Officials: Man who fatally stabbed Moline man acted in self-defense

MOLINE, Ill. (KWQC) – One person has died after a stabbing in Moline over the weekend and now the state’s attorney’s office is saying the man who stabbed him acted in self-defense.

Police say around 4 p.m. they responded to the 3500 block of 70th Street at the Pheasant Ridge Apartments for a report of a disturbance/unknown problem.

When officers arrived, they located an adult male who had been stabbed. Fire department officials took the man to the hospital where he later died.

According to the Rock Island County Coroner, the man has been identified as 20-year-old Demetri L. Long, of Moline. An autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday.

On Tuesday, Dec. 31 the state’s attorney’s office released a statement saying another man was taken to the hospital that night due to cuts on his hands.

“After a careful investigation and interviews with all witnesses involved, it has been determined that Mr. Long entered the apartment without permission and was the initial aggressor in a physical altercation that occurred within the residence,” officials with the state’s attorney’s office said in the release. “It is believed that the other male was attempting to defend himself from Mr. Long’s initial attack and was injured with a knife, which was then used to protect himself and others in the residence from Mr. Long.

Intoxicated and pepper sprayed.

Sounds like he’s pickled and seasoned, ready for employment at the TBTJ Deli.

And a trifecta of poor victim selection skills. Tho one could wonder a bit about the Moline story. The only one who could refute the testimony of the “others in the residence” is dead.

Nice tribute to my traveling companion there Mister. Stainless, .40, extended mag, fits my hand like an Isotoner Glove. Real pity about that boating accident.
