Monroe County homeowner shoots axe-wielding intruder, sheriff’s office says

by: Summer Poole
MONROE COUNTY, Ala. (WKRG) — A suspect in a home break-in is in the hospital, News 5 has learned.

He was shot by a homeowner after entering their home with an axe, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

MCSO officials said they were called to a home in the Eureka Landing community around 2:40 a.m. on June 3 for a report of a break-in.

When deputies arrived, they said they found the homeowner, who said that he shot the suspect in the torso in self-defense.

Deputies said they were able to find the suspect behind the home with a gunshot wound, and he was taken to a local hospital.

MCSO Sheriff Tom Boatwright said the homeowner is not expected to face charges due to their acting in self-defense.

1 charged after shooting on Fern Avenue in Nashville

by: Aubriella Jackson
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — Authorities responded to a shooting Monday morning just north of downtown Nashville.

According to authorities, a report of gunshots fired on Fern Avenue was made just before 5 a.m. Monday.

Responding officers found a man with a gunshot wound to the leg on the Fern Avenue overpass of Interstate 65. He was taken to TriStar Skyline Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to arrest documents, the shooting occurred after an altercation between several people at a party in a short-term rental.

A man and woman in attendance said they were forced out of the party at gunpoint, prompting the woman to call authorities and report that she was robbed. While on the phone with emergency services, the suspects reportedly began firing shots at her and the man, who then allegedly pulled out his own weapon returned gunfire.

Officers were in the area for several hours collecting evidence along the street and on the Interstate 65 overpass.

Jaylin McNairy, 18, was charged with felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after he was identified as the person who forced the woman outside at gunpoint. He was booked into Metro jail on a $75,000 bond. No additional information was immediately released.

I don’t suppose leaving the immediate vicinity, THEN calling the Po-Po occurred to our party goers. Thanks, Gun Bunny.

The home wrecker didn’t axe permission to enter the home. Too bad the homeowner didn’t put him in the morgue instead of the hospital. It would have been well worth the additional application of the TSS.

Sometime when I tell people it is a good idea to own a firearm in case an axe wielding maniac breaks into their house. They tell me that kind of stuff only happens in the movies. Un-hunh.

KoB

Probably more attacks are made using axes than there are scary black rifles. I keep an Estwing Camp Axe and hatchet in my bug out bag just…because.

Nashville main article was a little short on details but a little deeper dive thru the GVA site gave us this..,

Vics…Zahra Gowani… Keshawn Stafford

Perps…Myles Vaughn…Jaylin McNairy Names tell the tale, huh.  sigh Claw Daddy, you up? The usual suspects, doing the usual things.

That KelTec is a toy that mighta shoulda been left in the attic. I guess with 33-50 rounds one could use it to keep a bad guy’s head down while one gets to a real pistol. heh heh

Engage your brain before you engage your mouth. Better to keep your mouth shut and have someone think you’re an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt.

My experiences with Kel-Tec Products (a KSG and a SUB CQB) have been good but that pistol has a bad, bad rap. KEL-Tec has some nice ideas that aren’t always executed the best.

Was it a Kel-Tec that the Honorable George Zimmerman used to dispatch Trayboon and protect his neighborhood, the community of Sanford, Florida and the world at large from a skittle-breath heathen?

I thank George, as a white non-hispanic American, for his grace and comportment when he was blindsided by an insane street derelict and known sociopath.

Whenever I hear someone say that a .22 isn’t a good self-defense gun, I always ask them; “…then is it okay if I shoot you several times with one?”
The usual answer is; “NO! You could kill me!”

Aaaayep!

Graybeard

Friend of mine tells the story of a fellow who shot a guy in a bar with a .22 oncet. 50, 60 years ago.

“And that fellow got mad!

I should note that the circumstances and location of the bar indicate that all participants were hard-working country boys before round-bale hay came around. IYKYK

On the other hand, the retired TX DPS Trooper in our Sunday School class received his promotion and transfer to the Galveston decades ago when his predecessor was killed by a .22 to the upper arm, that traveled up the humerus, turned at the shoulder, entered his chest cavity and hit his heart. Freakishly bad luck.

Just by giving me your names, tell me your melanin skin content, without telling me your melanin skin content.
And Yep! Need to make sure Claw has the Whiz Wheel in proper PMCS (with extra parts and lube on the side) in order to give us a full point score on this party of two legged chimp out idiots.

At one point years back, I read that .22s had killed more people than any other caliber, mainly because there have literally been millions and millions produced. Tried to explain that to a relative once – they had a lovely choke point stairwell to the second floor where they slept, and only a 10-22 to work with. Told ’em a couple of 25 round magazines and a mag dump if someone actually tried coming up the stairs would solve all their problems. There are even .22 rounds like Federal Punch which penetrate like .38s.

5JC

While less than ideal it works. They used to make a 10/22 magnum too, but hard to find on the resale market.

A 10/22 style rifle in 5.7 or 22 TCM would be nice. It would be perfectly viable for practically any role.

David

IN GENERAL KelTecs are interestingly executed decent quality firearms, pretty much of the “carry a lot shoot a little” concept. Their P3AT came out years before the Ruger LCP and pretty much started the whole micro-gun
movement. Before that a small .380 was something on the order of a PPK – nowadays a PPK sized gun will turn out to be a 15 round 9mm. Pistol caliber carbines? They pretty much led the way there, too.
But…and especially in this case…some of Mr. Kellgren’s creations are just plain FUGLY.

W.F. Buckley was a treat to read or listen to. His accent and huge command of language combined with rapid, real-time wit were unmatched.

Albeit, Buckley and Dick Cavett could probably have held forth for a few hours.

A quick search revealed a somewhat telling middle name, so the Whiz Wheel®™ has been PMCSed and spins up the following score:
