By Margaret Kates
A man was killed early Sunday morning in a shooting in Tuscaloosa, police said.

The Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit responded to reports of a shooting at The Links at Tuscaloosa apartment complex around 3 a.m. Sunday.

“During the investigation,” said Capt. Marty Sellers, “evidence showed that the shooting may be in self defense.”

No arrests have been made, Sellers told the press, though the investigation is ongoing.

11 injured, 1 killed after downtown Myrtle Beach shooting. Police fired at shooter

One person has died and 11 people injured in an overnight shooting that occurred along North Ocean Boulevard.

A person fired a weapon and was then shot by a police officer, bystander Michael Howard told The Sun News. This occurred at about 11:50 p.m. on April 26, according to Myrtle Beach Police.

That person, Jerrius Davis, 18, of Bennettsville, was shot and killed at 913 N. Ocean Blvd., said Horry County Chief Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard in a release.

The officer was not hurt during the incident. What caused the shooting remains unknown.

A North Carolina resident, Howard was on vacation with his family. He was on the Boulevard with his family at about 10:30 p.m. when he heard someone yell “gun.” People began to “scatter,” he said.

He took his niece back to the hotel and came back out. That’s when the 30-year-old saw the person fire his weapon and an officer shoot him.

“I saw the guy fall over dead in front of me,” Howard said, and another woman was shot in the knees, he said.

“I remember bullets ringing in my ears,” he said, adding, everyone who witnessed the shooting will forever be traumatized.

South Carolina Law Enforcement Division are investigating the shooting along Ocean Boulevard that involved a Myrtle Beach Police officer. The agency will decide if the officer’s shooting was justified, said Myrtle Beach Police spokesperson Randolph Angotti.

North Ocean Boulevard from Eighth Avenue to Mr. Joe White Avenue is closed after a shooting happened Saturday, April 26, 2025. Multiple people were shot and an officer had to discharge their weapon.

North Ocean Boulevard from Eighth Avenue to 16th Avenue stayed closed through Sunday morning, reopening in the afternoon. Police tape lined the roadway and employees at several businesses, including Peaches Corner, had to take longer routes to get to work or were unable to.

Thundering Herd Part Deux. Thanks again, Gun Bunny.

The Brady Bill’s only effect will be to desensitize the public to regulation of weapons in preparation for their ultimate confiscation.

Going out on a limb here, since details are so sketchy (so much for “updates when info is available”), and say that both of these cases are examples of “the usual suspects” doing the “usual things”. Good on the citizen for defending himself and good shooting by the LEO that neutralized the threat.

When I finally do pick up a stubby M4 carbine here soon, they’ll confiscate it only at great cost to them. Is it Blue Helmet Season yet? Is that banjo music I hear?

I’ve been to Myrtle Beach several times to visit friends and have loved it each time. It’s a friendly city.
To hear about this is heart breaking for me.

Bystander Michael Howard took his niece to the hotel then came back out?

The stupid is strong with that one. When the bullets start flying, getting outta Dodge ought to be priority, not gawking as the bullets are flying. When I was an EMT-B we called them “The Uh-Oh Squad”

More thoughtfully, I suspect Howard may have just wanted to get in front of a TV camera, and may have… ‘elaborated’… just a bit.

Sounds like he should be experiencing a flesh wound to the brain.
