Esper out as SecDef

| November 9, 2020

In a move that I don’t think surprised anyone, Mark Esper is the latest to receive the “You’re fired” from President Trump. Christopher Miller has been named acting SecDef.

The announcement marks a meteoric rise for Miller, who served in the Army from 1987 through 2014, over the last year.

From 2018 to 2019, Miller served as a special assistant to the president and senior director for counterterrorism and transnational threats at the National Security Council. In January, he was sworn in as deputy assistant secretary of defense for special operations and combating terrorism, a job four levels down from defense secretary, and then was quickly boosted to fill in as performing the duties of assistant secretary of defense for special operations. He was sworn into the National Counterterrorism Center role in August.

The article then goes into some Orange Man Bad, some piss-poor reporting [i.e. they just lie] on what happened in Lafayette Park back in June, and so forth.

Thanks to Jeff LPH 3 for bringing this on in.

Prolly the last real SecDef we will ever have is filling in for a Temporary Job. Be nice to have a Warrior in that slot again. And at the end of the day, The President is still the Commander in Chief, with the ability to fire or recommend hire at will. No appeal to the Union in this case.

I’ll wait right here for the spapos to bring his vulgar drivel over and spew his nonsense on this thread too.

Commissar

Who cares that he fired him? Trump is just going to lash out like a toddler for the next 10 weeks.

He has not interest in a peaceful or fen a functional transition.

He will be a particularly destabilizing force but his power wanes with every day that passes.

And as his power structure collapses those protecting an enabling him will begin to abandon him.

And the ugly facts will come it.

SFC D

When it comes to lashing out like a toddler, you’re our go-to guy.

You set my expectations so high and then fall flat.

What happened to “Esper was fired by Orange Man and replaced by hand-picked sycophant Miller, who will refuse to order the military to remove the President from the White House on inauguration day”?

Get yourself a double shot expresso from Starbucks, blow the crumbs out of the keyboard, and try again.

Stoney

I have to disagree a bit with you FA.

When Mattis came in to be SecDef, I thought it would be great. I really respected and liked him as a leader.

But now, I fully understand the importance of civilian control of the military and the 7 year rule.

I am sure Miller will do fine with the military type decisions, but the Pentagon being on the precipice of the budget cycle could be catastrophic to the entire department.

Only time will tell…but I for one am forever leary of long career military members becoming SecDef or a Service Secretary.

P.S. Although I was not a huge fan of Dr. Esper, I can honestly say from first hand experience, I never saw him ask a question or make a decision that wasn’t motivated by “what is best for the Soldier, Sailor, Marine, Airmen, or civil servants. The man may have been many things, but he wasn’t a yes man or anything near unethical or politically motivated.

So can we keep “Fort Benning” now?
Dicks.

Commissar

No.

There is no possible way confederate base names last this administration.

They should not even have lasted the civil rights era.

Roh-Dog

Wow. What logic! What reason!! What PROSE!!! You are truly Infinite Man, negating history to achieve the finalists of Justice.
I’m not worried tho, President DJT, Jr will right that wrong in 2025, as soon as he’s pardoned his father.

Sarge

While renaming is probably going to happen, there will be fights over the new names.

I highly suggest they tread carefully on this and not name them something that would have secondary and tertiary effects.

Roh-Dog

So, no Fort Chelsea Manning?
Buzzkill.
Camp Goldwater would be gtg, imho.

xyzzy

Finally, I agree with you. There’s a reason why you won’t see a Fort Benedict Arnold or a Jane Fonda AFB; they were traitors. Same way with Hood, Bragg, and many others. Traitors.

You raise your hand against the USA, you should be ridden out on a rail. Not have a military base named after you.

Skippy

Bout Time !!!!!

Wasn’t he supposed to be Biden’s
Sec of Defense too ???

Commissar

No.

NEC338x

Defense News is reporting Michèle Flournoy on the short list for SecDef.

Sarge

its a better choice that Ilhan Omar or the Commie-Czar himself

Chesty Puller would have made an excellent SecDef.
