Senator Marco Rubio on falling back an hour this Sunday
Daylight saving time ends this Sunday, at 2 a.m., when clocks are set back an hour. Senator Marco Rubio wants to change this reality so that we remain on daylight saving time throughout the year. This would remove the need to adjust clocks back or forward by an hour.
From Newsmax:
We’re about to once again do this annual craziness of changing the clock, falling back, springing forward,” he said. “The overwhelming majority of members of Congress approve and support [ending this]. Let’s get it done. Let’s get it passed, so that we never have to do this stupid change again.”
Proponents of making daylight saving time permanent argue it betters the health and safety of the nation by saving energy, preventing traffic accidents, and curbing crime.
Jim Reed of the National Conference of State Legislatures told USA Today that six states enacted measures to make daylight saving time year-round during this year’s legislative session, meaning no clock changes.
Currently, states can opt out of participating in daylight saving time. However, it requires a change to federal law.
According to the 1966 Uniform Time Act, states must change the clocks to daylight saving time at a specified time and day or follow standard time throughout the year.
Keep adjusting clocks twice a year, or pick one and stay on it? Newsmax has the article here. MSN News has more on setting clocks back this weekend.

I say split the difference. Set everything back 30 minutes this year and forget the whole thing. We will be halfway between Daylight Savings and standard time forever.
Who’s with me?
Believe it or not, there are some half-hour time-zones (and more):

I’ve always been amused by the ones off by 45/15 minutes.
It works well in Arizona. My dad always said DST was like cutting a foot off the top of your blanket and sewing it to the bottom because your feet are cold.
Old stale joke: The old Indian chief said: “Only white man damn fool enough to think if you tear end off blanket and sew onto other end, you get longer blanket.”
Old but still true.
Just delete the whole thing and get it over with.
Multiple issues with this including multiple, scientifically based reports showing an increase in accidents because of this, based on how it affects us.

1 (car accidents), 2 ( Increased workplace injuries) & 3 (More heart attacks) are a big deal 4 (WTF is cyberloafing,?! That’s every day) and 5 (Increased cluster headaches? Not my problem but for some people I guess.) , not so much

We had a girl technician that would be late to work every spring because “I forgot to change me clock”. Odd, she was never at work an hour early in the fall.
You can bet that the crews will have a safety briefing FIRST (ht 2 Chip) thing Monday on all the items in your linky. Twice a year, mandatory.
Change your smoke alarm batteries!
Don’t care either way. TBH, resetting the clock has always been a pain. Now if you want to do something about the Nations former Agriculture basis, start with eliminating the subsidies for the conglomerates that bought up all farms. That would be nice.
I’d be in favor of full time DST. Besides the cold, the thing I hate most about Winter is when it gets dark at 5 pm.
I would not be in favor of getting rid of DST because having the sun rise at 4:00 AM during the Summer would be a waste of good daylight. I’d rather have that daylight at the end of the day where it can be used. Who the hell is up at 4:00 AM? Even when I was on Active Duty I didn’t get up that early.
As I explained to my Commander and 1st Sergeant, I had to have two alarm clocks. The first was to wake up the air and the second was to wake me up. Air isn’t up at 4:00 am
I wish Marco had better things to do.
Word
Marco trots out once again to spout nonsense on an idea that no law maker has any intention of making come true.
Meanwhile, get a jab or possibly lose your livelihood, up to 450k per separated illegal immigrant, fauci funding inhumane treatments of beagle pups for “science” to list but a few items he could be speaking out on.
But hey, messing with daylight savings time is a very safe issue, no possibility of blowback.
I certainly am glad we are not getting any more mean tweets from the previous administration 😉
Just put the whole country on ZULU time and be done with it.
Geeez…it took a Signal guy to finally say it.
Count me in.
While Hack Stone was still on active duty working at the Pentagon, quite a few scheduled maintenance outages did not get completed because civilian contractors had a problem grasping that particular time zone. When the Colonel would ask why it was not completed, Hack would say that the contractors were Zulu Challenged.
A few years later, Hack was working at the Pentagon as a contractor. He drafted an Authorized Service Interruption form to schedule maintenance. The form had a spot for date and Zulu Time. People would turn in the form with “9:00 Local”. Hack says “Who’s local time? Arlington Virginia? Denver Colorado? This circuit spans customers worldwide. That is why we use Zulu Time. No ambiguity.”
Just like China. The whole massive country spread across five times zones observes a single “Beijing Time”.
The adjusting of clocks this weekend allows an additional hour for Phil Monkress of All Points Logistics to falsely claim that he was a US Navy SEAL.

Don’t care what system they use, just wish they would make a decision and stick with it. Quit changing the clocks. It makes no sense at all.
If we don’t change the clocks, then how are we supposed to remember to check the batteries in the smoke detectors?
Me, I vote for eliminating DST entirely.
In Mexico they used to call it “El tiempo de Dios y el tiempo del Rey” – God’s time and the King’s time.
I also remember when I worked for a private security company in downtown Houston, decades ago – and the guys in accounting decided to pay the 3rd shift guys just 8 hours for a 9 hour actual-work shift, claiming that they made it up in the Fall with a 7 hour worked shift.
Only trouble was not every officer who worked the Spring shift worked the Fall shift. The Sprint shift guys got the shaft.
Hacked us off big time.
Finally Little Marco has an idea worth supporting.
It’s all about the marketing and branding. Instead of doing it on a Sunday, we should ‘Spring Forward’ at 4:pm on a Friday and ‘Fall Back’ at 8 am on a Monday.
I believe I would get bipartisan support on this with the exception of AOC and Ilhan Omar who would tie it to white privilege and the patriarchy as it favors those who have jobs.
