How to Un-Win a War
This quote should be on EVERY Republican ad running for congress next year!
This man is beyond a naïve affirmative action President; he is dangerous.
If Tenet is right, it’s a good thing KSM was captured before Barack Obama became president. For, the Obama Justice Department has quietly ordered FBI agents to read Miranda rights to high value detainees captured and held at U.S. detention facilities in Afghanistan, according a senior Republican on the House Intelligence Committee. “The administration has decided to change the focus to law enforcement. Here’s the problem. You have foreign fighters who are targeting US troops today – foreign fighters who go to another country to kill Americans. We capture them…and they’re reading them their rights – Mirandizing these foreign fighters,” says Representative Mike Rogers, who recently met with military, intelligence and law enforcement officials on a fact-finding trip to Afghanistan.
Rogers, a former FBI special agent and U.S. Army officer, says the Obama administration has not briefed Congress on the new policy. “I was a little surprised to find it taking place when I showed up because we hadn’t been briefed on it, I didn’t know about it. We’re still trying to get to the bottom of it, but it is clearly a part of this new global justice initiative.”
This is beyond asinine. The fact that the Obama administration is doing this under the radar proves that he knows it’s idiotic but he’s doing it anyway.
Why is he doing it? Who knows?
But I know this, men will die because of it.
Of course Obama doesn’t care. In fact, I believe that more dead soldiers is what he wants. The more dead GI’s the better his case for surrendering and giving the Jihadis exactly what they want.
Any lefties (who actually served) want to defend this? Haven’t heard from Wheeler lately. What say you Richard? Did you ever read Miranda rights while you were in Vietnam?
Caution: If you try to defend this, I know you never saw anything close to real combat.

What happens if a soldier gets fed-up and decides to administer some double-tap mirandas? Are the lefties going to blame White House policies for pushing a soldier over the edge? (rhetorical,I already know the answer)
Dang this site is loading slow today…….
When will Americans realize that this Scammer does not have the best interests of Americans at heart? This is all about a power trip, and when it is all over, his score card will show just how much he did to “lift us from the constraints of the Constitution”.
His supporters react to our questioning his legality and his ability with silence. They know they have no argument. Miranda Rights for warring enemy forces? WTF,O?

If Joe & Snuffy have to do the Dragnet routine in Helmand, here’s what I think will Happen.
Less Prisoners will be taken, and a more “robust” clearing of Objectives will take place.
Bn. will expressly forbid it, but Joe aint gonna take the chances that Hakim will walk because his Legal Aid lawyer found a his “Rights” werent given in Pashto
I’m a 27 Year Infantryman and I approved this message
Tanker,
Jimmy Carter lite, all the appeasement, none of the.. oh who am I trying to kid?
I noticed the same thing re: the speed. Yesterday it was blocked on my computer by Norton as a bad site full of bad men….
Without saying it this administration is saying “take no prisoners”. Closing Gitmo, raising questions about the prison at Bagram, and now making the FBI Mirandize those already in custody there is little for a soldier to do knowing that if we catch them they will be back shortly for another go at them.
We are making multi million dollar deals to send some Gitmo detainees to island vacation spots, at time when according to the president in training pants we are out of money.
It just doesn’t make sense but just like former vice president Cheney warned about, we can’t treat this as a law enforcement issue. The biggest flaw in that logic is that for law enforcement to step in a crime has got to happen. Pray you are not the victim of the crime that results in prosecution.
Sean, while I agree with your premise, I am sure the Pentagon will increase the number of CID and JAG in theater to prevent this sort of action by soldiers/Marines. Units that are too evective will be singled out for scrutiny. Pretty pathetic.
Love it! You gents have the perfect solution. I belive in Mirandizing only after the recipient has assumed room temperature due to vigorous de-animation procedures.
And PD – I don’t expect to see any JAGs in the actual theater or engagement, only after the after-action stuff is filed.
Tanker – your phrase is the best – double tap Mirandas.
This who thing give me a new take on the phrase – Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.
Smoke clears over a body strewn field:
“Any you guys see anything here?”
“Sir, no Sir, ain’t seen shit Sir!”
Ill say it again. What does this really hurt. Miranda statements do not give someone a free pass to get away with anything. They inform a person of their rights under the constitution. Only citizens of the US fall under that regulation.
Yes, it means nothing. Yes, its a waste of time. No, I don’t see our honorable soldiers deciding to kill more eagerly because they have to read something to someone. Hell, aren’t a lot of the troops over there Mp’s anyway? Isn’t this god practice??
It seems like the administration is trying to make what we’re doing seem a bit more above board, and you all are mad about it. The same men will be taken, the same justice will be served, but yo all just like the good old days.
While it DOES depend on who nabs the bad guys I’d be a bit concerned about the double tap answer if administered with traceable weapons.
“Oh dear, he seems to be carrying some sort of rifle, I’d better clear it – oops!”
“It seems like the administration is trying to make what we’re doing seem a bit more above board”. Again, this is naive, beyond belief. It’s a WAR, not a DUI arrest. And who cares what the muslims think, oh never mind, the Pope of Hope cares. H/T to B5 for that phrase. Why doesn’t he just surrender and get it over with?
DCnative, no, I don’t really see honorable soldiers killing more eagerly but they aren’t trained as cops. How much B.S. are they willing to put up with before saying “to hell with it” and getting out? When does just one crack and do the deed?
To your other point. If rights only apply to US citizens why the hell mirandize them at all? My best answer, someone with a much higher pay grade than either of us….like the CinC….. thinks those rights DO apply to enemy combatants.
I have a question, why are the soldiers of Abu Grhaib (sp) looked at with more disdain and contempt than hadji with an AK?
Answer me this combat MP’s, were you trained to mirandize POWs? During Desert Storm we must have run across a thousand POWs. We took their weapons, ran over them with our tank, pointed to the rear and sent them on. We never read them their rights and they only said “thank you”
Reminds me of the scene in Band of Brothers where the German is trying to surrender, saying, “Nicht schiessen, nicht schiessen”. The GI double-tap Mirandizes him (love that phrase!) and says, “I wonder what he was saying”.
COB, you’re right that this puts your son and daughter in danger. What a load of crap.

Guys. Seriously.

If they don’t have any rights under our Constitution, reading them their rights shouldn’t take very long. What’s pashto for “You have the right to die for your cause?”
If it were me, I might cornfuse things and say something like “You have to the right to remain dead. If you give up that right their will be a battalion of *ticked off* soldiers bringing smoke upon you”
Do you understand these non-civilain rights you actually don’t have?
