Guinea fowl as a natural snake repellent. (Phonedojo/Imjur)

Photoshop or the real deal? Guinea fowls would group together to pressure a snake to leave their area. In the above picture, it doesn’t appear that the snake has an escape route. Maybe one opened up after this photo was taken. I remember seeing a documentary where small mammals did the same thing to a snake.

Enjoy your weekend.

Ranks Mates! The struggle was for sure real today wasn’t even thinking I’d be around for the WOT. Little wobbly today and had to make a provision run to the K Roger. Literally had just got back, unloaded the skateboard, put the cold stuff away, and opened up the Chromie. Whomp, there it was. I know how that snake feels, cause that’s what the fight for FIRST is all about, surrounded by floggers of the key of F5.

Gots me some deals to the K Roger tho, Smithfield Hams for .99 a lb and 93/7% grounded beef beast round for 2.99 a lb. Had some ground chuck for the same. 3 of them 12 pounder Smithfields and 16 pounds of the of the beef beast. Gonna start a crockett pot of veggie beef beast soup, and prolly back one of them 12 pounders overnight. Cold weather coming back after this weekend.

Gotta play catch up on the other threads and see what I missed.

BTW, tho Epstein didn’t kill hisself and bernasty did kill hisself they are both still maintaining a minus 6 feet AGL and, hopefully, rotting in hell as Satan devours their worthless souls.

January 22 marks the two year anniversary of America losing one her greatest treasures, (Not) An Honorary Chief Petty Officer, (not) a lawyer in good standing with the California Bar Association, (not) a distinguished veteran loved and admired by the military community, Daniel Bernath. What can you say about a man with universal appeal, that being despised throughout the universe to include but not limited to Earth, Saturn, Pluto, and of course Uranus? Some of us are richer for knowing him, I’m looking at you Seavey, and the rest of us can take comfort in knowing that Daniel Bernath left this world the way he came in, screaming incoherently and unable to control his bladder. So, take a moment this coming Wednesday, look up to the sky, and say to yourself “But for the grace of God, that could have been me at the defendant’s table in his frivolous lawsuit.” And look fondly back on the lasting impression that Daniel Bernath’s left, that being the impression of a Van’s Aircraft RV-12 north of Bonita Beach Road Southeast.

    P.S. Over, over.

P.S.S. It goes without saying that Hack Stone declares Honorary First Post on The Weekend Open Thread.

Passing the WOT First crown to 5th/77th FA for the week, I humbly submit this week’s trivia silliness. May all my Weed and Weedette friends enjoy!

Did the world almost come to an end in 1983?
    By Commissioner Wretched

    There’s something special about January.

With an almost totally unmarked calendar ahead of us, we can enjoy looking ahead, wondering what good things will be approaching.

The days will be getting longer, slowly but surely, and the weather will be getting more seasonably appropriate. It may not feel like that right now, but trust me, it will happen.

If it doesn’t, we’ve entered the Twilight Zone.

If you want to accomplish anything special this year, now’s the time to plan for it, while the rest of the calendar sits before you. As we say around the office, “Plan your work, then work your plan!”

(I’m not sure why we say it, but we do.)

I plan to spend as much of the calendar as I can putting together trivia, just for you! Here’s this week’s serving.

    Did you know …

… the old standard of “one dog year equals seven human years” is all wrong? Animal scientists tell us that the first two years of a dog’s life are equal to 24 human years. The next three dog years are about ten human years each; after that, it settles into the average of one dog year being the same as six or seven human years. (By that reckoning, a dog can retire at age seven. Great work if you can get it.)

… bacon is not naturally salty? Pork contains some sodium, as does any meat. But the curing and brining process is what gives bacon its salty flavor. (And it’s the frying that makes it tasty!)

… all people with blue eyes may be related? Research in Denmark of blue-eyed people in Scandinavia, Turkey, Jordan and India discovered that they all had the identical gene for eye color. The believe this trait comes from one individual between 6,000 and 10,000 years ago, making all blue-eyed people distantly related to each other. (And that one individual grew up to be Frank Sinatra.)

… you can get a license to hunt unicorns from Lake Superior State University in Michigan? (Unicorns are real. Lake Superior State University, however, is mythical.)

… in Texas, cowboy boots are exempt from sales tax? Hiking boots, on the other hand, are not.

… the world almost came to an end on September 26, 1983? On that day, the nuclear early-warning system of the Soviet Union reported that six missiles had been launched by the United States, and were headed toward Moscow. Lt. Col. Stanislav Petrov (1939-2017) was the Soviet duty officer at a bunker near Moscow and he noticed the satellite feed had the blips. Petrov faced the decision no person should ever have to face … “Do I launch a retaliation and destroy the world, or sit still and let my country be shattered?” After a few sweaty moments, Petrov decided that the data on his screen was not accurate, and he did not press the dreaded red button. He was vindicated when there were no nuclear explosions; what the satellite showed as incoming nuclear missiles was actually the reflection of the Sun off of high-altitude clouds and the odd orbits of the satellites themselves. Though Petrov’s decision spared us from a nuclear holocaust, he was not rewarded by the Soviet government. It seems the entire incident embarrassed the leaders because it showed a gaping weakness in their defense system at a time of high tension between the U.S. and the U.S.S.R. In later interviews, Petrov said he decided the data on the screen was wrong because he believed a U.S. strike would involve a lot more than six missiles, so it couldn’t have been a nuclear attack. (All together, now … WHEW!)

… an ancient curse may have helped start World War II? In 1940, Soviet archaeologists were in Uzbekistan examining the tomb of the Middle Ages warrior Timur the Lame (1336-1405), also known to history as Tamerlane. An anthropologist with the group discovered Timur’s casket, which bore the warning inscription, “Whoever opens my tomb shall unleash an invader more terrible than I.” Three days later, Nazi armies invaded the Soviet Union. (I’m going with the curse explanation, since I don’t believe in coincidence.)

… about 25% of all bottled water that is sold is merely tap water? (Personally, I believe the percentage is higher than that. I never drink water; when you consider what fish do in it …)

… one cubic mile of seawater contains about 50 pounds of gold? (How you get the gold out of it is up to you.)

… the creator of the “Harry Potter” book series is no longer a billionaire? J.K. Rowling (born 1965) fell off the list of billionaires because she has donated a great deal of her money to charity. Rowling is also the first person in history to become a billionaire by writing books.

… the smallest measurable unit of time has a name? The yoctosecond is one-septillionth of a second. A septillion is the number one followed by 24 zeroes – or, in this case, a septillionth, preceded by 24 zeroes. (I can understand how the measure it so precisely … what I don’t get is why they do it.)

… bears in Russia are addicted to jet fuel? They are known to hang out around airports and military facilities in Russia, sniff the fuel to get high, and then pass out. (That’s their story and they’re sticking to it.)

… fingerprints were not accepted as evidence in court until 1941? (“That’s that new-fangled science, Johnny! Now back in my day …”)

    Now … you know!

The mark of the beast is a reference to permanent marks that people put on themselves as a way of identifying themselves as belonging to specific deities.

In the New Testament, “666”, was a reference to Nero. He was seen by some groups as “divine”, or referenced as such. The writer of the New Testament was using this as an insult, knowing that the audience would as well, as they didn’t see Nero as being divine. Having such a mark would be a violation of Mosaic law.

In the above link’s case, “the beast” would be the God of greed, and the “mark of the beast” would be the use of the handprint as mentioned in the link.

ninja, thebesig gots no worries from me on this one. He was just posting a skewed survey that doesn’t really mean or make a Continental. No harm no foul. *grin* Read that survey yesterday and expressed mirth at a high decibel level. I don’t know who they were surveying, but they dang sure didn’t get the average working Southerner. The operative word being working. I never answer any surveys at all, even if they do bother to ask me. And I’m sure that this survey did not include ranking fishing or hunting in the questions. We all know about the “lies, damn lies, and statistics.” Lately my main exercise program is dodging responsibility, chasing rumors, lifting weights 12 oz at a time, and keeping my cast iron cookware working. And you can be assured that when this survey was done, nat a single hippie dippy Colorado brownie muncher could have kept up with me or out line crews.

I have kept a low profile on the whole VA thing. Northam is an asinine idiot that is in no way an honorable person that is typical of a Son of Virginia. No matter anyone’s personal feelings on the War Between The States, Robert E. Lee was the very best overall Military Tactician and Army Commander that the world had ever seen, before, during, and after. When you look at what he accomplished with his very limited resources, the Army of Northern Virginia was 2nd to none. Grant won strictly by wearing him down thru a war of attrition and logistics. Grant’s unlimited supply of manpower thru the immigrants coming straight off the boat into the ranks of the Army of the Potomac could not be matched. Bobbie Lee’s tactics were and if I read correctly, are still being taught to the students at The Hudson River School for Wayward Children. Here we are at the anniversary of Desert Storm where the overall plan that The Bear used was straight out of Lee’s Chancellorsville Campaign. If Jackson had not of been hit that night, Joe Hooker would have found himself in the same boat that the Iraq Army found themselves in. If Colin Powell and Bush the Oneth had not of stopped the Bear when they did, there never would have been a “Desert Storm 2.0.” My (step) son was a Bradley Gunner with 3/15 Inf 24th Mech Div. They were so busy kicking azz, they didn’t have time to take names. I blame the whole war on terror BS that we have put up with for the last 18 years right at the foot of the chicken sh^t politicians that would not let the Military finish the job in ’91… But I digress.

Northam is gonna find hisself in a world of stuff…soon! If the likes of Bobbie Lee, Tom Jackson, J.E.B. Stuart, Patrick Henry, George Washington, ect, ect, were here today, that Racist Toady Northam would already have been run out of town on a rail. He is pandering to the socialist and the political correctness to buy himself and his cronies more votes and more power. They are stirring up the crap, hoping for a violent confrontation so that he can declare martial law. When they get done tearing down WBTS Monuments and the Confederate Battle Flag, they will next be going after other War Memorials and the US and Christian Flags. Grrrrrrrrr 😡 😡 😡

Rant over…for now! Happy Birthday Robert Edward Lee 19 January 1807.

“…stunt…” yep good choice of ^word^. Did ja notice he demurred on an opinion of the Byrd Statue proposed legislation. Fred Astaire wished he had that many dance steps. Neither Gnrl Lee or Jackson owned any slaves and Jackson even broke the law in providing education for the slaves in his hometown, built a church, and tithed to the church even past his death. Northam is a backstabbing, pandering, embellishing son of a bitch. He is a looter and a pillager. He is the worst enemy the people of Virginia has seen.

        • thebesig says:

I thought the same thing about the survey. The first thing that came to mind was wanting to see the methodology and the questions. There are a lot of surveys out there trying to paint conservatives, and conservative areas, in a negative light.

I have nothing against any particular state, I just will present information.

The South had many things going against them during the Civil War. As for bringing immigrants into the front line, many Canadians and Mexicans joined in the fight on both sides. In fact, when it came to getting volunteers from within the state, both sides had to turn people away.

The Union had some good generals as well. There was also the ingenuity/know-how, experience, of the individual fighting men on both sides.

However, given variables such as the resources that the North had relative to the South, it was inevitable that the North was going to win. One of the good things that came from this is that the infrastructure that existed in the north, as well as the industry, pushed south bringing the southern states in line with the northern states. This was to serve us well during the Indian Wars and during the Spanish-American war.

As for the war on terror, this is something that we would still have regardless of what Bush Senior had decided. We are dealing with an entity that wants to establish global radical Islamic law. This war has been going on since Muslim forces pushed out of the Arabian Peninsula during the first part of the Medieval Period. We simply responded to it… For the second time. The first time is what we know as the Barbary Wars.

Another meaningless bit of nonsense. How active one is away from work just might depend upon what one does at work, AND how healthy it might be to be active instead of resting up to return to work.

For instance – how active would a sane person expect an aerobics instructor to be away from work?

If space travel is going to “explode” the way maritime exploration did before the colonial period, it’s going to be done in the hands of corporate ventures. The European kingdoms were equivalent to “corporations” during the agricultural age. Modern corporations will play a key role in bringing science fiction into reality with space exploration and lunar/planetary colonization:

There is a cheaper alternative. These individuals, who want a socialist utopia, could pick a country that comes close to their definition of a socialist utopia. If these countries are not doing it properly, perhaps our socialists can show them how to do it properly.

That Delegate (Nancy Guy) needs to get a Life.

“Virginia Delegate Presents Bill To Fine People For Releasing Balloons”

“Releasing balloons into the air during celebrations and memorials has been a tradition in our region and across the country.”

“Delegate Nancy Guy is working to pass a bill that would fine people for doing this.”

“Under the bill, releasing balloons could cost you a fine between $250 – $25,000.”

“Experts said the days following Mother’s Day, graduations and other celebrations there is a lot of plastic that washes up on the shore.”

“The US Fish and Wildlife Service said when balloons wind up released into the air they pose a threat to animals. The problem is that birds, turtles and other animals think balloons in the ocean are food. It can harm or kill them.”

“But some people think a bill banning balloons from being released is excessive and unnecessary. Under the proposed bill, a person could be required to do community service instead of having to pay money.”

“Under current law, people are not allowed to release 50 or more balloons within an hour, and the civil penalty is $5 a balloon.”

They conveniently selected a leftist area. I wonder if they would support that recommendation if a heavily Republican area was to be divided into 127 new states to eliminate the electoral college.

They are just concocting ways to yank power into their hands.

Whoever wrote that article doesn’t get the concept of our Republic, and the fact that it is the states that choose the president, not the people. The presidential election is 51 different contests and not a single one. The national popular vote is meaningless in a presidential election.

It looks like our founding fathers had a better understanding of human nature than many of these individuals who identify as “progressives”.

This was posted about a month ago. Makes one wonder who influenced these two Knuckleheads: 😉😎😆

“Former Haverford College Students Sentenced for Attempting to Access President Trump’s Tax Returns”:

“…Justin Hiemstra, 22, of St. Paul Park, Minnesota, and Andrew Harris, 23, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania were both sentenced today to two years’ probation and 200 hours of community service by United States District Judge Cynthia M. Rufe. In August 2019, Hiemstra pled guilty to using a school computer and someone else’s username without that person’s permission in an attempt to illegally obtain then-Presidential candidate Donald Trump’s tax returns from the Internal Revenue Service. Harris pled guilty to the same charges in September 2019.”

“These charges arose out of a plot between the defendants, then students at Haverford College, to use computers at the school’s computer lab and the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) website to illegally access the tax returns. Hiemstra and Harris opened a false FAFSA application in the name of a member of the Trump family and found that someone else had already obtained a username and password for Donald Trump. In order to reset the password, the defendants were prompted to answer challenge questions, which the original person had created when setting up the account. The defendants were able to answer the questions and reset the password. They then used the President’s personal identifying information, including his social security number and date of birth, to attempt to import the President’s federal tax information into the bogus FAFSA application. Ultimately, this illegal attempt failed.”

“Hiemstra and Harris thought they could manipulate and outsmart the FAFSA application process in order to obtain Donald Trump’s tax returns for their own purposes. As it turns out, that was not such a smart move: they committed a serious violation of privacy rights and a federal crime in the process,” said U.S. Attorney McSwain. “Now they have both been held accountable. And those who complete the FAFSA application, please take note: this Office takes these kinds of cybersecurity breaches seriously and we are doing everything we can to keep your personal information safe.”

It’s so confusing in OWB land.

It’s winter, right? But global warming is supposed to have us all cozy as we await Armageddon – elevated heat and all.

Oh, wait, it’s not warming, it’s climate change. Like it’s sometimes warm and sometimes chilly? And so far this winter it has sometimes been warmish and sometimes coldish ’round here. As one would expect in winter.

Is there a climate change alarmist out there who can explain just what it is that I am supposed to be concerned about? Not seeing it here. It’s winter. I need a coat when I go outside. Sometimes a pretty heavy coat. Sometimes a lighter weight will do. Depending upon what sort of precip has befallen us, maybe a change in foot ware.

How is this different from what I did 50 years ago, and every year between then and now?

What I also don’t understand is if Louis Perratta, US Navy, escaped from Vietnam after being held for a year as a POW, then why did he spend a year in a GERMAN Hospital (according to his Obituary).

Here is a portion of his Obit:

“Louis Perretta, 75, of Murrells Inlet, SC, died Thursday, January 16. 2020 at Tidelands Waccamaw Community Hospital.”

“Louis was born in Brooklyn, NY on February 9, 1944.”

“Louis served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. While serving, he was captured as a POW for one year. After escaping, he spent one year in a German hospital.”

“A mass will be held on Wednesday, January 22, 2020 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael Catholic Church, 542 Cypress Ave, Murrells Inlet, SC 29576.”

Hope he wasn’t one of those Veterans who are or were illegally obtaining VA Disability by claiming to be a Vietnam POW.

    One last question:

Will the House now begin impeachment proceedings against itself and every member of it’s body for exactly the same “charges” it is leveling against POTUS? After all, it is trying to influence the 2020 election AND obstructed justice by failing to follow procedures to get any witnesses they wanted forced by a court to answer subpoenas.

The politicians started the FIRST War Between The States. (Officially known as the War of The Rebellion) Check out the US Government published 144 Volume tome titled Official Records of the War of The Rebellion.

Ralphie IS trying to start a true Civil War where he is pitting two segments of the population against one another. His useful idiots do not realize that they are being used by him and his ilk to suppress even more of the freedoms that we have. My ninjas that are up there now are already reporting on busloads of antifa folks wearing MAGA hats and carrying pro gun signage.
