Obama: Keep those stinkin’ tourists away from me
Rurick emailed me this link to a Big Hollywood story about the State Department demanding that France keep those pesky tour buses away from the Normandy landing memorials while he’s there next month. You know, those tour buses that might contain actual veterans of the conflict who don’t have that many visits left in ’em. Well, I had some thoughts on it, but Deebow at Blackfive did a much better job than I could have done. But I’d add this from the Big Hollywood story;
Compare that with 2004. Security was tight as President Bush and other world leaders were in attendance, but the event was still open to all. A friend relayed the story of waiting in line to use a port-a-potty (a French port-a-potty no doubt, yuck, believe me.) She looks to her left and who he is in the next line waiting patiently? President Bush. Sure he had Secret Service nearby, but he waited like everyone else.
Some of us miss President Bush – but I will enjoy the excuses the Obama crew make up for this one. Completely blog-worthy, I’m sure.

That reminded me of Mech Week at ANCOC (coincidentally at Fort Benning, too) when I tried to warn the SF and Rangers in my squad that reading a map from a moving M113 is different than when they’re on their feet. They laughed me off and told me to get my mech ass in the track and let the pros do the map reading. After driving in circles for an hour, they finally handed me the map.

Thanks for this, Jonn. Lines and sentiments like these are what keep me coming back to military blogs and put a smile on my face knowing that there are others out there who feel just like me.
Read about this yesterday and emailed the French Consulate in Chicago to urge their government to give Obama and the State Department a resounding NO to their request. This is an important day for the men who were there as many are too old to make another trip there. All are in their 80’s now. Those men earned the right to be there and are better men than Obama will ever be.
Maybe BHO is afraid of someone messing with his “impromptu” pile of rocks that he will fashion in the shape of a cross ala William Jefferson Clinton….
I have checked every source you cite and all the sources they cite and every single one of them is circular. You all cite each other but there is not a single credible source for the claim that the administration has made this request of France. I call BS on this claim unless someone can provide credible evidence for it.

While I have to give a nod to Greg as to source for this story, I also have to look at the track record of the current resident of the Whitehouse. It would not surprise me if this were true, since this President has taken every opportunity he can to shit on Vets and our current warriors. Oh sure, he backtracks when there is enough outrage, however, we, at least I, won’t forget the dissing of the wounded warriors in Germany when he was on his world love tour last Summer, the snub of the MOH recipients at the Heroes Innaugural Ball, the debacle of the third party insurance crappola, or the DHS report. So, this would be in keeping with his MO (that’s modus operandi for those on the left) towards Vets. He’s a narcissist, so it always has to be about him, so we can’t have the real heroes taking any of the spotlight away.
