Don’t want Chinese on US Posts?
I’m sure we all saw the headlines about Chinese entities buying land near US bases. The reports said the land was ostensibly for farming, but many worried that more nefarious activities like surveillance could take place. Quite a few articles were written about it nine months ago. There was even an article in the Wall Street Journal about how over 100 incidents of Chinese citizens attempting to breach security at American bases.
A report in the Wall Street Journal from September 2023 found Chinese intruders attempted to breach military facilities over 100 times in recent years, including sneaking onto a missile range in New Mexico and scuba divers spotted near a government rocket-launch site in Florida.
The threat the Chinese government poses to America is huge, with the FBI labelling it a “grave threat” and director Christopher Wray saying in April hackers have made their way into US critical infrastructure and are waiting “for just the right moment to deal a devastating blow” and “physically wreak havoc.” NY Post
Not really suspicious, right?
Chinese holdings total under one percent of foreign-owned agricultural land in the US, per NBC, but its the proximity to critical military installations which raises concerns, critics have charged. NY Post
So everyone is on the alert and we’ve got it under control, right? Bueller? Bueller? What have you heard since? Some bills introduced, none passed.
Well, turns out we don’t need to worry about Chinese linked businesses off-post. Know why? They’re ON post.
In June 2020, vitamin retailer GNC filed for bankruptcy and was wholly acquired by Harbin Pharmaceuticals, a partially state-owned enterprise in China. Harbin had previously acquired a 40% stake in GNC in 2018.
Now, some 85 GNC stores operate on U.S. military bases. They operate under what are known as “long term concessions” contracts, meaning they are operated, staffed and supplied by GNC.
“You know who these people are, the customers you’ve got, their purchasing habits. You have access to sensitive health information based on the type of products that they’re purchasing,” he said.
The store could identify individuals with vulnerabilities by tracking frequent purchases of testosterone, sleep aids, or anxiety supplements, Harrigan (Rep. Pat Harrigan, R-N.C. – ed.) said. It could also monitor deployment cycles based on changes in buying patterns, he added. Fox News
Just knew that would thrill you.

And how many years has this been going on?
249 years.
Only Chinese I want on post is Panda Express.
The guy who owns the local Panda is Chinese. He is sorta old school and gets on to the workers about portion size and speed of getting the orders down the line, in front of the customers. It is kind of refreshing to see the young kids getting pushed a little and not just being their lazy selves.

Wait…….you don’t want a rub n tug?
No special massag-e with happy ending, sorry.
David, did you forget the part where you blame everything on Trump? I am surprised I didn’t see it. I was bracing for it.
This is more of a Hegseth issue. The SEC DEF performance in the last four years has been downright vacant. It’s almost like he wasn’t even there and was phoning it in.
DEI-hire fatass? Say it ain’t so?! /sarc
Well, there was a spell there where WASN’T even phoning it in.
Didn’t even phone it in on a few occasions.
I try to only blame politicians for what is under their purview.
“the land was ostensibly for farming”
Very true. They buy farm land in Maine with a house and
barn then grow weed inside. The only clue is the 25kva pole
pig outside with 400 amp service cable to the house.
The power companies have started cooperating with law
enforcement lest they become complicit in the operations.
While most of the grows are legal, there is much more to the
operations than is being reported. Plenty of blame (profit)
to go around.
My shocked look…
Reclaim the land thru eminent domain and deport anybody with a connection to the ChiCom grubermint…including bought/paid for/compromised US politicians. How much land in Chyna are US Citizens allowed to buy? Jus’ sayin’.
The Saudis took all the ground water out here in Az. Just now the politicians are taking note because towns and long term farms are drying up. Somebody made alot of money. Google Fondomonte water.
Won’t be long before Willcox and areas south drops into a sinkhole because of subsidence.
Maybe time to install a reverse osmosis pump at the Baja California and pump the fresh water into Arizona aquifers.
I think someone is eyeballing that area for lithium.

It’s gonna be interesting mining out there. Bottomless goo during monsoon in most places, and a distinct possibility of UXO in others. It’s a former bombing range.

Raising a(nother) legitimate security concern about China? Freakin’ racists. Signed: “a concerned Dem.”
“including sneaking onto a missile range in New Mexico”
I found that part pretty funny. I have “sneaked”(?) onto a missile range a number of times driving north from El Paso. It’s named White Sands; you may have heard of it. Sometimes traffic is halted during a missile test, which is not a lot of fun; basically parked in the middle of a desert.
On 70 and 54 you’re allowed. Know both those roads ‘WAY too well.
