Pentagon: Ban on Press at Dover ends Monday

| April 1, 2009

Here comes that Hope and Change and the Obama Administration making friends with veterans, the troops and their families (Stars and Stripes);

For the first time in nearly 20 years, members of the news media will be allowed starting Monday to cover the solemn arrivals of American flag-draped coffins holding the remains of U.S. troops at Dover Air Force Base, Del.

Defense Secretary Robert Gates issued an instruction last week to reverse the two decadeslong ban on media coverage, The Associated Press reported Tuesday, noting that a written memo is expected later this week.

I hope that Gates and his staff have planned for the elephant parade and the clown car antics of the media when they get to the Air Force Base. Remember that when you let them in, you’re a slave to their self-important behavior – having been shoved aside myself a few times by anxious media types more worried about getting the picture than any semblance of decorum.

What is the Pentagon going to do the first time a young spouse of a fallen service member finds out about the death of their loved one from some media clod calling them to get permission to snap pictures of the body coming off the aircraft in Dover?

Gates BOFOs and military families are burdened with the responsibility of a decision that the Pentagon gracefully accepted years ago. Now the buck stops over there.

Gates has no balls to have gone along with this.

This was Appeasement pure and simple

President Palin will be busy her first day in office come 2013. I’m sure this will be one of her first projects to put back right.

Devil’s advocate, Yeah, have dealt with agenda driven, people skill lacking journos, but I have meet some J-school faculty that taught how to deal with people experiencing trauma, ie. Police & Military families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty. These folks had a clue & were wonderful. J-schools need to teach people skills & the best journos are folks who entered the profession after reaching a level of maturity. I have no problem with “left” leaning journos, it’s a free country & if more “conservative” types don’t like it, GET INTO MEDIA!!!

I saw a lot of shit on both my tours, stuff that would make anyone puke. But this bullshit makes me sick. Generallisimo Zero will rue the day he pissed off lonely Gold Star wives.

At least there’s a thin line of defense. They have to get the family’s permission and maybe, just maybe, there will be a story about how the vast majority won’t give permission.

It’s a shame and a disgrace that those who are in the middle of great sorrow have to shoulder that burden.

Skye, please tell me your line about Palin was a joke, as Palin herself is a joke. She was a media flop that for all purposes was an attempt to out minority the dems.

I have an idea, next election, instead of playing the dem’s game of an underdog candidate-be it a female, an embarassment from the great state of Louisiana, or a RNC Chair who came out with a bang and then handed all media efforts over to Rush…let’s find someone that can inspire the party, knows where they’re supposed to stand on the issues (clue in Palin on that one) and can lead.

We need a leader, not a publicity stunt.

I’m a long time registered Democrat and I’ve voted a straight Democrat ticket in every election since Woodrow Wilson. I voted for Obama in the 2008 election, but after his performance of the last few weeks, I’ll never vote Democrat again.

How do you like that?

Well let’s add this little tidbit to the mix http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/nation/6320070.html

Look, whatever the families of the Fallen need they should get. But to me by offering to fly the families to Dover is just one more “opportunity” for the media to exploit them and their loved ones. I cannot imagine how difficult it would be to think straight during a time of such loss and grief. I’m willing to bet that there will be families who regret making decisions about allowing the media to interlope on them. Such a shame to provide the avenue to set them up like this.

There are no words to express how angry this crap makes me; of course, when commie bastards run the government, one cannot expect ANY decency, honor, or respect for the military. Since the people in charge are all morally bankrupt degenerates, one cannot expect them to see the bodies of our service men and women as anything more than easily exploited propaganda tools.
To Hell with them all.

We shouldn’t have to wait for the dem’s to fail so miserably that a republican can win. Isn’t that what we just did to get Obama elected?
