Blue Martian sunset. (NASA)

Sunsets on earth could range in color from orange, red, or other color depending on the state of the atmosphere. On Mars? You could enjoy blue sunsets. Enjoy your weekend.

My 2nd 1st, it has been a long time.

Claw

Yes, it has been a good while. Your other WOT First occurred on 12 May 2017.

RGR 4-78

Wow.

Claw

You also came close one other time (28 Dec 18) when you and AnotherPat hit the same time mark (2:16pm), but Pat’s entry was “First”./s

26Limabeans

I’ve heard it’s much better the second time around.
Congrats and put another notch in the crown.

Commissioner Wretched

Wow … a new occupant on the FIRST Throne! I know the King of Battle will hand over the crown and scepter post haste … and while he does, maybe the rest of us can content ourselves with this week’s trivia collection! I do hope you enjoy. DID YOU KNOW…? Did games of Monopoly™ help POWs escape from Germany in World War II? By Commissioner Wretched Continuing the introduction theme of what I’m thankful for … I’m very thankful for my jobs (yes, I have more than one). My work here at the newspaper is very fulfilling, especially for someone in his dotage like me. And I love my part-time jobs in radio and as a tour guide at Wild Animal Safari. I work with wonderful people at all three! I’m also very thankful the fact that this ridiculous, screwed up year of 2020 is almost over! What are you thankful for? If you want to share your thoughts, I’m always available at didyouknowcolumn@gmail.com and I always reply. Let’s be thankful for another serving of trivia, shall we? Did you know … … singer Britney Spears (born 1981) uses an alias when traveling? Yeah, so do a lot of other celebrities. But I know what her alias is. She calls herself “Allotta Warmheart” when booking hotels, so nobody will recognize her. (Well, she did prior to this column, I’d bet.) … a person who collects post cards is called a deltiologist? (The only one I ever knew, I called “Grandpa.”) … eight people drowned in a flood of beer in England in 1814? A huge vat containing more than 135,000 gallons of beer at a brewery ruptured, causing other vats to burst, and sending a total of 320,000 gallons of the brew through the streets of London. The beer flood caused two houses to collapse and flooded the cellar homes of many poor people. Eight people drowned in the beer. The flood also damaged the wall of a nearby tavern, which was popular for selling the beer brewed at the brewery where the flood began. (Drowning in beer … what… Read more »

Among so many other things CW, we are ALL Thankful for YOU…AND this weekly column. Another fine presentation…do keep it up.

W.C. Fields not only booked rooms under pseudonyms like Clarence Q. Throttlebottom, he opened bank accounts similarly. He kept no revords, so no one knows how many orphan accounts he left scattered about – or how much money.

Ah! Comissh, you made my day with this: a blatherskite is a person who talks too much, often without making sense. An Irish pejorative, and if I knew the precise Cornish word for it, I’d add it, but this is close: penn bobba lagasek.

Always a good idea to explore the world of Other Things, isn’t it?

Happy trails to you, until we meet again!

See also:\; Gobshite: A fool, loudmouth, worthless idiot. From Irish slang. Literally: feces (shite) from the mouth (gob).

rgr769

Is that word in the dictionary? Cuz I suspect I know whose picture is next to the definition.

Ex-PH2

Good one, SFC D!

Ex-PH2

Here’s something to add to your next essay, Commish: There are (so far) over 300,000 planets in the Habitable Zones in our galaxy, per the most recent count. There may be more… and what if they are avoiding us?

There are also vast numbers of Wandering Planets with no home to go to, mostly gas giants that solar systems apparently didn’t want and ejected them. Poor things.

RGR 4-78

After the year (2020) that we have had, I don’t blame them for avoiding us.

Top 10 and not even trying… time for trivia

Graybeard

Top 15.

Sat in the deer blind a bit this morning.

Going through some old periodicals (late 1800’s early 1900’s) this afternoon.

Grandkids still think I’m FIRST among Grandpas, so there.

David

Got a bick last Mondau. Tore hell outta my front left quarter.

Skyjumper

LOL, David.

Hit a nice healthy four point buck with my brand new Jeep Cherokee (3 months old) on a early Sunday morning 4 weeks ago.

Will get it back from the body shop this coming Wednesday. $8500.00 damage. 🙁

Can’t say enough good things about USAA insurance. Phoned it in that Sunday morning; they called me Monday morning around 11:00 am; had the towing check in my checking account by 1:00 pm and had the check cut to the body shop on Wednesday morning. All I had to pay was $250.00. AND, still retained my accident forgiveness because it was an animal.

Un-freeking beliveable.

David

Similar with Hartford… hit and reported Monday, talked to agent Tuesday AM, they recommended a shop and I put it in Wednesday. Quote done Friday, parts ordered and shipped this week, in paint today. Final paint and assembly next week, elapsed time less than three weeks and the check to the body shop already cut.
Funny part – about $8/day of car rental I have to pay. Enterprise ran out of POS cheapies, so my rental (at $8 a day to me) is a BMW 330i.

I didn’t see this posted yet – Hollyanne Milley, wife of GEN Milley, saved a veteran’s life at after he passed out and wasn’t breathing at an event on Wednesday:

I’ll probably get roasted for suggesting this, but I am a curious sort and frequently look up stuff only to find other stuff that is even more cool or interesting.
I know that nobody here likes the movie “Fury” with Brad Pitt and some other decent actors, I actually think that even Shia LaBeouf gave a decent performance in the movie.
Anyway, since I’m a fan of movies that treat our Brothers and Sisters in arms with the respect they deserve I must admit that I do like “Fury”, quite a bit too.
Brad Pitt gives a good read of someone who has finally found his home and will keep working with it to kill as many Nazi SS as he possibly can.
Since I looked it up, I’ll post it here.
It’s a pretty good read and gives a lot of insight to the man that wrote the screenplay.
It didn’t happen like the movies says, but, it was one man determined to kill as many of those Nazi fucks as he could.

Good article and you have just gotta love the quip about the author:

“Mike recently underwent laser hair removal so he could stop shaving his knuckles.”

Claw…..I just sent a photo of the Mule to admin. Hopefully they will post it, so some of the old timers on this site can take a trip down memory lane.

I’m having the passenger seat and foot basket being installed this weekend!

Thanks for the link. And both the Mrs. and I liked “Fury.” We both love a good war movie.

And at the Casa de Sparky Western Annex, just waiting for the lockdown to kick in again.

Gonna be a fun winter.

Sacred to the Memory and in Honor of the Sky Soldiers of 1st Bn 7th Rgmt of the 1st AirCav Div on the Anniversary of the Battle of LZ X-Ray in the IA Drang Valley started on this date in History 1965….Slow Hand Salute!

Another shout out and Salute to the Redlegged Artillerymen of The Batteries of the 1st Bn, 21st Field Artillery that fired in support of the Trooper from LZ Falcon. During a period of 53 hours the Redlegs fired over 18,000 rounds, “…melted out a few tubes trying to keep you guys warm up there.” Col Hal Moore personally went to each gun and gave his Thanks to the crews.

Hack Stone

Do you remember Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty, who called 911 because a Lyft driver wanted her out of his vehicle? Well, the story gets better. Apparently she dialed 911 because roving gangs of white supremacists present a clear and present danger to African Americans. Love this particular quote; “When you’re living in a city where white supremacists are proudly riding around in their big trucks with their flags, and you’re a Black person, and somebody wants to put [you] on the side of the road at night — not gonna happen.” Sounds like a good reason to have law enforcement protecting the citizens, but Hack is a white heterosexual man, so his opinion should not be considered.

11B, would that “some folks” be a certain spapos seagull that has been screeing all over this website for years? You did notice the Beserkly connection?

Again, none of this surprises me one bit. Know your history, connect the dots, and follow the money. They (politicians from BOTH parties) have been plotting and planning this since Nov of -16.

The bastards may end up taking me out, but I will sell my life dearly.

Ret_25X

Two stories from last week no one connected;

1. Esper gets fired

2. Special Envoy from Syria admits that DoD and DoS have been lying to the President about troop numbers in Syria.

The speculation on Esper has been very quiet in the media, but it may be that the lying led to the firing.

Apparently, their version of obeying orders differs significantly from the norm.

So the President moves to draw down forces and get us out of a pissant’s war, our dedicated career government employees work to deceive him so that they can run their own foreign policy.

This, in a nutshell, is the swamp.
