Command Chief Master Sgt. Jose Barraza to be court martialed
David sends us a link to Military.com which reports that Air Force Command Chief Master Sergeant Jose Barraza is headed for a court martial on seventeen charges, including two charges of sexual misconduct after an Article 32 investigation (think grand jury). When we first talked about last April he was looking at fifteen violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice, the two sexual misconduct charges were added in May.
The original charges include one specification for willfully disobeying an order, seven specifications for dereliction of duty, two specifications for making false official statements, and five specifications for obstruction of justice in violation of UCMJ Articles 90, 92, 107 and 134 respectively, according to a statement from the command.
Col. Scott C. Campbell, commander of the 355th Fighter Wing, preferred the charges March 30 and May 18. Barraza was removed from his position in November due to “loss of confidence in his ability to carry out his duties,” the Air Force said at the time.
As I wrote in April “By all accounts, Barraza was a model airman, rising from the mean streets of LA an gang roots to a top NCO in the Air Force.”

So then, the question is “what gives”?
LA gang roots, evidently, run deep.
…If My Beloved Service is taking a Chief like this to a court martial, then they have some serious dirt on this dude. Stay tuned….
Agreed. You looking to shoot a big target you better have a big gun.
My God…..if true? He’s done and again if true – I say screw him.
Let’s see all of the evidence.
Well Said CB Senior.
Will they riot and burn the Class-6 down?
Oh, I totally down for that.
Well, if a SEAL can make porn movies with out consequences
I am thinking this has something to do with minors
I wouldn’t say there are no consequences unless you know something we don’t. Wasn’t he still under investigation in April, or is there more to the story?
That was for going bankrupt and other financial shenanigans
Huh? Every article I read clearly indicated he was being investigated for moonlighting as an adult film star without permission and for engaging in conduct that discredits the service.
Knocking down porn stars at home
Knocking down Hadji in the sandbox
What’s the downside? He should get a promotion for living the dream
Hard to argue with this one. I can’t say I’m mad at him, I am rather impressed and a little envious.
Pimps are people too. Don’t hate the Player, pimps don’t create hoes, those two were probably hoe’s before he met them.
Thinking ousted the box used to be a good thing.
my bad Dave, i reported your comment by mistake. sorry. was going to say now will they take away his pimp cup if found guilty. it was funnier before my boo boo. It was because of my PTS, sorry
So as I can figure, the Air Force took him in with a rap sheet, he got security clearances with a rap sheet….he made nine quite probably with other “breaks” to become a high profile poster boy….time to flush this affirmative action bozo back to the barrio…maybe his old gang will give him a senior citizen reduced membership rate…
Similar occurrence with toxic female leaders. They’re given another chance and another because they are female and no one wants to fire them. I have such experience with two prior female commanders. Rotten to the core, hypocritical, and toxic, but given another chance and another and another.
Been there, seen that. Now that Women are getting into combat units it’ll get worse.
Yup!
And yet, if he was a Flag officer, they’d probably take away 1-star from him and make him retire.
This is fairly disturbing all the same. All he’s done is make anyone else who’s lived a tough life early on like they aren’t worth the trouble. Horrible example of scumbaggery.
He likely caught the PTSD from a toilet seat, not his fault.
Retired LES will say NPD for life. Oh, Well.
and another “model” turns out to be…well…not so much…
Throughout my career, I cringed when someone was introduced as a “model” soldier.
This label often applies only to appearances.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with Mormans, and they were consistently “model”. Some had trouble passing the poly because they were too clean and the polygrapher thought they were gaming the machine…
“Model” here refers to the concept of the Sr Enlisted who is a “perfect embodiment”. This almost always means in an administrative sense or garritrooper sense.
They score max PT scores, great behavior in schools, several degrees, etc. While some “model” soldiers are great, my experience over my 30 years is that when seniors speak of “model” this is what they are referring to.
None of our heroes from history would be referred to in this way. Perhaps it our concept of the “model” that is flawed?
As for Mormon soldiers. The one I worked with as an interpreter was worse than useless. A clean living person, no doubt, but useless on the battlefield. After all, isn’t tactical proficiency the ultimate model?
But then, I never expected behavioral perfection from my troopers…..
“I’d like to have two armies: one for display with lovely guns, tanks, little soldiers, staffs, distinguished and doddering Generals, and dear little regimental officers who would be deeply concerned over their General’s bowel movements or their Colonel’s piles, an army that would be shown for a modest fee on every fairground in the country.
The other would be the real one, composed entirely of young enthusiasts in camouflage uniforms, who would not be put on display, but from whom impossible efforts would be demanded and to whom all sorts of tricks would be taught. That’s the army in which I should like to fight.”

Bill Mauldin, in Up Front told the story of one outfit which had two sets of NCOs. The first was for when they were in the line. When they were pulled back, this set lined up to get busted, while the other set (very good at the mickey mouse stuff) was promoted to keep the outfit out of trouble.
As Curtis Sliwa of the NY Guardian Angels used to say-Keep your rocket in your pocket.
I will be interested to read the paperwork when it is released. Looks like OSI had this guy under eyes for awhile given all those charges.
There is a facebook comment to this article that states:
“Whatever happens to Command Chief Master Sergeant Jose Barraza I believe he should retain his time in grade retirement pay – he earned it”
Sorry, but there isn’t an automatic pass for making rank, or even for being outstanding in 99.999% of your duties if you screw up bad enough.
I trust that his service will be taken into consideration and he will get a fair trail.
He could be admonished and simply retired at grade.
If he really screwed the pooch he could be slammed. If hes guilty of some wicked shit than fuck em’.
