The wife of the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs is on the spot, savin’ lives

Nurse Hollyanne Milley, wife of GEN Milley

Jeff LPH 3 sent along this cool story. Right place at the right time.

The wife of the nation’s highest-ranking military officer saved the life of man during a Veterans Day event at the Arlington National Cemetery on Wednesday.

Hollyanne Milley — a practicing nurse married to Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff — was attending the ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier when she heard groaning behind her. It was just after the ceremonial wreath had been placed and before President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Robert Wilkie appeared.

Milley can be seen on video closing her umbrella and walking toward the sound about a minute and a half after a man in a dark suit is seen uneasily walking up the stairs, bracing himself on the marble as he went. Once at the top of the stairs, he kneeled behind a column at the eastern entrance of the Memorial Amphitheater, near where the ceremony was taking place.

In a statement emailed to Military Times on Saturday, Milley said she heard “a little commotion” behind her and she went to see if she could help.

“When I first got there, he was breathing in a very erratic way that he wasn’t really taking air into his lungs as he should have been,” Milley said. “And then he stopped breathing.”

Milley checked his pulse and it was flat, so she told an onlooker to call 911 before beginning CPR. Milley didn’t give mouth-to-mouth, she said.

After about two cycles of chest compression, “he took a big spontaneous breath and a big groan on his own, and he started moving air,” she said. “After a few breaths, he started coming around.”

At that point, Milley stopped resuscitating the man and moved him into the rescue position on his side.

BZ, ma’am!

5th/77th FA

BZ Mrs Hollyanne, gots to be a Southern Gal. We prone to give them double names out. Good on her for jumping thru the hoops to be licensed in all the different places she’s “…whither thou goeth…” For the unknowing heathens in our group, that’s from the Book of Ruth/”Good Army Wives.”

Article never said what was exactly wrong with the Vet that fell out. Imma gonna go with her wholesome charm and beauty was just so breath taking. Nurse Ratched she’s not.

Did we have this in a comment the other day or did I read it in a news feed FIRST?

And…DAMNIT, I gots to go back to the little big town again today, gonna miss Rawhide, JAG, AND Gunsmoke…AGAIN. Got an offer to sell FOB Elizabeth yesterday, but Ms Real Estate Thang forgot to bring the disclosure form. May be forced to dine at either S&S or go back to Jeannes. The struggle is real. Yesterday Jeannes had that infamous meatloaf, smashed taters with gravy, collard greens with a ham hock, cat headed bisket, and some Lacy Anne Hoe Cakes. That and a pitcher of the house wine (sweet iced tea) put the Gun Bunny into a nap mode.

I shared it on the WOT FIRST, I believe, 5th/77th, but it is worth the greater visibility.

Although you may have seen it on the newsfeeds such as Instapundit previously.

Nothing but respect.

Covid has taken a heavy toll on US medical professionals this year. Many have died, many were sick and lots are suffering burnout. Most are bearing it heroically but the PTSD from dealing with all the death is setting in.

If you know a hospital nurse give him or her some love and appreciation, they don’t just save lives at VA events they do it every single day.

Great example of a nurse taking proactive steps, even in the middle of a solemn ceremony! Sounded like he had a mild (at least) cardiac event, but I do not possess a medical degree and my advice does not constitute any legal or medical opinion. BY acting so quickly she was able to get the heart started again and he started breathing on his own.
YEs, I need to brush up on my CPR techniques!

OK, since IDC SARC is not here and I’m recently single again, (Well 5 years but now sober and straight headed) the obvious retort is necessary…..
Not only would I hit that, but, I’d allow her to repeatedly (if necessary) thump me in the chest and stick her tongue in my mouf (do they do that with the new CPR?, I don’t remember that in my old training class), alas, I believe it’s now compressions only so, that joke goes to pasture.
What a shame.
Morning from Chipster.
