Air Force vet quits Food Lion job after being told his American Flag COVID mask offended someone
Thanks to the KoB for the tip. Fox News reports;
A 69-year-old Air Force veteran said he quit his North Carolina supermarket job because his manager told him to stop wearing a face mask printed with an American flag.
Gary Dean, of Havelock, N.C., worked at the local Food Lion until Tuesday, when he was told he had to ditch the flag mask because someone had complained.
That left him with just one choice. “I had to quit, out of principle,” he said.
He praised his co-workers and bosses at the store he worked, but he wrote on Facebook that
I still believe I did the right thing by prioritizing the flag over the paycheck and will always take a stand against those who try to burn, stomp, or otherwise deface, [mar], or show intentional disrespect for our flag.

That’s not going to end well for that Food Lion. The people have had enough of that shit. Even that 2-faced, sorry-assed wannbe racecar driver Darrell Wallace, Jr has an American Flag mask.
does not sound true- im a Biden worker and love flag face mask, this is BS
Not that I would make a mask out of the American Flag, just as I think that a swimsuit bottom is kinda disrespectful, I have to admire the AF Vet for standing on his principle. If seeing someone exercise their right of free display of the US Flag offends you, then why don’t you just leave this Country? Are we the United States of the Offended now? Yet we can’t show any offense over having War Memorials Destroyed, or the glorification of hoodlums that did stoopid stuff that got their dumbasses killed?
Having supposed racial inequality shoved in my face on a daily basis when I have done nothing that would be offensive is offensive to me. Yet I have not run whining to the Manager, looted a store, set fire to a car lot or pulled down a statue. I see this kinda stuff on news feeds everyday; I snagged this one because it was in reference to a Veteran.
There was another story out there of a black female who was offended because a white female on the airplane was wearing a Blue Lives Matter mask. Delta upgraded the black females ticket to FIRST (ht to CW) Class (both ways) AND gave her a goody bag of Delta branded gedunks. Black female was on her way from the “protests” in Wisconsin to the March in Washington.
Ah, the “woke” bootlicking corporation hoping Leftists will nationalize them last.
It’s called “social responsibility” in the corporate world…
Bezos still has people hating Amazon and setting up guillotines on his front yard, so CSR really means a whole lot.
KoB, I’m actually less upset with Delta than Food Lion. While what they did is bullshit, and will only encourage such bad behavior, I’d bet that the complainer was being a loud, ignorant jackass (as evidenced by her travelling from one riot to another), and they made the best business decision they could to “keep the peace” on the flight. The alternative would have been to have dealt with her likely escalating stupidity, quite possibly moving to violence in the confines of an airplane for the duration of the flight. Of course they could have met her with police upon landing, but the damage during the flight would have been down, not to mention the communist insurrectionists attacking them on social media and such for it..
Food lion on the other hand allowed one hateful POS to force a Vet to quit his job over ans American flag. If they had supported the employee, it likely would have pissed off the whiner, but nothing else, so they did it because they agreed with the POS.. They deserve all the scorn they can get over such actions.
Agree 100% Brother Fyr. Had several of their stores down here until a little while back. Harvey’s bought some, some were closed when they were bought out by the Dutchies. Have traded with them in the past, until their stores went to hell in a hand basket. There aren’t any at all in my AO now. The profit margins in the grocery business are razor thin to begin with, and unless you are the only game in town, you’d best not piss off any large segment of your market base. Do most of my provision gathering at the K Roger, Publix is here, but nowhere near as dominating as they are in Floruduh. And they are rather spendy, comparadly. Got a small franchised Piggly Wiggly (The FIRST (ht 2 CW) self service grocery store) down the street do some with them. Who remembers the Colonial and A&P Stores? Winn/Dixie has taken a big hit and the Ingles is regional.
Delta has had that whole woke/SJW for a long time, longer than it has been an in thing for every corporate hack to jump on. Believe that comes from their HQs having been in the ATL for all of these decades and having to cow-tow to the City of Atlanta and their ownership of the Airport there. No telling how many millions have been shaken out of Delta Corporate AND their executives over the years by the grifting politicians of Atlanta GA. In spite of that, I still fly Delta. They do a good job of getting you, safely, from point A 2 B, and I have personal friends that are mechanics and “Flight Attendants.”
I shake my head on a daily basis over the BS that all of this woke/SJW has brought down on the Country.
Apparently not the first episode with Food Lion employees quiting after being told “American Flag” is offensive….

“There are a number of policies that guide Food Lion associate attire and conduct in the workplace, including our dress code and solicitation policies, among others. We do not provide our policies or internal communications to non Food-Lion employees.”
What’s the issue with providing the medial with a copy of your dress code? Sounds like they are hiding something or embarrassed about the whole mess.
Bet’cha they don’t SHARE their policy because they don’t HAVE a policy.
It’s all ad hoc made-up-on-the-spot because………..
Double-secret probation… can’t tell ya or it wouldn’t be secret, or something.
Havelock is home to MCAS Cherry Point, so I wonder if the “offended party” either draws a paycheck from Uncle Sam or is related to someone who does.
Probably had his wife leave him for a 22 year old Corporal. Hack has a theory of why Paul of the Ballsack had such disdain for the US Military. Much like a young Bruce Wayne witnessing his parents murdered by street hoodlums, Paul probably was out for a night on the town with his parents when he saw his Mother giving a “come hither look” to one of the many GI’s roaming the streets of Bethesda.
Having spent far too much time stationed there and at Lejuenne, I’m going with yes.
Food Lion is owned by a Dutch-Belgian Euro conglomerate which couldn’t care less about American patriotism or values, and this attitude is obviously reflected all the way up and down the Food Lion management chain. I have never shopped at Food Lion, and have no future plans to do so…
The same thing happened to Budweiser after it was bought out by a European conglomerate; Bud stopped all marketing that could be seen as patriotic and hopped onto the SJW Wokey Bandwagon…
OMG, Euroweenies are taking over America!!!
Drink Yuengling, you’ll be alright. See, another reason not to drink that swill you seem to favor (besides the obvious one…that it’s SWILL!)
🤣🍺
Seriously, try Yuengling Golden Pilsner, it might be more your speed instead of the Lager.
I’m a fan of Yvengling Black and Tan, *OOPS!* did I just culturally appropriate? Oh well, if anyone is offended, just SUE ME and if you get anything, I’ll split it with you, mighty liberal of me, ain’t it?
How about Sam Adams beer? Is that still being made?
Yes it is, though they’ve pulled some of thee SJZ bullshit lately.

And they did a beer for RBG as well.. sad, they are a pretty decent beer.
Anyone else think that the deification of RBG is really, really weird?
Never been to a food lyin.
Never seen one either.
I feel “left” out.
Ghetto Kitty is often over-rated
Food Lyin operates mainly in the southeastern and mid-Atlantic states. Other than being SJW Woke hucksters, Food Lyin is most well-known for being caught by FDA trying to sell spoiled rotten meat to customers a few years back. If you don’t have any Food Lyin stores near you, count yourself lucky…
I live in Utah. I’m lucky.
I got a tip for everyone: Beer makes you smart, because after all it made Bud Wiser.
Actually Bud still does summer promotions for the military and such.
Now if you can get to one of a couple dozen counties in Pennsylvania where its sold, pick up some Straubs made in St Marys PA. I’m down to my last five so I’m rationing them for special occasions.
USAFRetired, had to laugh when I read about you liking Straubs.
Straub in German means literally means “one with bushy or bristly hair”. Its original meaning in Middle High German is “rough” or “unkempt”. (grin)
https://straubbeer.com/
my German is limited to Ein biere bitte with a thumb stuck up in the air.
Peter Straub was born on June 28, 1850 in Felldorf, Wuerttemburg, Germany, to Anton and Anna M. Eger Straub.
As a teenager, Peter was educated and worked as a cooper, which is a craftsman skilled in making and repairing wooden barrels and casks. He also became well versed in the allied trade of Brewing.
Peter honed his trade in Germany, France and Switzerland. At age 19 (in 1869), Peter Straub traveled to the United States and settled in Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, working at the Eberhardt and Ober Brewing Company. He next moved to Brookville and worked at the Christ and Allegeier Brewery. He again moved to Allegheny City and then to McKeesport and Centerville (later renamed Kersey). In 1872, Peter settled in St. Marys.
In St. Marys, Peter first worked at the Windfelder Brewery, which later became the Luhr Brewery, on Center Street. In the early 1870s, Peter was hired by Francis Sorg as brewmaster and manager for his brewery.
The standard Straub Brewery founding date of 1872 reflects when Peter first moved to St. Marys and began brewing. He did not own the brewery until 1878.
Drink local, support your local brewery.
I do.
Recycling beers cans is proving to be a profitable business.
So is growler trading!
Well, at least, that explains why you could get kick-ass Belgian chocolate off the shelf that tastes just like Côte d’Or at about 1/2 the price there. Plus Dutch beer.
Nowadays, I wouldn’t drink a Buttwiper on a bet. Worst beer ever. After a couple of years in Germany, I thought Buttwiper tasted like carbonated water with a slight hop flavor. Of course, that was in Utah, where all beer then was limited to 3.2 percent alcohol.
If it weren’t for being a kiss-ass “corporate” would have no principles at all.
The correct response is, “Your offense offends me.”
Or, “Nobody cares what offends you.” Or any variation which conveys the message that the offended party is not the center of the universe.
Or “F*ck your feelings, beyatch!”
I’ve never been to one
My wife went to one while we were visiting

She did not like the layout
And thought the cashier was a bitch
This is probably the reason why

Apparently Food Lion is owned by a company of Delhaize America, a U.S. division of Zaandam-based Royal Ahold Delhaize Group in Netherlands.
They also own, here in the U.S.; Giant, Giant Food, Hanaford and Stop & Shop stores.
Food Lion, based in Salisbury, N.C., since 1957, operates more than 1100 grocery stores in 10 Southeastern and Mid-Atlantic states.
Phuque them!!

“It’s now very common to hear people say, ‘I’m rather offended by that.’ As if that gives them certain rights. It’s actually nothing more… than a whine. ‘I find that offensive.’ It has no meaning; it has no purpose; it has no reason to be respected as a phrase. ‘I am offended by that.’
Well, so fucking what?” — Stephen Fry
I called them up and told them they were a bunch of assclownical losers.
The dude said something not so nice and hung up the phone.
