North Carolina woman’s death was ‘heart-wrenching’ accident during prank, DA says

A North Carolina woman’s death in October was a “tragic and heart-wrenching” accident that happened during an “ill-fated” prank, according to the district attorney.

Rachel Olivia Buchanan, 19, was shot and killed on Oct. 20, 2021, just outside the city limits of Hendersonville, North Carolina by two men, one being her boyfriend, according to District Attorney Andrew Murray.

Murray said Buchanan, her boyfriend and another couple were hanging out at one of the couple’s homes.

He said the two men left the home to go back down the street to get a phone charger at the other couple’s home, according to Murray.

The men decided to go together, while armed with guns, due to the legend of a black panther living in the area and being on the prowl, Murray said.

“There is no doubt that several alleged black panther sightings had the Conservatives Lane resident on edge for their safety and wellbeing,” Murray said in a news release.

While the men were gone, Murray said the women, including Buchanan, “devised an ill-fated plan to play a prank on their respective boyfriend and fiancée by secreting themselves outside the house armed with a dozen expired eggs to throw at them.”

Murray said the women positioned themselves approximately 15 feet down an embankment.

Murray said one of the women passed some gas which caused both ladies to “utter suppressed laughs.”

According to Murray, the men heard what they perceived as a growl and stick-breaking down the hill.

He said they then saw a dark figure and perceived the figure to be a threat.

Murray said both men proceeded to fire multiple rounds.

Buchanan was found laying on the ground and unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds, Murray said.

Murray said it was determined that Buchanan was hit by three projectiles.

“I am convinced that the shooting and killing of Rachel Olivia Buchanan was a tragic and heart-wrenching accident,” Murray said in a statement. “No criminal laws were violated by either participant in this shooting.”

Murray also mentioned in the release that everyone involved was tested and was negative for any impairing substances in their bloodstream.

Georgia woman had her 3 children in car when shooting 17-year-old in face during road rage incident: police

A Georgia woman who shot a 17-year-old in the face during a road rage incident over the weekend had her three children in the car with her at the time of the shooting, authorities said.

Brittney Griffith, 30, turned herself in to police around 11 p.m. Sunday, hours after the shooting on I-20, Douglasville police said.

After an apparent road rage incident occurred around 4:40 p.m., police said Griffith began following the victim’s vehicle eastbound on I-20 after, pulled up alongside it and fired at least one shot.

Griffith shot a 17-year-old who was in the front passenger seat of the vehicle, according to authorities. The teen was rushed to a hospital for treatment and was last reported to be in stable condition.

After the shooting, police said Griffith exited at Chapel Hill Road and fled in an unknown direction.

Detectives said they later learned that Griffith’s three children, ages 4 to 9, were in the vehicle with her at the time of the incident.

Before Griffith fled, a passenger in the victim’s vehicle was able to take a photo of the suspect and share it online. Police said that shortly after the photo was shared, the public helped identify the suspect.

Griffith was charged with four counts of aggravated assault, three counts of cruelty to children, and one count of possession of a firearm during commission of a felony.

A judge denied bond for Griffith on Monday.

Canine training facility manager killed 10 dogs and abused others: Police

Naugatuck police have arrested three people in connection with animal abuse they said took place at the canine training facility owned by a New Canaan police officer who was arrested last week.

Naugatuck police launched a separate investigation into Black Rock Canines, a canine training facility located at 100 Hunters Mountain Road in Naugatuck, after allegations of abuse, threats, and failure to store and maintain explosive materials at the facility.

New Canaan police officer David Rivera was arrested Thursday on an arrest warrant alleging he used explosives in his business, which trains working dogs for various organizations. He was arraigned in Bridgeport Superior Court on Friday.

On Tuesday, Naugatuck Police Chief Colin McAllister announced that through their investigation, they determined that at least 10 dogs were killed by firearms and buried on the site and numerous other dogs of various ages and breeds were abused.

Police also said employees who were not trained to handle such items, moved and stored explosives between the business and other facilities in town.

Daniel Luna, 38, the general manager of the facility, is alleged to have abused numerous dogs and puppies during his employment.

“Luna’s abuse and mistreatment of these animals included shooting the dogs which were determined to no longer be viable for the business,” said McAllister.

Luna’s lack of adequate care led to the death of puppies at the facility as well, he said.

Police said the remains of four dogs were recovered on site.

Police said witnesses revealed that military-grade high explosives were being improperly stored at the facility. Rivera is said to have told employees a number of times to take the explosives to the Naugatuck Events Center for training purposes inside the building while other people were taking part in activities in the building. Police said the employees were not trained or permitted for handling explosives.

An 8-month-old died in a hot car after her father’s arrest, Georgia police say

The father of an 8-month-old girl who died after she was left inside of a hot car has been charged with second-degree murder, Georgia Bureau of Investigation officials said during a news conference on Wednesday.

Davied Japez McCorry Whatley, 20, was taken into custody Wednesday morning in connection with the child’s death, police said.

Whatley is accused of leaving his daughter inside his vehicle for several hours on Tuesday afternoon. According to Snellville Police, Whatley arrived at the police department just after 2 p.m. to retrieve his firearm from the property custodian when officers learned he had an outstanding probation charge. He was taken into custody and transported to the Gwinnett County jail. He bonded out on the unrelated charge Tuesday evening, according to authorities.

Investigators said at no time did Whatley inform them that a child was inside the vehicle.

The entire interaction with Whatley was recorded on body camera, investigators said.

During the news conference, police said at some point after his arrest the suspect contacted the child’s grandmother who then went to the car and found the child inside the suspect’s vehicle.

The grandmother took the child to an area emergency room where she was pronounced deceased.

Whatley is expected to be transported back to the Gwinnett County jail on the second-degree murder charge Wednesday afternoon, authorities said.

CNN was unable to determine at this time if Whatley has an attorney.

Snellville is located in metro Atlanta. The area saw a high temperature of 86 °F Tuesday, according to National Weather Service data.

Naked tree-hugger is forced to make public apology and is deported from Bali after image of her draped across 700-year-old sacred plant went viral

A Russian tourist who begged forgiveness after offending furious locals by posing naked on a 700-year-old sacred tree in Bali will be deported, immigration officials said.

Alina Fazleeva, who has thousands of followers on Instagram, did naked yoga poses on a centuries-old weeping paperbark tree inside Babakan temple grounds in Tabanan regency in 2019.

The picture, which was taken by her husband Andrey Fazleev, was uploaded to Instagram and went viral, irking Balinese communities.

Police declined to charge her with a crime but turned her case over to immigration officers who took a dim view of someone Buddhist-Hindu devotees have branded a ‘trashy tourist’.

Fazleeva boasted on social media about her nude photoshoot, saying she ‘heard her ancestors’ voices’ while she was hugging the bark and being ‘part of an endless chain’.

The self-proclaimed yogi’s post was recently discovered by a furious local and reported to the police.

Locals believe mountains, trees and other natural features to be holy in Balinese Hindu culture, as they are thought to be the homes of the gods.

As police investigated the incident, Fazleeva went to the station ‘to cooperate’ – after first returning to the tree to ‘ask its forgiveness’.

‘Both of them are proven to have carried out activities that endanger public order and do not respect the local norms,’ Bali immigration chief Jamaruli Manihuruk told reporters Friday.

‘So, they will be sanctioned with deportation.’

The husband and wife will be banned from Indonesia for at least six months, and also had to participate in a cleansing ceremony at the sacred area in accordance with local belief, he added.

But some locals wondered whether she violated draconian Indonesian pornography laws, which warrant up to 15 years imprisonment and a 2 billion rupiah fine (£110,528).

Fazleeva apologised on her Instagram account in English and Bahasa Indonesia, acknowledging that she ‘made a big mistake’.

‘There are a lot of sacred places in Bali and not all of them have information signs about it, as in my case,’ she said.

‘And, it is very important to treat these places and traditions with respect’.

Tabanan Police Chief Ranefli Dian Sandra said Fazleeva came to the station on May 4 where they questioned her and turned the case over to immigration officers.

Police Chief Ranefli added that the pictures were apparently old and around 2019 before the pandemic.

He said: ‘We have also sent a team to investigate. The pictures and videos appeared to have been captured around 2019 before the pandemic.

The area had been trimmed off now of bushes. Before, there were tall grasses in the area and was difficult to reach.’

The guy in the first story should be charged with reckless endangerment. One of the prime rules of firearms: know what the hell you’re shooting at!

USAFRetired

Agreed that was negligence not an accident,

jeff LPH 3 63-66

I remember years ago about some guy in upstate NY shot his hunting partner during deer season and a home owner up their was shot while hanging up clothes on her clothseline. The above mentioned A Hole hunters were from down state NY. Their were other numerious shootings but these two I remember. I don’t call them accidents since one has to know what he/she is shooting at like MustangCryppie mentioned above.

Planet Ord

A turkey hunter in Georgia shot shot and killed a game warden that was walking down a trail once. Similar situation, but no ability to claim that he may have been in danger. I believe he was charged. Geez, know what you are shooting at. That’s basics.

There is special place in hell for people who have a cash bar at a wedding and leave children/animals to die in a hot car. He was only worried about his own ass when the cops had him in custody. Eff that guy with long, hot poker

Thunderstixx

I’m certain that something like that will eventually be proffered to the offending puke…

STSC(SW/SS)

Two young men itching to use their weapons on something went looking for trouble and unfortunately the found it.

Animal abusers, assholes.

Anger and firearms do not mix as the young mother will find out after a long stretch in prison.

Hope young Whatley gets regular visits from Thor and Mr. Tiny while in the slam.

From the pics with the articles, looks like the tree was the entity that got “lucky”. Rest of them are idiots and trash. As a side note, the entire Metro Atlanta Area needs a revisit from ‘Cump Sherman and his boys. He could make Georgia “howl” again…with glee this time.

Hack Stone

Did they specify which bushes were trimmed?

I’m waiting to see her nude “downward dog” pose.

For the young lady with the desire to shed her clothes and hug things, I have several trees on the property that could use hugs!
