First woman Army Secretary confirmed…then unconfirmed(?)

| May 27, 2021

Almost-Secretary Christine Wormuth

I didn’t know someone could be “unconfirmed.” Jeff LPH 3 sends in this Army Times report;

Christine Wormuth nearly became the first woman in U.S. history to ascend to the Army’s top civilian post when the Senate confirmed her Wednesday evening — until the body reversed her confirmation just hours later in an unusual development.

CSPAN footage of the proceedings shows Majority Leader Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., announcing the reversal. Schumer’s staff did not immediately respond to a request for clarification from Army Times, and the senator deleted a previous tweet hailing Wormuth’s confirmation.

Wormuth’s confirmation was the only one reversed.

Wormuth had already acknowledged her confirmation online, saying she was “so honored to be confirmed as Secretary of the Army” in response to a friend’s tweet. Sergeant Major of the Army Michael Grinston had also shared his congratulations with his new civilian boss as well.

Roll Call reporter Andrew Clevenger described the move as “more like a procedural hiccup than a threat to her historic confirmation” in a Wednesday evening tweet.

“Procedural hiccup?” What the hell is that? The Hill describes it thusly;

The Senate appeared to approve Wormuth’s nomination to be Army secretary Wednesday evening when Sen. Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.) took to the floor and got unanimous consent to confirm Wormuth, as well as a batch of military nominations.

But a couple hours later, Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) got unanimous consent to “vitiate” the earlier action on Wormuth, rescinding her confirmation.

I can’t really find what “vitiate” means as a rule of parliamentary procedure in the Senate. It might be related to the lack of a quorum. So “unanimous consent” when too few Senators are present to count as a vote. If that’s the case, it really changes the implication of what is “unanimous consent.”

If they lacked a quorum and voided the action because of it the other actions should have been undone as well.

Who knows what goes on at Sodom on the Potomac.

She was confirmed AGAIN this morning:

According to the New York Post:

“Roll Call reporter Andrew Clevenger, who has covered her confirmation, said the reversal “looks more like a procedural hiccup than a threat to her historic nomination” in a Twitter post.”

“Unclear why the Senate would do this, but it appears there wasn’t quite unanimous consent to confirm Wormuth as we reported earlier. This looks more like a procedural hiccup than a threat to her historic confirmation, but we’ll learn more soon,” he wrote.”

“New Army secretary Christine Wormuth can breathe a sigh of relief after the Senate confirmed her via unanimous consent Thursday morning. She is the first woman in U.S. history to ascend to the Army’s top civilian post.”

    • SFC D says:

Who cares if it’s a “historic nomination”. Can she do the job, and do it well? Or am I asking too much again?

      • KoB says:

None of us. We don’t know. Time will tell. Yes!

Have a shot of Jameson, chased by a cold frosty Yuengling SFC D. It will help put it all in perspective.

I’m just hanging out waiting on Ex’s “Thursday are for Cooking” post. Shorely be am, dam am, be getting hongry. Wonder what our Newest Adorable Deplorable, Kristy Mac, has on her menu for today? She writes a good prose…and cooks too! I’ll be watching IDC SARC like an FO with a Fire Mission on his mind. You know how he is.

Good to see ninja is back in the accustomed rare form today. I’ll just leave this right here…GABN/RTR/HBTD!

BTW, according to Kate Slater on the other post about White Folks, Coach Saban, Coach Smart and Coach Monken are all RACISTS!! because they are Caucasians.

          (sarc) 😉😎😆😅🤣😂

        • SFC D says:

I’m afraid I can’t do that, KoB. I’m at work and they frown on that sort of thing, even for medicinal purposes. Maybe I could claim PTS of the D…

      • USMC Steve says:

If you man doing it correctly, not a chance in hell. If you mean doing it the way Resident Biden and his minions want it done, sure thing.

  3. KoB says:

Maybe they realized she had the required gender, but not the required race…you know…to fit the current agenda. Just as the song used to say, “…long haired freaky people need not apply…”, now the song is “…Caucasian Males need not apply…”

Some confusion on this. Later reports have that they have rescinded the rescinded appointment, and she was confirmed today. The things we do know for sure is she is a certified swamp dweller, having been slurping at the public trough since 1995, and is an oblowme admin re-tread. Imagine that.

Perhaps it was Chuckie Schumer flexing on Joe? Who knows what is going on in the halls of power after they railroaded Joe in as the nominee.

This shit is going to keep happening until they stop letting Steve Harvey count the votes.

    • Sparks says:

      LMFAO!

    • UpNorth says:

I think that Steve Harvey could probably do a better job of running things than the people who were, allegedly, elected to do so.

    • Mason says:

Steve Harvey (and John O’Hurley, Richard Karn, Louie Anderson, Ray Combs, and Richard Dawson before him) never has a survey add up to more than 100%. The Feud might be a model for their counts actually.

Hack Stone remembers his Confirmation Hearing. Sister Margaret was one tough penguin. The questioning was carried live on C-Span (Catholic Spanish Inquisition).

  8. Hatchet says:

I can’t really find what “vitiate” means as a rule of parliamentary procedure in the Senate –

@ Mason – found this ‘out there’ and hope it applies to your question –

    Vitiate:

To impair or make void; to destroy or annul, either completely or partially, the force and effect of an act or instrument.

Mutual mistake or Fraud, for example, might vitiate a contract.

Vitiate to destroy the force or legal effect of, for example, a deed.

    Hope this was helpful.

Odd that everything has to be historic at the same time they are actively trying to destroy our history. What happened to qualifications?

    • Poetrooper says:

“Odd that everything has to be historic at the same time they are actively trying to destroy our history.”

      An astute and pithy observation…

    • Hack Stone says:

What would truly be historic and unprecedented is if they placed someone in a position of authority because they were qualified instead of they bring diversity to the job. Last time, and only time, that Hack Stone went through Basic Training, it was to remove individualism and have everyone work in unison for the common goal of surviving and winning in combat.
