Donald Trump requests military protection
Trump’s presidential campaign requested military assets, aircraft and vehicles, to protect Donald Trump during the balance of the campaign. This latest request was advanced after two assassination attempts against him; however, Trump is not out of the woods. US intelligence officials briefed him on Iran’s threat to have him assassinated. Joe Biden stated that he authorized increased protection for Trump as if he were a sitting president.

The request follows two recent assassination attempts against the Republican presidential candidate. It also comes after Trump’s campaign last month said he had been briefed by U.S. intelligence officials on alleged threats from Iran to assassinate him.
A representative for the U.S. Secret Service, which is charged with protecting presidential candidates, said “the former president is receiving the highest levels of protection” but confirmed the Trump campaign had requested more.
“The Secret Service will remain vigilant and continue to adjust and enhance its protective posture as needed to mitigate evolving threats,” the representative said.
U.S. President Joe Biden, speaking to reporters, said he has authorized security to protect Trump as if he were a sitting president, and if Trump’s request falls in that category it should be granted.
Representatives for Trump’s campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
According to the New York Times, Trump’s campaign has been in contact with White House chief of staff Jeff Zients and acting Secret Service Ronald Rowe asking for military assets to protect the Republican candidate, who is facing U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris in the Nov. 5 presidential election.

Many LE agencies have hiring standards that amount to “never done bad, ever”.
Like all good intentions, this is well grounded. Who wants to hire identified criminals and give them authority to use deadly force to enforce the laws of the state? Nobody with a brain.
Problem is, when you look at applicant populations, who’s more likely to have never had even a single traffic ticket in their life?
A recent college grad?
Or an enlistee with three PCSs, three below-zone promotions, and led troops overseas?
Also. Who has the easier background investigation to complete?
The applicant from Anytown, who graduated Anytown High, worked at Local Job, and got a degree from Slightlybiggertown U? All in the same area code?
Or the applicant from one state, who completed OSUT in another state, went to their first duty station in yet another state (if not OCONUS), then spent two years cumulative assigned or attached to different units and supervisory chains overseas. Good luck working that BI with an overworked adjudicator.
It’s not that USSS doesn’t want, per se, the special operations guys. It’s that those folks are harder to investigate and easier to disqualify and like any good bureaucracy, as long as the proper boxes are checked and the procedures are followed then when an assassination nearly succeeds everyone can point and say “hey, I followed the rules!”.

They redrew Congressional district boundaries a couple years ago and gave me Budzinski from Springfield area. Mike Bosts district was redrawn to Southern Illinois. Think Mt. Vernon and South. While Bost always sent out newsletters, they were mostly for a new school library or volunteer fire dept opening or expansion. I held my nose when voting for him.

The day Vance was announced, I breathed a sigh of relief. I pray, daily, I’m wrong but I will be surprised if Trump is allowed to stay on this side of the veil long enough to win, and if he does win, that he will be allowed to take office. I, too, really think his odds of making it to election day have improved because otherwise, it will be eight years if not more before the Dems hold the WH, Senate or House.
