Victim uses battle ax to fend off home invader

by: Barton Deiters
OSHTEMO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — A man is alive and well after he used an ax to fend off a convicted criminal who broke into his Oshtemo Township apartment late Wednesday night.

Ben Ball, 36, used a replica battle ax to keep the intruder at bay.

The 33-year-old suspect, Alex Lavell Rawls, is now in jail facing a charge of first-degree home invasion, which could put him in prison for a maximum of 20 years.

Ball says that the suspect dated his former roommate who left to get away. The suspect showed up at the apartment around 11:30 p.m., thinking she was there.

The suspect knocked on the door repeatedly, then kicked it in, while Ball was in his apartment playing video games and watching Rick and Morty.

Ball said he had reason to believe the suspect had a firearm.

“(The) door opened, (I) grabbed the ax, (then) step, step, hit.”

Woman shot while attempting to break into apartments, police say

By: Siobhan Riley
MEMPHIS, Tenn. – A woman was shot while attempting to break into a Raleigh apartment she claimed was hers.

Police were called to The Coves at Yale apartments in the 5000 block of Yale Road Sunday.

Erika Glass is charged with aggravated burglary.
One neighbor said she was asleep when she heard someone trying to break into several homes.

“I heard a boom coming from across the hall, and my husband, my daughter and I jumped,” she told FOX13. “And I heard after that a woman say ‘She shot me.’”

The resident told FOX13 that Glass started banging on her patio door around 4 a.m. Sunday. That’s when she heard noises that sounded like gunshots and glass breaking.

“I haven’t really slept since then,” she said.

She told FOX13 she heard someone trying to get in through her 15-year-old son’s bedroom window.

“My neighbors said he or she was going around twisting the nobs and ringing the doorbells,” she said.

The victim told police she asked Glass to get away from her door. She said Glass wouldn’t leave. That’s when the suspect allegedly broke the glass on the patio door.

According to police, the victim shot the suspect when she came into the home.

Today brings us a tally of one DRT, three inconvenienced and none in the wind, Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes. Not all I come across for posting here feel good- the Mannford OK PD shooting is a case in point. It’s tragic, but maybe there are some lessons to be learned here. Or old lessons that need to be reinforced.

After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small, complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd. — Alexis de Tocqueville

Damn shame about the Police Chief. Maybe we’ll see an article that has more info. The commentators on that linky were throwing rocks at the reporter on the lack of details.

    • I wish that I could send all the IPN texts from chicago & Baltimore shootings to TAH but I can only forward them to a cell phone and not the computer.
      FYI-IPN is incident paging network.

    • David says:

Chuckie Schumer proposed banning FN 5.7s today because one of the anti-gun groups called it a ‘cop-killer’ gun 10 years ago, and lo and behold, a cop was finally killed by one. Straw purchase, illegal AP ammo, and a hideously expensive gun to buy or shoot – but it’s a cop-killer and must be banned!

  7. Ball must have had a ball wielding the battle axe and yelling you axed for it as he swung it around.

Battle Ax sung by the Charmers- 1954 on the Timely record label.
