Ross: King County court brings self defense to new level in downtown-shooting judgment

Yesterday in King County Superior Court, a jury found Marquise Tolbert not guilty of murder. According to the Seattle Times, he was so relieved he burst into tears and embraced his defense lawyers.

When I read the story, I, too, felt like bursting into tears, but for a different reason.

Here’s what happened: In January 2020, Tolbert and a friend – packing guns – had gone to Seattle’s most notorious intersection – 3rd and Pine – to target a rival gang member.

This guy also had a gun and threatened them with it. So Tolbert and Tolliver decided to run.

And as their pursuer fired at them, they fired back over their shoulders.

Tolbert fired 10 rounds; his friend fired nine. Unfortunately, there were also a lot of other people downtown. And during the course of that six-second gunbattle – six bystanders were shot by Tolbert and Tolliver. A woman in a wheelchair was shot three times in the abdomen. She went through 15 surgeries and now wears a colostomy bag. A 9-year-old walking with his family had his femur fractured. And Tanya Jackson, age 50, who had been crossing Third Avenue, collapsed outside the McDonald’s, and died from a gunshot wound.

And yesterday, the jury decided that, because Tolbert was firing in self-defense, he was not criminally responsible for the death of the woman crossing the street, or any of the other injuries.

Concealed carry license holder who shot at cousin’s attackers speaks out

by: Brónagh Tumulty
A family member who opened fire toward shooters who wounded his 17-year-old cousin on the city’s Lower West Side provided a clearer picture of the events that led up to the attack.

The 21-year-old man, who did not wish to be identified, said he and his family were celebrating a relative’s birthday Tuesday night along the 1800 block of W. 21st Place.

“It was my grandmother’s birthday,” he said.

Some of the relatives had gone to the alley at the back of the house to check out another cousin’s new car.

Then the family heard what they thought were firecrackers.

“I see my cousin’s face turn weird and I look to the right and see two gunmen at the end of the alley,” he said.

The family member said bullets started hurling toward them.

“We start hearing [whizzing sound] and then the light post starting making all these weird noises, so we’re like, ‘oh, this is serious,’” the man said.

The man, a concealed carry license holder, pulled out his gun.

“I started shooting,” he said. “I stood my ground. I didn’t even move. I stood my ground to defend my family.”

Another day in Lightfoot’s Chiraq.

It is true that liberty is precious; so precious that it must be carefully rationed.

“…the jury decided that, because Tolbert was firing in self-defense, he was not criminally responsible for the death of the woman crossing the street, or any of the other injuries.”

Un-fucking-believable. Leave it to a left-coast jury of retards to come up with a bullshit acquittal like this.

Could be some appeal process available. Despite appearances and past experience, AOC truly is not the stupidest person allowed in public places.

Tolbert, no doubt, was tried by a “jury of his peers.”

“He was facing one charge of murder and six counts of assault. “He [Tolbert] was the third person to shoot and only shot because he had to, because he was being shot at,” Defense Attorney Emily Gasue said, “He’s devastated there are people that got hurt.”

Tolbert pleaded guilty to his remaining charge of unlawful possession of a firearm in court Friday morning.

Prosecutors asked for the longest possible sentence on that charge of 48 months, saying Tolbert is a convicted felon who knew he wasn’t supposed to have a gun after being sentenced on robbery, eluding and possession of stolen vehicle charges in 2019. Defense attorneys for Tolbert argued he should get a lower sentence.”
He’s looking at time served.

Seattle gunna Seattle.

To hell with felons possessing guns being illegal. To hell with them being there to kill a man in the first place. To hell with the gang association. Oh, you shot blindly and hit 6 bystanders after all that? Nope, doesn’t matter.

Absurdity abounds. Self-defense requires you to have not gone looking to start a fight in the first place, for starters. Far be it from the cesspit that is Seattle to comprehend something as basic as that.

Gee Whiz…We thought that only happened in cartoons…

Used the lid?
Not the pan?
Ex-PH2 may have something to say about that.

If we don’t get the Demon-rats outta power soon, things are gonna go past the point of no return.

I see that the FGS have been replaced by the Stupid People of The Week, despite the thread title.
