Marine Osprey involved in an “incident” in Norway

| March 18, 2022

Word has just come in that a USMC MV-22 Osprey aircraft has been involved in an “incident” while in Norway and taking part in NATO Exercise Cold Response 22. Fox News is reporting that the Joint Rescue Coordination Centres of Norway have rescue crews enroute.

Here’s the Marine Corps’ latest on it;

Hope the rescue effort entails giving the Osprey a jump start and everyone comes home unscathed.

My thoughts, hope everyone is alive and reasonably well, fuck the aircraft. Send in a helo and pick everyone up and take them home for cookies and hot chocolate.
 😄

“…take them home for crayons and cold beer.” FIFY, Chippy.

Seems as if we are having a rash of OOPS moments of late. Is this lack of training, lack of proper maintaining, or just the odds catching up on overextended troops and equipment? Betcha they better be all caught up with their CRT/ Woke Training and that pilot has his PT Belt on.

Prayers for these Marines lifted up.

ChipNASA

Amen.

If the people are all ok, the plane can be replaced.
Preferably with a Warthog, but….

How many OV-10’s can we buy with the money it cost to
buy just one of those whirlygig contraptions?
Love to watch a Bronco work out.

My first unit after I came in the USAF was an OV-10A unit, 602nd TACW, 27th TASS. Thought it was an ugly bird, but after being in the unit for a while, I found it to be an impressive bird.

As for the Marines, I hope all are found safe and sound, hate hearing about down aircraft.

Fucking delicious.
The bad food the shitty logistics the self-inflicted wounds I really am starting to believe the propaganda that Russia is completely a Third World military

More details.
It’s a crash, in the mountains of northern Norway,
currently inaccessible by air due to weather.
Ground rescue en route.
From my son’s base at MCAS New River (NC), but not his unit.
He probably knows 2 or more of the 4.
Prayers are in order.
(Not jokes.)

Sadly, once again no survivors.

I was offered an opportunity to fly in a USMC MV-22 shortly before I retired from the Marine Corps.

I politely (and firmly) refused.

Probably flown on the Osprey 25 times or so. So much faster than a helicopter and carries an ass load of stuff and troops. It’s safety rating is better than any RW AC the Marines fly.

Mick

Thank you, Mr. Helper.

You flew in an MV-22 as a passenger approximately 25 times.

I was a Marine Corps Aviator for 25+ years.

You no doubt have a comparable level of experience in Marine Corps Aviation. As such, I defer to your superior knowledge, and I greatly appreciate you “holding school” for me and providing me with your well-informed opinion on the MV-22’s operational safety record.

5JC

Not sure why so snooty. The safety record is public knowledge. I still flew in one 25 times more than you did.

USMC Steve

I wonder if its impressive safety record includes all the crashes in its like 10 year development period. We used to see one of them things crash like once a week back then.

USMC Steve

I remember when that flying edsel was in development for like forever. Glad I retired out before that thing replaced good aircraft.

USAFRetired

I saw a report earlier this a.m. that there were 4 casualties.

Cold Response 22… I think I dated her.
