Teen charged after woman shot in Frayser carjacking

by: David Royer

UPDATE: Police said Thursday that a 16-year old had been arrested in this case and charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Attempted Carjacking, Employment of a Firearm During the commission of a Dangerous Felony (2X), and Handgun Possession Prohibited.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A woman in a Mercedes fired back at a suspect on a bicycle who shot her during an attempted carjacking in Frayser on Tuesday, Memphis Police say.

It happened around 7 p.m. at the Frayser Village shopping center at 2580 Frayser Boulevard at Range Line Road.

Police say the victim was getting in her car when a male with a backpack and a handgun rode up on a bike.

Video shows him waiting outside a Subway restaurant until the victim walked out, police said. Witnesses said he tried to force the woman to give him her car keys at gunpoint.

Police say the suspect fired multiple shots at the woman, hitting her. The victim took cover behind the car and returned fire at the suspect as he ran away, and she may have struck him.

The woman was later taken to Regional One in critical condition.

The suspect fled toward the Ridgecrest Apartments next door to the shopping center.

In a separate police report, the victim is listed as a security guard at the Ridgecrest Apartments. A witness described the suspect as a teenager, perhaps 14 or 15 years old. Security at the apartments told police he often rode his bike through the complex, and he allegedly had several run-ins with the security guard.

A witness told WREG the security guard was wearing her regular clothes, and the suspect probably thought he could instigate something with her.

This incident was one of at least three shootings in Frayser on Tuesday night, in addition to two others in South Memphis and Whitehaven during a deadly and violent night in the city.

According to the Memphis Public Safety website, there have been 10 homicides in the Frayser community so far this year. Crime analytics show 224 violent crimes were recorded in Frayser since January.

Memphis is another garden-spot I have no plans to revisit. Hope the victim recovers quickly from her injuries.

Man in critical condition after being shot multiple times on Greenway Place

By Rachael Thomas
SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – Emergency crews responded to a shooting in Shreveport Thursday afternoon.

According to Caddo Parish 911 dispatch records, it happened around 4 p.m. on the 3800 block of Greenway Place between Akard and Fern avenues. That’s just off Pierre Bayou near the golf course.

Shreveport Police officials say a man in his 30s was shot multiple times. He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sometime after 5 p.m., KSLA was told he was alert and conscious.

Police also say the suspected shooter was detained for questioning.

Officials on scene say the ex-boyfriend showed up at the house, and got into an argument with the woman’s current boyfriend. SPD says both men exchanged gunfire, and the ex-boyfriend was struck.

Both men have been identified and detained. Arrests are expected once appropriate charges have been determined.

Ex-boyfriend/babydaddy picked a bad time to visit- try calling ahead to avoid getting shot. Thanks, Gun Bunny.

BZ Ms Thang! Tho wounded you fought back and your grazing fire reminded this yute that he had pressing business elsewhere. We had been told that removing the graves and Monument of Bedford Forrest and his wife was going to fix all of the problems in Memphis. I guess not, huh.

George Smith Patton approves today’s Gun Pr0n. Cue up Jeff LPH-3’s story on his anger on a hasty action that gave him an “M-1 Thumb”.

Every time the Garand picture is on the top of one of our posts, I mention my infamous M-1 thumb for you guys and Gals to read. Only had it one time and that was enough.

Graybeard

Some folks learn by observation,
some by instruction,
and some have to have their thumbs smashed in the Garand to learn the lesson.

Just to point out – I never got a case of Garand thumb.

Tallywhagger

Mmm, good, Ogg LIKE M1 Garand.

Thanks for the M-1 do not do this tip Ed. Back in the day, it was called the M-1 Thumb as Gunners Mate Smitty told me as my thumb was as red as a beet. Didn;t happen when I fired the WW2 smalls arms off the fantail for Qualification and Qualifining while up in Camp Smith NYS while in inactive Navy Reserve after seperation. My hand must have been on the week side while holding the operating rod back while pushing the E-clip follower down. Great what not to do training flick. Thanks again Ed. Brought back the memory. Ranger 789 mentioned that he learned about what I went through while in ROTC.

Tallywhagger

Did you lose your thumb nail?

rgr769

Yes, I only had it happen once. I spent three years on the drill team in ROTC and we drilled every weekday with M-1’s, so I became rather proficient at not experiencing it again. We also use the correct 10-inch bayonets, but they were chrome plated.

Graybeard

Huh, they didn’t give us the bayonets when I was on the drill team.

They may have had reasons, though..

rgr769

I provide the following info for our squids, chairforce and civilian readers:
The bayonet for the M-1 Rifle is not the bayonet depicted in the photo above. That bayonet was the Model 1905 U.S. bayonet designed for the Model 1903 Springfield Rifle. The standard bayonet for the M-1 rifle had a 10-inch blade. Although, there are some early 16-inch bladed ones that will fit the M-1.
