Biden wants filibuster exception for federal abortion law

Joe Biden feels that the Supreme Court decision, overturning Roe v Wade, was “outrageous”. He called for Congress to pass a bill codifying Roe v Wade, implementing an exception from the filibuster if necessary. Getting this filibuster exception wish; however, may face noncooperation from Senator Joe Manchin and Senator Kyrsten Sinema, Democrats.

From Fox News:

“The foremost thing we should do is make it clear how outrageous this decision was,” Biden said. “I believe we have to codify Roe v. Wade in the law, and the way to do that is to make sure that Congress votes to do that.”

“And if the filibuster gets in the way, it’s like voting rights, we should require an exception to the filibuster for this action,” he continued.

Biden had previously called on Congress to codify Roe following SCOTUS’ Friday ruling, but he had not called for ending the filibuster. Biden has only previously called for the measure during his effort to pass voting reforms, which did not succeed.

The filibuster allows the minority party in the senate to require a 60-vote majority to pass any legislation through the body. The Senate is currently split 50-50 between Republicans and Democrats.

Democratic Sens. Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona have opposed efforts to throw out the filibuster throughout Biden’s administration. Manchin has reiterated his support for the rule even after the end of Roe.

Fox News has the article here.

Another effort by the despots to gain more control over We, The People. Demonrats only want the filibuster for when THEY need the filibuster.

Packing the Supreme Court, eliminating the filibuster, ignoring Federal Law on borders and a number of other things. Rotten to the core these are…

Some “woke” folk question their oaths to serve now that Roe vs. Wade is overturned:

Progressives always wanted their “-ism” to be more important than country. Commies, y’all.

Supporting a weak argument by changing the rules to lower the threshold for success.

Jeff

Have not learned when the filibuster was removed for judges to be confirmed. What is to stop the next republican congress and president to overturn the law they codify.

The Senate is not representing its States. It seems to be infatuated with joining the death-cult that is democrazy.

And the so-called Democrats are upset that a minority of people in a majority of States control this ‘august’ body now? Wait until these fewer in number, harder in resolve people throw off the yoke of political malfeasance by centralized elections and keep that upper chamber American, away from their subversions of Our Ideals.

I can hear the ReeeEEEEEEeeeeing now…

Just finished the book again. Excellent and a bit prophetic.

i think, though, that Heinlein would spin in his grave if he saw the movie. Donโ€™t get me wrong. I loved the movie, but the only thing it shares with the book is the title.

David

A better Heinlein reference may be to “The Moon is a Harsh Mistress” when the Professor makes suggestions for adding new laws. Paraphrased, a new law should require a 2/3 majority to enact, because if 1/3 are against it, it should not be come law. And if an existing law comes up for repeal, a simple majority should vote it out, since if half the people oppose it, it needs to go. One of his most underrated books. He personally said out of Stranger, Moon/Mistress, and Starship Troopers: he felt if someone liked and understood all three, RAH had succeeded. If someone got two out of the 3, they w.ere at least salvageable. One or none out of three, hopeless.

Doesn’t sound like the gibbering geriatric is going to get his wish.

Sometimes we think Ole Brandon/Joey Boy has forgotten that there IS a Higher Power…

(Higher Power is not Jill, Sandy Cortez or BHO…)…

We The People.

NDHoosier

That Higher Power is also not Xi Jinping or George Soros.

rgr769

Maybe not, but they have the moola to fund the grift.

May God Almighty break the bow of the wicked, and strike them with madness and pain. May they lament and wail, and none pity them.

Seriously, for his sake, I hope PINO Joe finds redemption and forgiveness. But judging by his fruits, it seems he has not yet done so.

The Stranger

That requires true repentance, which comes from humility. This clown is arrogant with very little to be arrogant about. On his death bed, the following quote from Kevin Hart will be particularly apropos, โ€œYou gonna learn today, you gonna learn today.โ€ Unfortunately for him, itโ€™ll be too late. Hopefully he gets to see what is awaiting him in the afterlife during his last moments of consciousness.

Sorry, NOT sorry, Brother Graybeard, I gots to go with Pappy, The Stranger on this, corn patch and apple cake notwithstanding. I’ll leave that whole forgiveness/redemption thing to the Former Jewish Carpenter. Imma gonna go Old School/Old Testament and lean toward that Vengence is Mine and wouldn’t mind being the Mysterious Way that His Wonders are beheld. prezzy sniffy creepy, his ilk, his handlers, and the rest of the murderous trash from Hell deserve every torment of the Hottest Fires of Hell…for all eternity. My knowing, in my mind, that is their fate is one thing that gives me some Peace on this Earth. And somehow, I don’t believe that the Former Jewish Carpenter is going to be in a forgiving/redeming mood. After all, He did say “Suffer the little children to come unto me.”

MustangCryppie

No.

How come the demoRats/libs talk about guns killing children but not abortions killing children.

So, Joe Biden wants to do away with the filibuster, but only in cases where he can’t get 60 votes? Do we have that right?

UpNorth

Why, yes, yes, you do. That’s exactly what the left wants, not just Pedo Joe.

Tallywhagger

The Delaware Doosh has always wanted to be relevant, to someone, or something. There is one consistent thread that has permeated his entire existence. Joe is an asshole.

People who know him, like him or hate him, can agree on one immutable fact: Joe Biden is an unparalleled jackass.

Psalm 109–Not to be confused with Jethro Tull

And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. 6Set thou a wicked man over him: and let Satan stand at his right hand. 7When he shall be judged, let him be condemned: and let his prayer become sin. 8Let his days be few; and let another take his office. 9Let his children be fatherless, and his wife a widow. 10Let his children be continually vagabonds, and beg: let them seek their bread also out of their desolate places. 11Let the extortioner catch all that he hath; and let the strangers spoil his labour.

The Stranger

Yeah, Iโ€™d like to spoil his labor, alright. ๐Ÿคฃ

And as to (see what Hack did there?) Democrats wanting to increase the seats on The Supreme Court, fine, on the condition that any additional Justices will not be selected and sworn until two Presidential elections have taken place. That will ensure that the decision was not made in haste.
