Command Chief Master Sgt. Jose A. Barraza charged
Bobo sent us a link to the Stars & Stripes in regards to Command Chief Master Sgt. Jose A. Barraza who was charged with 15 violations of the Uniform Code of Military Justice;
The Air Force would not specify what generated the charges but said they were tied to Barraza’s time as the top noncommissioned officer at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona. The base is home to the Boneyard, where preserved and retired aircraft are stored, and a sizable fleet of active A-10 aircraft.
By all accounts, Barraza was a model airman, rising from the mean streets of LA an gang roots to a top NCO in the Air Force.
According to John Q. Public;
AFSOUTH Commander Lt. Gen. Mark Kelly removed Chief Master Sgt. Jose Barraza Nov. 23 due to a “loss of confidence in his ability to carry out his duties,” AFSOUTH reported in November.
According to the release dated March 30, the 355th Fighter Wing commander preferred charges against Barraza. The charges are the result of an ongoing investigation conducted by the Air Force Office of Special Investigations.
Barraza is charged with one specification for willfully disobeying an order, seven specifications for dereliction of duty, two specifications for making false official statements and five specifications for obstruction of justice in violation of UCMJ Articles 90, 92, 107 and 134 respectively. The 355th Fighter Wing Commander, Col. Scott C. Campbell, preferred the specifications.
A preliminary hearing has not yet been scheduled.

It’s rarely about the crime so much as the cover up.
I really do hate to see what appears to be military success stories and people that have gone so far screw it all by doing stupid things. They do it to themselves so I have little pity, but it seems like such a waste.
Not sure what gets into people’s heads sometimes.
Of “People’s heads”; how long until we see someone else’s head photoshopped on this photo?
That’s funny as shit!
Ironic because it will eventually happen.
Like Greek theatre, we need to use smileys to differentiate humor, sarchasm, and tragedy
What the hell? His eyebrows are so far up his brain housing group he could start a new eyebrow hair club for men. Just pommade those sumbitches backwards and you’ve got the 00’s version of a comb over…its now a comb back…..
He looks to be raising his eyebrows in response to something.
Your would look similar I’d caught in a picture in the same moment.
A Hobo Biscuit Commissar Lars~
I would recommend that you go back to Berkeley and take a “How to Determine Sarcasm” class before you respond to my posts because it is painfully obvious that you don’t know how to tell the difference.
Fruit Tart.
Glad to see your boiler’s lit, Toasty. Give ’em hell.
I’m in my third glass of wine so here goes…after seeing his bemusing posts over the months, I figured he was the alter ego of one of our regular contributors provided for comic relief…if not, he’s calling it a day and putting on a show for visiting Swedish fags Sven and Bjorn in his Casto flat…rocking down to some ABBA “Dancing queen””
Lars was tragically born without a sense of humor.
Decidedly lacking a sense of reality, too.
He has no empiric data concerning humor…
Bravo!
However, I would like to shorten my earlier statement to “Lars was tragically born.”
Lars you have obviously made love to this Airman and are trying an attempt at a closet defense of him.
Blah blah garbedly gook blush blah pfffftttt. STFU!
Just kidding. I should probably report my own comment before Lars reads it and misses the well meaning banter.
Here is an article on the bias, implicit or explicit, that can be behind a choice of a photograph:

Must be a conspiracy of great proportions b/c his official USAF photo also shows his eyebrows closer to his pate than his nose. Not that I give a shit but it was an opportunity to spotlight Lars being wrong, again.
“…. opportunity to spotlight Lars being wrong, still.”
There. Fixed it for ya. Yer welcome.
Sounds like he won’t be authorized the REMF Device on that retirement Legion Of Merit that’s looming in the very near future.
“the REMF Device”
That’s awesome. . .
Thanks. (smile)

Another one bites the dust? What is it with these guys? They get all the way to the top and they screw themselves, for what?
It sounds like we have yet to hear The Rest of the Story.
It may be nothing more than making an honest mistake, but panicking and then trying to cover it up.
In the political culture of the military over the last 8 years, he may have been afraid that an honest mistake would bite him even if he confessed and tried to make it right.
It is also possible that he shot himself in the foot with stouped.
And either didn’t have a significant enough campaign donation to the DNC or Obama’s campaign, OR had a big one and now that Hillary isn’t president his protection left the building.
Oh so many possibilities.
This can’t be. He’s Mr. Sunshine, the Pollyanna of EMs. He was a gang member as a youngster. Says he was shot five different times. Was arrested and did time for stabbing a rival. Has full-back tats and his arms are covered with them. But the USAF saved him. I’m so glad.
I’m thinking he brought more than the tats from the barrio…and cynical as I am, suspect the PC Air Force looked the other way and propelled him into the top ranks where his bs couldn’t avoid scrutiny…and I’m also thinking he must have committed some pretty shitty stuff that couldn’t be dealt with out of the limelight…this was one of their public relations success stories after all…I’m also wondering how with his checkered did he get a security clearance. I would think he was at least cleared for secret sometime in his career., quite possibly higher as he rose in rank and acquired “need to know”. Yeah, let him have his day in court and hopefully we’ll find out more
Who knows what this guy did? I will wait until the facts come out before I condemn him? I hope it was just an honest mistake? I hope so anyway, I hate to see a good career shot down the shitter!
15 UCMJ violations would generally take some effort and forethought to accomplish, that’s not exactly an accident.
Yes, you don’t sack your golden boy for no good reason
Yeah, 1-2 violations with charges is an honest mistake. This was an initial mistake with further efforts to hide and/or disregard initial mistake and make more mistakes.
After those further mistakes he was ordered to stop making further mistakes and disregarded said order to make even further mistakes. In his position he might very well have told his boss Fuck Off literally or figuratively, but more likely literally.
Further further situation, someone higher up above his chain found out about one of the mistakes. Most likely, that was done by someone who worked at the base and didn’t like him for whatever reason. They dimed him out to higher higher who had to then investigate because of it, then found all the mistakes that were being made and further mistakes after the mistake and mistakes and required his removal and charging.
Not me. I am declaring him guilty. It’s the rage around here lately. Honest mistake? He must have made one a day for two weeks.
I got 5 bucks that says it all started with a catastrophic zipper failure.
“seven specifications for dereliction of duty, two specifications for making false official statements and five specifications for obstruction of justice.” No, I don’t see kissy kissy here. I do see are one or more bad acts followed by lies. He stuck to the street code: once you have a story, never, ever waiver from it, regardless of how many holes are poked in it.
I concur, adultery wasn’t specified and it would’ve been specified if he had.
2/17 AirCav, can you, with your wisdom of decades, explain to me what is in the drinking water that is resulting in all these senior NCOs and Officers trash their careers just about the time they’re hitting the top?
I’m just trying to understand here.
With all the dustup over RDML Losey…looks like maybe another 1 star GO getting too big for his bitches…
https://www.jqpublicblog.com/torpedo-general-takes-aim-wrong-target/
Yea, that’s a real unbiased article right there. This is why we have leadership afraid to do fuckall….too much rumor and gossip.
Sorry, The entire article is so biased it stinks and shouldn’t see the light of day.
Brig Gen Shapland spoke at a summit in front of possibly several hundred attendees when he made his “threat”. The author reportedly contacted Air Force PR folks who didn’t exactly deny the general’s comments.
The author also reported on former ACC vice commander Maj Gen James Post. He got canned & retired for accusing officers who were advocates of keeping the A-10 Warthogs in service of “committing treason” during his address at a conference in Nellis AFB.
Plus, it’s not an article… Clearly an editorial.
Even worse to base a smear on. I could find nothing in Google (my fu isn’t that great admittedly)about the good general being charged or even investigated. Not that he isn’t but it seems to me an editorial from a guy who brags about bringing down Generals and calling them the names he did ought to at least trigger a “lets let this play out a bit” reaction before we keel haul the guy (or whatever airdales do). I also frankly kind of agree with his sentiment if not his methods (assuming the editorial has some truth to it).
Holy crap.
From what I read, there are about 2500 E-9s just in the Air Force. About 3300 in the Army.
I would say that the few who get spanked for heavy shit do make the rest look bad, but most especially when the others cover for them when there are big bad things happen.
Hate to say it, but…charge preferred in Nov and still no date? 120 days son, RCM 707, time is closing. My guess is he pissed someone off, and they didn’t like it. Since it was November, I’d hypothesize Election Statements. Contrary to Command,,,Now they have to let the dog die on the Courthouse steps. More dumb s&*(^ lawyers. God knows we’ve got a surplus. I could also be way off.
No, I think the charges are more recent but he was relieved for the one-size-fits-all “loss of confidence” back in November.
I’m guessing that it’s a case of “you cant take a punk from the streets, but you can’t take the streets from a punk.”
I’ve been wrong before, just a guess.
It doesn’t look good, but if nothing else, the CMSgt deserves (and is legally afforded) the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise. Yet, the old “where there is smoke there’s fire” mantra keeps coming to mind.
That’s true, in a court of law. But this ain’t that. I love that presumption of innocence stuff. You are walking down the street one day and are arrested. You are presumed innocent. You are handcuffed, booked, strip searched, you are relieved of your personal possessions, and placed in a lockup. You are presumed innocent. You use your one phone call to telephone a loved one and ask that she call your job to let the boss know you won’t be back from lunch. You are, however. presumed innocent. After a few hours, it being a weekday, you get cuffed and taken before a judge or magistrate where, among other things, bail is set. You don’t have the bail money. Your loved one arrives at the lockup, learns the bail amt and visits a bondsman. Your bail is arranged and one of the stipulations is that you contact the bondsman weekly. Although you are presumed innocent, you are out the bail fee and must check-in or risk being snatched up and returned to jail. But you’re lucky. Had this been a weekend or, worse, a holiday weekend, you might have sat in jail for days. At least you’re out. You take the next day off work to visit an atty who, for a cool 5K, agrees to take your case, appeal extra. You are, of course, presumed innocent. The next day, your mugshot and the charge lodged against you appear in the local paper. A website has grabbed the mugshot and, for $250, will remove it from their database. You are, of course, presumed innocent. Your trial date comes and the state requests a postponement, which is granted. Months inch by and you return to court. A deal is offered to you, through your atty. “No dice, you say. I am innocent.” And so you are. Your friends and neighbors all know about your arrest. Your co-workers eye you suspiciously, despite the presumption of innocence. Ultimately, you are found not guilty. You, the innocent man, are out much more than the $6000 or so it cost you thus far. Being… Read more »
Fully agree with all you said 2/17, with this caveat. Arrest, detention, bail, attorneys fees etc are only a deterrent to John Q citizen who has something to lose like a job, house, family. To the career dirt bag, it’s no big deal. They go to lock-up where they usually have friends, get 3 hots and a cot, nurse comes by 2-3 times a day to pass meds and listen to their complaints, they can work out and network with other scum and they get a court appointed atty! As I used to hear all the time when I hooked them up, “going to jail is no big deal, everyone I know goes to jail once in a while.”
Absolutely. For some elements in our society, you ain’t shit until you been locked up and maybe have your own probation officer. Nice.
Ya gots to be on a first-name basis with your Parole or Probation officer to be shit, man.
This day and age, with all the social media, your reputation can be ruined without law enforcement having anything to do with it.
Anyone who has dealt with the dog-turd Butt-blast disbarred and disgraced ex-lawer in Florida can attest to how he will set out to ruin reputations.
Dozens of letters and emails to local businesses and officials and friends accusing people of child pron, theft, training terrorists, etc.
Anonymity is your friend. Some folks foolishly mistake common sense for cowardice.
Feel the Bern, commie.
Or only discover that fact when they realize, “Holy sh!t – my friends and acquaintances can see what I say here too! Maybe they’ll be pissed at me!”
No argument that getting charged sucks on a number of levels. I (personally) just try to withhold judgment until the facts are in. Obviously, the Internet, social media, nosy neighbors, etc., don’t care about facts. They just want dirt.
And you are wise to do so. Just keep in mind that not guilty and innocent aren’t the same thing too often. Best example? OJ Simpson. My point is that with sufficient, reliable information, one can conclude another guilty w/o regard to courtroom proceedings and trial results.
Fritz Hollings said the same thing more or less in a confirmation hearing.
Speaking of OJ I Met a gentleman today who was a retired attorney ( his specialty was working class- action suits against companies that misrepresented their worth to investors,,( yes ENRON).
He was raised in Dana Point Orange County and knew Nicole Brown-Simpson and her family as his sister and Her sister were High School friends.
He had met OJ on a few occasions and he said what really stood out is that OJ is incredibly stupid.
I also told him about Bernath. He was amazed that someone like him had kept a license that that long
It would likely shock you due to your fascination with the topic but the vast majority of people who get arrested don’t get strip searched. And the whole “walking down the street one day” implying obliviousness and innocence to whatever is happening is so rare it is the stuff of legendary lawsuits and major media attention when it does happen. Your chances of winning the lotto are likely better.
I see that you’re still sore about being caught bullshitting the other day when you claimed to have known multiple women who were killed in combat. Your post above is also mistaken on a number of points. First, I am rarely shocked but am sometimes surprised. Second, what you term my fascination with “the topic” is borne of my experience and interest. Third, I did not believe it necessary to provide a reason for the arrest and, in spotlighting that, you missed the entire point of the exercise. But, thanks for playing and, next time, do try much harder “The Old Maj”– if you are able.
In the famous words, you can beat the rap but not the ride.
On a completely different subject: does anyone have a clue what the highest-precedence medal this guy is wearing might be? Shape’s wrong to be the Airman’s Medal, and the colors seem wrong to be anything else higher in precedence than the MSM (the colors aren’t that good a match to those on the Airman’s Medal, either).
This one has me stumped.
His bio says the Airmans Medal is his highest award
His official bio says he is the recipient of the Airman’s Medal and the ribbon he wears matches, but what that full sized medal is, I don’t know either.
It’s just plain weird looking.
It’s the Airman’s Medal. The colors didn’t didn’t transfer well in this photo.
If that’s the case, then there are other issues with the photo besides false color.
The Airman’s Medal is round. The one he’s wearing as his highest decoration appears to be cruciform with a round center.
I’d agree with you if the medal appeared to be round.
