“No approaching any more or you will pay full responsibility”

| February 27, 2023

A U.S. Navy P-8 flying over international waters, over the South China Sea, heard this warning from the Chinese Military. This warning was followed up by a Chinese fighter jet flying 500 feet from the P-8’s left wing. The P-8 continued its mission, then broke away when the mission was completed.

From Fox News

“Typically we don’t get a response, sometimes we’ll get nonverbal responses. But overall we’re trying to encourage a safe and professional encounter while we’re both operating in international airspace,” Capt. Will Toraason, the commander of U.S. Navy surveillance aircraft, told an NBC News reporter who was on the plane at the time.

“Since I’ve been in the Navy, going on 18, 19 years now, I can tell you there is a dramatic change over that span, specifically the South China Sea,” Cmdr. Marc Hines said, which is due in part to China building artificial islands and runways in the South China Sea in recent years.

The interaction between the two military superpowers comes weeks after tensions flared over a Chinese surveillance balloon that flew over the United States for several days before being shot down by the United States off the coast of South Carolina.

In a “confrontational” meeting between U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken and China’s Foreign Affairs Minister Wang Yi about two weeks later, Blinken told his counterpart the balloon incident “must never happen again.”

Really appropriate.

Did the Secretary of Defense warn his Chinese counterpart that there would a surveillance flight? If not, that was mighty rude of him. //S//

“No approaching any more or you will pay full responsibility”
Sounds like we have the site of our next multi-national naval exercise in the SCS.

So how many billions of dollars in defense weapons are we sending to Ukrai-, er, I mean, Taiwan this year?

CodeBreaker

Hopefully enough to kill a fraction of reds that they’ve killed in Ukraine. Or is killing bad guys with U.S. weapons a problem now? For a bunch of veterans you guys sure love deepthroating our adversaries.

Chinese translations into English…
This is a real one I read many years ago, seen in a Chinese hotel.

“Elevator is broken. Until it is fix you will be unbearable”.

Perhaps an F22 or F35 could be following the P-8 by a few miles kinda stealthy and all, then pull up on the chinese fighter’s wing. They could exchange hand signals, like this one.

Hate you too.

The list is long, but distinguished.

So good to see that everyone is checking the DA Form 6 and seeing whose day it is to be “that guy”. Draw an extra ration of grog from my personal Class VI Supplies. Take some that are on ice, man. No danger from being in the zone.

A maritime patrol aircraft in international airspace is jumped by foreign fighters? Say it ain’t so!

Same stuff, different year…

A 737 isn’t as tough as an EP-3E. The next time the dinks collide with a US MPA, the results will be catastrophic.

AW1Ed

The crew in that pic was slacking- the flaps were up. When we got bounced Flight would dirty up and hang on the props just above stall speed, just to piss ’em off.
Then out came the Pressed Hams.

MustangCryppie

I was always amazed that a fighter could keep up with the EP-3. Talk about slooooooow.

MustangCryppie

Ahhh! The memories. I remember a fighter that put its wing over our wing, then pulled ahead of us and “thumped” us.

Good times!

Hate_me

Listening to you aircraft folk speak your jargon… is this like when you hear about us groundpounders discuss fistfights at bars and firefights in the sand?

MustangCryppie

I guess so. LOL!

On April 15, 1969 a VQ-1 EC-121M (Buno 136749) with 31 souls on board was shot down by a North Korean Mig off the coast of North Korea.
All 31 members pf the crew were killed.

The EC-121 was the predecessor to the EP-3B and EP-3E Aircraft

The P8 was just going to pick up the Big Guy’s 10%. Nothing to see here.

I plopped my ass on a big balloon while bum naked. My bum paid full responsibility.

As we all know, this happens routinely.

Probably due to the trauma of 9/11 we’ve collectively forgotten that a P3 was forced down and its crew detained and interrogated under GW Bush back in April 2001.

We surveil them, they surveil us. We want them to know we are watching, and sometimes it is useful to let them know how much we can see…

Don’t suppose the “U.S. Navy” would care to disclose the latitude and longitude of the intercept?

The “South China Sea” is a huge area of ocean.

Berliner

Probably Paracel Islands, located to the South East of China’s Hainan Island and east of the former North Vietnam. Hainan Island itself has a recently discovered/ suspicious “balloon facility”.

Another possibility is the Spratly Islands to the south but close to the Philippine’s Palawan Island, east of Hoh Chi Minh city (aka Saigon) but are closer to the Philippines. The Spratly’s has a Big chicom airfield on Subi Reef.

China claims the South China Sea from the north coast of Brunei, the west coast of Philippines, and east coast of Vietnam as all belonging to China. Their excuse, I assume, is maps show this area as the “South China Sea”.

Chicom “territorial waters,” they feel…

AKA the “Nine Dash Line”.

There is a bigger PRC facility on Fiery Cross Reef, as well as another one on Mischief Reef. Don’t know of others off the top of my head.

Continue flights, get even clser to them, with fighter escort fully armed. Invite them to play.

Strangely a number of nuke field Air Force commanders were fired today due to loss of confidence. Why can’t we fire FJB for the same reason? I don’t anyone in his ability to lead.

I’d say one can’t lose what one never had.
Or,
I had every confidence in Joe’s much vaunted ability to fuck things up.

We talk tough but do nothing. Look the Chinese are so entwined in not only our economy but in our daily lives. We allowed ourselves to be put in a position of complete reliance on these scumbags, we buy their products, even our products contain parts made in China. Most of our pharmaceuticals are made there, every day you rely on and interact with something from China. My favorite lie we tell ourselves is that our technology is superior to theirs. Every bit of consumer technology used around the globe either wholly or partially comes from China. If you don’t think they have stolen, developed, or improved on military technology you are in denial. Unless we actually start making things here again and are willing to pay more for domestic products they will continue to make us their bitch. And make no mistake we are dependent upon them for our modern spoiled lifestyle and they know it. They also know we’ll bitch and threaten but still finance their ambitions to control and dominate us.

Av8or33

We sold our soul for cheap shit.

We did it with the Japan and Taiwan and Hong Kong first.

But they didn’t hate us. And didn’t have a long term goal of being the world’s dominant country. Even at the height of our trade with Japan, Taiwan, etc we were not completely dependent upon them in so many ways. I said years ago that we were buying the bullets they will eventually shoot at our kids. If China invades Taiwan we will cry, howl, bitch and moan but do nothing more than a little theater, we are far too dependent upon them. If they don’t take Taiwan it will simply be a business decision. Does anyone here really think a war in China’s backyard is winnable? Is our navy capable of dominating theirs and if so can we sustain it for the long haul? Their manufacturing capacity and shear mass and population size is immense. We are becoming about as relavent as France or Britain and it’s our own fault. They are the world factory, our modern life is dependent on them, not to mention they also own a huge chunk of our debt.

Wonder how many idiots are replying angrily to this on an iPhone without a hint of irony?

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

That new built atoll/island doesn’t look to be very high above sea level.
I know that people that occupy land take a very dim view of bombing their territory.
BUT…..
What if we were to release (oops! our bad!) a large enough bomb just off that artificial turf, and the ensuing wave swamps the place?
Or we run a naval convoy of large ships by the place at flank speed……
