True story: A few years ago, my in-laws were coming back from the company Christmas party. It was late in the evening, they’d had a good time, and were contentedly driving in silence.
Suddenly my mother-in-law says, “I don’t know how to say this.”
My father-in-law’s heart stopped. He waited for her to finish, but there was an agonizing pause before she said, “Do you know?”
“Know what?” he managed to get out.
“How to say that company’s name.” She pointed back to the place they just passed that had been recently acquired by a Japanese company. “Sek-a…. how do you say that?”
It’s a good thing my father-in-law’s heart was in such good condition, or we would have lost him in that moment!
