President Trump wants a military parade for the Army’s 250th birthday- Media claims that the parade is for his birthday

| April 8, 2025 | 51 Comments

June 14, 2025, will be the 250th birthday for the United States Army. For the occasion, the Trump administration wants to throw a parade to commemorate the event. June 14 is also Flag Day, the anniversary of when the US flag was adopted. But wait! There’s more! President Donald Trump’s birthday is on June 14. Where the other media is trying to portray this as Trump wanting to have a parade on his birthday, the Associated Press presented a better perspective.

From the Associated Press:

The Army is in early discussions about potentially adding a parade to the Army’s 250th birthday festival, which is being held June 14, according to a defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the discussions are ongoing and no decisions have been made.

June 14 is also Trump’s 79th birthday.

The White House in a statement said that “no military parade has been scheduled.”

The Army birthday festival, which has been in the planning stages for about two years, is to include an array of activities and displays on the National Mall, including Army Stryker armored vehicles, Humvees, helicopters and other equipment.

In a statement, Col. David Butler, an Army spokesman, said that “it’s too early to say yet whether or not we’re having a parade but we’re working with the White House as well as several government agencies to make the celebration a national level event.”

Trump in his first term proposed having a grand military parade in the U.S. after watching one in France on Bastille Day in 2017. Trump said after watching the two-hour procession along the famed Champs-Elysees that he wanted a grander one in Washington on Pennsylvania Avenue.

But the event never happened due to expected high costs, with one estimate of a $92 million price tag, and logistical hangups.

Trump in 2018 said in a post on the social media site then known as Twitter that he was canceling the event over costs and accused local politicians of price gouging.

“When asked to give us a price for holding a great celebratory military parade, they wanted a number so ridiculously high that I cancelled it,” he said in his post.

Why doesn’t he just do like Obama and have a $20,000 a plate fundraiser for his birthday?

Roh-Dog

Or a giant cringy bash at his mansion -the Martha’s Vinyard one, not the other one, nor the other one- during the Worst Cold of All Times period.

He can only hire so many new chefs.

Well Army, since you’re already out there, ya might as well toss in a birthday wish or two. Maybe you could get Stormy Daniels to pop out of a cake? Lord knows she needs the money.

5JC

C’mon, it’s a Saturday in mid June. Let the soldiers take their families to the beach and chill for the weekend.

RGR 4-78

The E-4 Mafia chants.

Stormy!

Stormy!

Stormy!

And mandatory attendance for this morale event.

Wouldn’t mind former Playmate Karen McDougal & alleged mistress to the Donald.

You must mean “Whormy” Daniel’s. She is a compulsive liar, and like her former attorney, will do anything for lotsa money.

If Trump could walk on water, the MSM would report Trump can’t swim.

Sailorcurt

Easy. All he has to do is issue an executive order declaring his birthday this year is hereby moved to June 13; therefore any Army birthday celebrations will not occur on his birthday, thus neutralizing the claim that he’s throwing a parade for his birthday.

you’re welcome.

Odie

So, by their reasoning, if his birthday was Dec 25th he would be Jesus?

Roh-Dog

For the love of everything is shit, just when I thought I couldn’t hate “the press” anymore than I do already you go ahead and pull this fuckery.

We shouldn’t hold a parade, but have a GIANT kegger. (I’m gonna send sharpies and spray paint for the boys!)

DC will wake up on the 15th to find their city festooned with phalli they so rightly deserve.

5JC

I wonder how large a penis they would draw on the Washington Monument?

Roh-Dog

Never underestimate the seemingly unnatural abilities of a drunk Infantryman to boldly draw dicks where none been drawn before!

KoB

“Naw Carl, they didn’t draw a dick on your face, they TRACED a dick on your face!”

SFC D

Navy says “Hold my beer”.

Odie

We can get the air force, or navy, to draw dicks and balls in the sky. Maybe a competition to see whose sky art lasts the longest. Make the ladies swoon.

Roh-Dog

With all due respect to the Airforce and Navy Aviators, without photographic proof all their Moon missions were for naught unless someone carved into that dust an extraterrestrial dong.

Marker’s been laid, gentlemen.

Like my old mentor used to say:
“Those who can march cannot fight, and those who can fight cannot march.”

A parade is at least a three-month loss of training. I pity the units selected for this task.

MIRanger

I think the Army has this small unit, that happens to be in the area who know how to march and perform in parades! Oh, and by the way they have (had) horses, and can dress up like what they looked like 250years ago, and have even been known to include a band!

MIRanger

They could invite the Rangers…they should be rested up after St. Patrick’s Day in Savannah. They could even have the other Battalions Jump in!

5JC

A parade is its own training. Not MOS based of course. It is training in leadership, synchrony, inspections among other things. Always hated them though.

Dennis - not chevy

The trick to getting out of parades is make sure you smile and act like you’re having too much fun. If there are photographers about, make sure you’re in several pictures. As soon as I heard the 1st Sgt say, “Dennis, you’re having too much fun” I was safe for at least a year.

Berliner

In Berlin, summer was parade season. If the British or French were having a parade we were marching also, which required days of practice. We even had a short but extra wide street, Platz Der 4 Juli, complete with bleachers, next to Ledward Barracks for parade practice, and the occasional Huey landing.

The multiple bleachers along the street are long gone and the barracks now have balconies and rooftop gardens. The grassy area where the bleachers were along the street now has an entrance for residents underground parking.

Slick Goodlin

When I was in the 82nd Airborne, we were able to organize and march in a yearly Division Review. Just change location and scale it up for Army Day.

Think Old Guard!

rgr769

Why? We had about 200 mounted cavalry reenactors do a parade on horseback at the 1992 reenactment of the Civil War battle of Brandy Station. It came off beautifully. We came from all over the country, had never drilled together, and had to use a different drill manual of which most of us weren’t familiar. We only had one day to get organized and practice. On Saturday, in front of thousands of spectators, we paraded for Gen. JEB Stewart and his staff. I had the thrill of being the lead platoon leader and giving the command of execution to turn that eight abreast column of horsemen. Thus, I cannot believe the full-time active duty Army could not pull this parade off with a week’s worth of training and prep. Unless, they don’t teach drill and ceremonies any more at Basic.

Forest Bondurant

How soon will the MSM jump on this and claim that Trump wants a parade to celebrate his 79th birthday and declare that date a national holiday – (like Hitler did for his 50th birthday) – so they can draw another parallel to Trump’s “fascism” and being a “Nazi”.

Roh-Dog

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) at the time called the military parade plans a “fantastic waste of money to amuse the president.”

If it’ll upset Dick Duhderbin I’m all in!

SFC D

He’s just pissed that he never got a parade.

Y’all ever LOLed how appropriately some folks are named? And how their name describes them? “Dick” Blowthemall? “Dick” Dirtbin? “Dick” (Balls on his) Chinny? Or is it just me?

This “Dick” is of the opinion a parade to celebrate 250 years of (GO) Army is a waste of money…I’m of the opinion that “Dick” is a waste of oxygen.

Odie

Maybe we should treat all Dicks in this manner. No translation required.

Flag Day, the Army birthday – both good occasions. But the last time they talked about a parade, DC wanted the $92,000,000 referred to – and Trump said the price was too high. Ya think DC would charge less now? Highly doubtful. I would say with so many fired in the name of government waste, and all the money blown out (theoretically at least) of the market and retirement plans by the tariffs, a big expensive parade would come across as a giant “fuck you” to all.

Grunt

Fair points, but 92 million doesn’t pass the smell test, in my opinion.

I’d like to see a cost estimate worksheet on where that amount came from. Is that projected costs for the city to support the parade with traffic control, extra police, etc? Or is that billing every penny of city operations that day to the parade just to create a jumbo number?

SFC D

I’d say it was a blatant extortion attempt by the DC mayor. Or intentionally jacking up the price as a preventative measure. Either way works.

Hate_me

I always hated parade detail and the vast majority of soldiers I served with were never even taught the army birthday.

However, it’s the 250th anniversary. That a parade wasn’t part of the plan from the start is a travesty.

Oh goody a Canine and Equine extravaganza.

November 10th is the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the Marine Corps and the 11th is Veteran’s Day, shut the critics up and hold it then.

Peter the Bubblehead

In May 2014 my Submarine Veterans organization (celebrating our 50th anniversary) participated in the Grand Memorial Day Parade (held annually – at least at the time) down Constitution Ave from 7th St NW (where the National Archive is located) down past the White House. The parade lasted hours and filled the entirety of Constitution Avenue. Sub Vets alone had four parade floats and nearly 100 marchers.
How would a parade on Flag Day celebrating the 250th Birthday of the US Army be any more difficult to organize or expensive to hold?

SFC D

The price goes up because Trump.

There’s nothing like a good, old-fashioned parade to demonstrate our Army’s strength. To do it right, though, would cost who only knows how much. As MIRanger already pointed out, there is a ceremonial unit in the DC area that can not only march their asses off but can represent the history of the US Army. They do the latter each year during Twilight Tattoo and used to have a much more elaborate event that told the Army Story (sorry, spent too much time in TOG and as a Recruiter to not capitalize it) in the form of Spirit of America. But a 250th birthday parade should include much more than just The Old Guard; it should demonstrate our tactical assets: vehicles, various units to include our rainbow beret crowd (green, tan, maroon, and brown, are there others by now?), a flyover with various aviation assets, etc.

As a former member of TOG, I also feel for those in that unit that would be tasked with this event. The funerals aren’t going to stop, and the constant GO/DA/Arrival/Cordon/Wreath-Laying ceremonies would at most be rescheduled around such a parade.

rgr769

What units wear brown berets?

Lord, don’t let the Navy in. Have you seen the way we march? That and nowadays half the sailors (women) are 250 pounds with a double wide azz.
