Suspect dead, police officer wounded in Tempe shooting

Karen Bartunek
A suspect was killed and an officer was hospitalized after an exchange of gunfire involving Tempe police officers Friday night, according to the Tempe Police Department.

“It’s been a difficult night for our department. One of our officers has been shot, and he is in the hospital being treated as we speak,” said Officer Jessica Ells, Tempe police spokesperson, at a press briefing.

The shooting occurred near Rural and Baseline roads. Ells said shortly after 6 p.m., officers spotted the 32-year-old suspect at a Circle K gas station and recognized him as having an active felony warrant pertaining to drug dealing.

When officers approached the man in his vehicle, he fled. “Our officers pursued the suspect,” Ells said.

When officers caught up, he got out of his vehicle, and officers followed suit. The man then began “firing at our officers, striking one in the leg,” she said.

Officers returned fire, fatally wounding the man.

Gunfight with Houston police sends teen to hospital

HOUSTON – A teenager was sent to the hospital Thursday night after getting into a brief gunfight with Houston police.

It happened a little before 9:45 p.m. when HPD Chief Noe Diaz said during a news conference, that officers saw what they believed to be a hand-to-hand drug deal on Liberty Road off the Eastex Freeway.

When the cops in their patrol car came up to the two young men, Chief Diaz said they started walking away. Police got out of their car and told them to stop, but they started walking away faster, and that’s when one of the officers reportedly noticed a gun in one of the young men’s waistbands.

One of the officers was able to grab and detain the armed young man, identified only as a teenager between 15 and 16-years-old. After a brief struggle, Chief Diaz said the teen got away and while running, turned and shot at the officers. Chief Diaz said his officers fired back, hitting the teen twice in the “upper torso.”

The other person seen in the drug deal managed to escape while officers tended to the teenager’s wounds and secured his weapon.

[…] This ain’t Hell… has your feel good stories. And stupid people of the week. […]

The Pirate’s Cove

Trifecta of teh stoopid. The moral of these three (3) stories is “Don’t shoot at cops!” They shoot back. Mr. Morales certainly learned a lesson. Too bad for him, and the other DRT that it came too late. Mostly peaceful protests for the young lad that had his business dealings interrupted by the raaayciss popo in 5.4.3.2..

You have certainly outdid yourself on the fugly gun pr0n, Big Guy. Haven’t seen something that fugly since yesterday afternoon/evening that took place during a gridiron competition. Not that the Kay-Dettes made much of a competition out of it.

(soft mood music) “Got a Lady in Red at the back of my head but the woman in white is you…” (ht2 KR) My, my, my & Goodness Gracious I think that there are brickhouses that are pea green with envy that they are not as well constructed as this here Ms Thang. Always liked that “off the shoulder, built in boulder holder look”. That “come hither look” is her telling me to “get them britches off and do you duty!” *sigh*
