The LA Times is using this special moment to point out the disturbing rise in the city’s deputy-involved shootings this year. Wonder what could possibly cause such a thing?
Man being kicked out of Texas bar shot in chest after tasing off-duty officer with own weapon
Police have not identified suspect taken to hospital in critical condition
By Pilar Arias | Fox News
An off-duty police officer working security in Texas shot a man who managed to take his stun gun and tase him as he was being escorted out of a bar and restaurant.San Antonio police say they responded to a Twin Peaks off Southwest Loop 410 just late Saturday night regarding a shooting in progress.
When they arrived, they learned that restaurant staff asked a gentleman to leave after a disturbance took place.
When the man refused to leave, an off-duty Somerset police officer working security escorted him out for “being intoxicated and belligerent,” FOX 29 reports.
Police say the man managed to grab the officer’s taser and tase him while resisting. The off-duty officer then shot the man, striking him in the chest.

Armed civilian who shot at armed intruder on military base is spouse of highest-ranking Air Force NCO
Rahn Bass is a retired Army Ranger and husband to Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force JoAnne Bass.
“We appreciate the outpouring of support we received after this incident,” Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force JoAnne Bass said in a press release. “I can confirm that my husband, Rahn, was involved and is safe, thanks to the quick response and professionalism of our Security Forces Airmen.”
Initial reports only noted that the intruder had been fired on by a base resident, but it wasn’t until later in the week that Rahn Bass, a retired Army first sergeant, was identified as the resident. The intruder remains unidentified.
Rahn Bass shot at the intruder, which stalled him until base security and law enforcement apprehended the man.
“A resident discharged a firearm, security forces arrived on scene to apprehend the intruder and law enforcement is investigating the incident,” Air Force Joint Base Andrews said in an emailed statement to Fox News Digital. “No injuries nor property damage reported.”

I guess Mr Intoxicated and Belligerent in Texas FAFO. May his wound fester and hurt like a bitch even as he heals.
Once again, class; knife, gunfight, no-no.
Mr Palmdale receives an “F” for the course.
The more nutjobs that the popo take out, that’s one less that society has to contend with. Still wondering when we can pass some common sense “edged weapons” control laws.
Instant asshole, just add alcohol. See how he likes “toilet wine”.
Even Retired Rangers Lead The Way.
Our tyrants aren’t even trying to make a secret of their tyranny.
The CZ starts out as a Josh Randall Mare’s Leg and ends up as a Lucas McCain Long Gun. Wonder if it can float?
I’m hoping that Mr. Rahn Bass intentionally missed hitting the intruder.
Of course I’m not sure of the range to target or visibility and motion of same, so it could be an honest miss, or a flesh wound in the perp that made him hang around longer.
Not a bad score today. Now if the journalists in LA could just buy a clue…
Prima facia evidence of how ineffective a taser can be. Cop got tased and was still able to shoot the bad guy in the chest.
“But, but but…according to Hollywood, when you tase someone they instantly drop to the floor, unconscious and stay that way for anywhere from several minutes to several hours…so why do cops need guns?”
I wonder if the taser had conductivity issues due to the LEOs body armor?
He was moonlighting off duty so he may not have been wearing body armor. Probably was, but not guaranteed. A coat, heavy clothes or even loose fitting clothes can cause a taser to be ineffective if they prevent the electrodes from making good contact.
Don’t know about Texas but in Washington state, off-duty/in-uniform Sheriff deputies working in our local Home Depot wear body armor.
This past summer one even followed me when I picked up a flatbed cart from the lumber section to the paint section pick up a 5 gallon bucket of latex paint and then all the way to the self checkout.
I almost asked him if he was going to help me load it in my Prius but he walked off. I waved goodbye to him when I returned the empty flatbed cart back inside where I got it.
Yes I see that a lot too in supermarkets and retail stores, not so much as bouncers in bars. In my experience, a lot of police departments frown on that kind of after hours employment so doing it in uniform isn’t as common.
This is all speculation, of course, so he may well have been in uniform, I don’t know, I’m just saying that even when someone’s not wearing body armor, tasers aren’t magic wands that unfailingly knock people out with no muss and no fuss. Real life isn’t anything like Hollywood.

The only problem that I have with the Bass/AFB (admittedly righteous) shoot is that (to me) it illustrates the “different spanks for different ranks”.
E8 (ret) Rahn Bass is apparently allowed to have a personal gun in his quarters on base, but I’ll bet you dollars to doughnuts that if a lower enlisted were to do the same thing, that person would IMMEDIATELY (not “investigating the incident”) be up on all kinds of charges that I can’t EVEN guess at.
I kept my POWs on my quarters at Ft. Bliss decades ago. Only folks who had to put theirs in an arms room were BEQ residents. Dunno about BOQ.
