, the minimum to be an infantry NCO was always 90 percent in each event, and nobody scoring that close to the 300 max out is in bad shape.
But then, everything changes. The only constant in military service is change, and we have to adapt to the new reality.
I’m not disagreeing with you. It’s just that someone made a blanket statement that it was a “harder” test. The two events that are ball-breakers are the “Sprint, Drag, Carry” and the run. The run isn’t bad in and of itself, but doing it 10-15 minutes after the SDC makes it a bit more challenging. Everything else is not that difficult. And even my “almost 50-year old ass” passed both with time to spare on an EXTREMELY cold day. It sucks to run in a -15 degree wind chill.
29 degrees is a warm summer day up here in Minnesota…ya wimp.
Isn’t that shorts and t-shirt weather up there?
Sounds like Wyoming summer.
KoB:
Thank You for the reminder…
Enjoy the First Day Of Spring!!!
Also…As shared, today, 20 March, 20 years ago, we invaded Iraq.
Invaded.
We had no business being there in the first place.
We are not stupid. We know why GWB, Cheney and Crew did it.
We were Boots On The Ground, 20 March 2003, the beginning of OIF.
Too many unnecessary lives lost.
Another reason why we feel we need to stay out of Ukraine.
We are sick and tired of being the World’s Police Force. Time for other Countries to step up to the plate.
Plus, look who our current Commander In Chief is…🙄😳🫣
Our Current Fearless Leader…
Kinda feel sorry for him….🫣

Joe couldn’t lead a turd down the bowl.
Nice turd of a phrase.
If only he would jump in to lead the way…
Testify, ninja. If our political masters hada listened to The Bear in ’91, GWII woulda never been needed. The “Never Ending Story” was a kid’s movie, not a template for “Never Ending Wars.” I had friends and relatives in both conflicts, a number of which either came home in a box or missing parts.
We’re spending billions of $s on “Defense” yet we are not defending these States United. And most of those $s are buying pieces of crap equipment that don’t work.
The MIC grins.
AMEN!!!
👏👏👏👏👍👍👍👍👌👌👌
“Polls Show Support For Iraq War Drop In 20 Years Post Invasion
https://www.militarytimes.com/news/your-military/2023/03/17/polls-show-support-for-iraq-war-drop-in-20-years-post-invasion/
Am pretty sure TAH has OIF Vets, yet 20 March 2003 is not addressed…
Nothing is posted on the beginning of OIF…
Wonder Why….
🤔🙄
70+ this morning down here in Palm Beach County and I had to put on a sweat shirt over my t shirt and then a jacket over that.
A shipmate of mine succinctly described our mission to a libtard cousin of his when she asked “what do you Navy guys do exactly?”
“Put hot lead on hostile targets.”
That’s all we need to know. None of this other horseshit.
There was a time when shit hit the fan, we reduced stuff to rubble and then continued to bounce the rubble.
BAWEEEET! (That’s a bosun’s pipe)
Attention all hands. Natural wind over the deck is minimal. Second rowing section augment rower banks 2, 3 and 4. Prepare for 20 knot rowing speed.
Pilots and NFOs anticipate extra 20% arm-waving to ensure safe climb speed at end of cat stroke.
Catapult sections use augmented arm pull strength 20% when pulling cat shuttles.
That is all.
Green Naval Aviation – it’s gonna be great.
This morning there was a layer of ice on the hood of my truck – and I’m in Pensacola. Global warming my ass!
I got a lot of use out of my “surplus” parka when I lived in Florida. Quite a shock the first winter. Even had a snow flurry or two.
I would think Sec Nav would want rising sea levels because it expands his bailiwick.
Oh….there’s a dick joke in there…….
There’s ALWAYS a dick joke if you try hard enough to find one!😂
I remember what happened to the “Yellow bird with the yellow bill” when I was in…and it wasn’t favorable to the bird.
What would we do with that bird now? Invite it in for food and water? Promise it that we would do all we could to make it’s world a climate stable one? Promise to use electric cars, and solar power and wind power? And then…ONLY THEN…throwing into a wind turbine to smash it’s little bill, wings, feet, guts, and tail to small bird bits?
[…] blog of the day is This ain’t Hell…, with a post on the Navy Secretary declaring ‘climate change’ a top […]
The Pirates Cove
Didn’t make it past the lead photo.
Maybe some folks will finally see how important being a veteran can be in evaluating PoTUS candidates.
Sounds like John Fonda-Kerry has his hands in this sordid story at some level. He and Dick Blumenthal.
Carlos Del Toro? More like Caca Del Toro.
No shit
No, not “no shit”, bullshit.
🤣💩
Ya Got me CPT , It went right past me when I read it. Bull in spanish=Toro.
Maybe Hack Stone could get us a deal on some translation software. That’s probably in Mrs. Stone’s… bailiwick.
“Earth To Hit Critical Warming Threshold By Early 2030s, Climate Panel Says”
https://www.nytimes.com/2023/03/20/climate/global-warming-ipcc-earth.html
“Earth is likely to cross a critical threshold for global warming within the next decade, and nations will need to make an immediate and drastic shift away from fossil fuels to prevent the planet from overheating dangerously beyond that level, according to a major new report released on Monday.”
“To stave off a chaotic future, the report recommends that nations move away from the fossil fuels that have underpinned economies for more than 180 years.”
“Governments and companies would need to invest three to six times the roughly $600 billion they now spend annually on encouraging clean energy in order to hold global warming at 1.5 or 2 degrees, the report says.”
“UN Calls For Mass Fossil Fuel Shutdowns To Prevent ‘Climate Time-Bomb'”
“UN secretary-general calls for ‘ceasing all licensing or funding of new oil and gas’ and ‘stopping any expansion of existing oil and gas reserves'”
https://www.foxnews.com/politics/un-calls-mass-fossil-fuel-shutdowns-prevent-climate-time-bomb
It seems the UN cares more about this “Climate Change” stuff than the Russia/Urkraine situation or China/North Korea.
Same with Alvie Bragg and DJT. Bragg cares more about DJT than cleaning up criminals in NYC.
And now this…🙄🫣 Guess Manhattan does not give a hoot about criminals…
“NYPD preparing for possible indictment of former President Donald Trump in Manhattan DA investigation”
https://www.cbsnews.com/newyork/news/nypd-preparing-for-possible-indictment-of-former-president-donald-trump-in-manhattan-da-investigation/
“The NYPD is stepping up security after former President Donald Trump encouraged his supporters to protest this week in New York City.”
“Police officers were seen putting up barricades Monday near Manhattan Criminal Court.”
CBS had an article about Congressional slush fund for sexual harassment. According to the article dated 2017, the very end of article states as of this writing, no progress has been made.
I wish I could link it, but I’m not tablet savvy.
Bill Clinton paid 850k to Paula Jones to keep her quiet.
Hand cuffs and frog marches not required for them.
Perhaps Trump haters should clean the windows in their glass houses before throwing stones.
Should Trump be elected, I see scorched earth in Washington DC future. I see him following nobody’s advice on who to keep on staff.
If Trump is elected the Dems will make 6 Jan look like the college prank that it was. They will be so busy burning shit down they won’t even notice the snipers on the rooftops till it is too late.
Are you trying to make me finish? Because that’s thats the textual equivalent to a hourglass 5’11” redhead who’s armed with a Daniel Defense and 30 rack of ice cold Lites.
We should be grateful to Bill Clinton. He alerted us to the horrors of Peyronie’s disease. There is no telling how many men he has saved from “the bends” by increasing public awareness of this terrible problem (not my problem, of course) through his exposure of the problem to the light of day.
https://houstonmenshealth.com/peyronies-disease-before-and-after-pictures/
“Earth is likely to cross a critical threshold for global warming within the next decade”
How many threshholds is that, now? I have lost count.
What pronouns does Secretary Del Toro use? 🙄
He uses “Mierda” as his pronoun.
y “Maricón”…
And by the way, he may be SECNAV, but he will NEVER be as cool as Carlos “The Barracuda” del Gato:
https://youtu.be/sEGOGMpl4Ng
As a native Spanish speaker I find it hilarious because the last name should probably be “Delgado”, but instead the character’s name translates to Carlos “The Barracuda” of the Cat!🤣
I thought the navy was “an adventure” rather than just a job. I’m guessed that saving the world through fighting the Battle of Climate Change might qualify… I hear they are bringing back the NDSM—it’s that big!
Cool, I guess? I’ll be a 3-time recipient. Rarefied company indeed!😂🥂
IMO he’s simply doing the bidding of his handlers.
