Would-be carjackers runaway from car with manual transmission, reports say

Two men wearing ski masks tried to take a 58-year-old man’s car at gunpoint Friday morning in New Orleans’ Central Business District, but they ended up running away because they couldn’t drive a car with a manual transmission, reports to police said.

Two men wearing ski masks approached their victim in the 600 block of Loyola Avenue, near the Hyatt Regency Hotel around 9:43 a.m., reports to police said.

One of the masked men was armed and told the victim to hand over his wallet and keys, according to the New Orleans Police Department’s Major Offense Log, a list of crimes reported to police that are pending confirmation via investigation.

The masked men got in the car and tried to drive away, but they were stopped by the car’s manual transmission.

The men couldn’t navigate the stick shifter, so they ran away — taking nothing more than the victim’s wallet.

A recent citywide survey shows that during the first six months of 2021, violent crime – homicides, non-fatal shootings, car-jackings and armed robberies – increased citywide by 47 percent over the same period in 2020.

The most alarming spike was car-jackings with a 101 percent increase, followed by non-fatal shootings with a 64 percent increase. Homicides are up 27 percent, while armed robberies edged down by 6 percent, the study shows.

As Twitchy reported, a tone-deaf Speaker Nancy Pelosi is spouting off today about Women’s Equality Day while men, women, and children — including at least a dozen U.S. Marines — have been killed outside the airport in Kabul by a pair of suicide bombers. This might have been a scheduled tweet, which is further proof that scheduled tweets are often a bad idea.

Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Grinston tweeted Thursday about Women’s Equality Day and the importance of not just diversity in the Army but inclusion as well.

Murder suspect arrested after returning to scene to retrieve cellphone, JPD says

A cellphone found at the scene of a fatal shooting led to the arrest of a murder suspect, Jackson police officials said.

Police said the victim was shot in the face about 1:30 a.m. Thursday at Capital and Clifton streets. The victim is unidentified, police said.

While officers examined the cellphone found at the crime scene, Tyrunte Spann returned to recover it, police said.

Spann was taken to police headquarters where he was interviewed and later arrested.

Spann is charged with murder, police said.

Harvard names atheist as chief chaplain

For real. You can’t make this up.

Harvard University, the elite institution founded by Puritans to train ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, has selected a devout atheist to serve as its chief chaplain.

Greg Epstein was named president of the chaplains for the religious community at the school after serving as Harvard’s “humanist chaplain” since 2005, the New York Times reported.

The university, with the motto “Truth for Christ and the Church,” was founded by in 1636 and named for pastor John Harvard.

Epstein, 44, was ordained as a Humanist Rabbi by the International Institute for Secular Humanistic Judaism. He’s the author of a 2010 book titled “Good Without God: What A Billion Nonreligious People Do Believe.”

He explained to the Times that being a humanist rabbi means combining “Jewish culture with the belief that this world is all we have.”

Epstein said “there is a rising group of people who no longer identify with any religious tradition but still experience a real need for conversation and support around what it means to be a good human and live an ethical life.”

The Times reported a survey by the campus newspaper, the Harvard Crimson, found 21% of the class of 2019 were agnostic and 17% were atheist. That compared to 17% Catholic, 10% Jewish and 3% Hindus and 3% Muslim.

Overall, 20% of Americans identify as atheist, agnostic or non-religious, according to a Pew Research Center poll.

I wonder if Mikey Weinstein has gotten himself ordained as a “Humanist Rabbi” yet.

Thanks to Joe Biden the Taliban Now has Over 200 Military Aircraft — Ranks them as #26 in List of Nations in Combat Aircraft Strength

It’s worse than we thought. Joe Biden supplied the Taliban terrorist organization and their Islamist accomplices with billions of dollars worth of US armaments.

Rather than destroying the equipment before leaving the country, Joe Biden decided to leave the nearly $85 billion worth of US military equipment to the Taliban.

The source, The Gateway Pundit, links to open source research conducted on the number of aircraft the Taliban may now be in possession of. We gave them 208 aircraft since 2007. Surely they lost some to attrition over those years and some of them were flown out of the country as the Taliban took over.

The Pundit points out though that due to the utterly disaster that is the Biden Administration, the Taliban could be the world’s 26th largest air force by number of aircraft. That puts them just behind Great Britain (222), Algeria and Belarus (both 213), but in front of Vietnam (189) and Ukraine (188).
