Judge says SEALs can’t train in WA parks because it’s “creepy”

| April 5, 2022

Awhile back the Washington State Parks and Recreations Commission voted 4-3 to allow US Navy SEALs to use state parks for covert operations training. By the very nature of the training, they would never be seen or heard from by any civilian visitors to the parks, nor would they be leaving behind any trace.

Despite this, a Washington State judge in Thurston County has found that the Commission’s decision was illegal for a couple of reasons, but he boils it down to that he thinks it’s “creepy.” Apparently that’s now a legal definition.

Navy Times has the story;

A judge has ruled that the Navy SEALs won’t be able to use Washington State Parks as training grounds.

In January 2021, the Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission voted 4-3 to approve the Navy’s proposal to use up to 28 parks for training purposes for the elite units, where SEALs would emerge from the water under the cover of darkness and disappear into the environment.

The Northwest News Network reports the decision rankled many recreationalists, who said during public comments they would avoid these areas for fear that SEALs would watch them without the knowledge or consent of visitors.

On Friday, Thurston County Superior Court Judge James Dixon said the commission’s decision was illegal and outside its purview, which includes the protection and enhancement of parks.

In addition, Dixon ruled the commission violated the State Environmental Policy Act by not considering fully how the trainings could deter visitors.

Opponents of the decision often said the presence of out-of-sight SEAL trainees would incite a “creepiness factor,” removing a sense of calm often found in nature.

Dixon said he couldn’t come up with a better legal term than that.

“It is creepy,” he said.

In earlier public hearings, Navy officials said Washington’s natural landscapes provide critical cold water training for SEALs. Washington’s coastlines and currents pose challenges to SEAL trainees that are difficult to find elsewhere, said Warrant Officer Esteban Alvarado at a Nov. 19, 2020, public meeting, calling the region a critical component in training exercises.

The judge’s decision could be appealed.

Ooh, da cweepy Miwitawy Guys could hurt someone’s feewings, says the Judge and Commission…

Cummins

Is “creepiness” a ‘feeling’ or a ‘law’?
Judges are supposed to enforce LAWS, not FEELINGS.
This would be an easy win.

USMC Steve

Appeal it just to piss off the fool judge. And it would.

Joe biden creepy out hunter biden creepy? Just trying to understand.

Can be just saw off the West Coast and let it sink. Would anybody miss it? The problems that plague the rest of the country are exported from LA, SF, PDX, and SEA/TAC. Just put the proverbial bullet in them and end it. Seriously, what would you miss? Hollywood? Big Tech? Antifa? Acid like coffee? What?

Of all the “creepy” stuff that goes on in the judicial system, one would think that SEAL training wouldn’t even warrant the word.

Wow, so the Parks and Recreation Board is not responsible for the management of the Parks…this does not sound like it will stand up very well on appeal.

If the SEALs decided to ignore the judge’s decision and have training exercises in the parks anyway, who would know?

Is this any different then the creepy judge making a creepy decision based upon creepy feewings instead of law?

Iam not surprised. It IS washington state. That place has gone flakey years ago and they are not likely to feel comfortable with real men in the area. They would make the nebbish who make up the majority of the coastal areas insecure. We can’t have their weaknesses made obvious to the public now can we.

Oh noes. The scawy sekrit squiwwel man’s awe twaining in our pawks! It’s so cweepy!

My question is, how many of these clowns are in said parks in the middle of the night? I’m a night owl. I work swing shift. The parks here in SE WA are generally closed at night, except for sites with campgrounds.

You wouldn’t know they’re there, and they ain’t watching you anyway, beyond making sure you don’t notice them.

Western WA has a severe shortage of people who understand how the military works these days, in addition to their slew of other asinine issues. I’m not surprised the judge ruled on his feelings in the least.

Eww, military people… freaky Leftcoast.

Welp, hizz dizhonor da judge is just following the exclusion of certain persons laws pushed by the namesake of Thurston County, Kongress Kritter Samuel R. Thurston. A history of not wanting folks different from them to be there.

George Washington weeps.

Roh-Dog

Do it anyway. You’re fking SEALs, who’ll fking stop you? A group of angry librarians? Finger-wagging koolaid hairs with problem glasses and ‘hate has no home here’ in their front lawns gonna get their Priuses on the beach and run you over?

Maybe anQueefa will show up and you can have a two way rifle range day. Jus’sayin.

If they won’t be seen or heard as the article says, they should just do it anyway.

See if that hack judge can catch them.

Appointed by a Dem governor, re-ellected after running unopposed. Looks like Thurston county is around Olympia just south of Seattle and Tacoma. Any bets on it being moonbeam territory? Thought not.

Yet another example of why I won’t retire back home to WA. My home, Whidbey Island, figures prominently in these articles. It wasn’t like this when I grew up there. Although they’ve always been trying to drive the navy out, it’s gotten way worse. You should have seen them squeal during the early BRAC when, faced with actually losing all the federal dollars, it was suddenly “we love our navy!” I’ve got six acres for sale on Whidbey Island.

RGR 4-78

If those 6 acers have coastline, sell it to the U.S. Navy for the SEALs to use for training.

President Elect Toxic Deplorable Racist SAH Neande

Better yet, lease it to the SEALs for $1.00 per year. Just to piss off the Libtards.
It’s my land. I gave them permission to be there. Buzz off, Blue Hair.”

I think the noise and “scary “ issue is being used against the Growler training flights. Be a shame to relocate VAQ training to Florida or Texas.

Skivvy Stacker

I don’t think of SEALs as “creepy” so much as “weird”.
How many other covert operators do you know that bring their Ray-Bans and surf boards on missions with them?

I bet he doesn’t even know what the defintion of “creepy” is.

Shut down all Navy and Army operations in Puget Sound. See how creepy billions of dollars floating away feels like.

USMC Steve

Just do it anyway and make sure they are not seen. They know how to do that.
