…and Turkey’s View Of It
Meanwhile, back in Turkey, it appears that Erdogan is a bit twitchy about some things: https://www.militarytimes.com/flashpoints/2019/11/05/turkey-says-kurdish-fighters-still-remain-in-safe-zone-near-syrian-border/
SURUC, Turkey — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called Tuesday for Russia and the United States to keep to their promises and ensure that Syrian Kurdish fighters pull out of a so-called safe zone along Syria’s northern border with Turkey.
In his weekly speech to ruling party legislators, Erdogan said Syrian Kurdish fighters were still present in some of the border areas in northeastern Syria. That’s despite two cease-fire agreements — brokered by the U.S. and Russia — that halted Turkey’s military offensive to allow Kurdish fighters to pull back from the border.
Turkey considers these Kurdish-led forces to be terrorists, but the same fighters had also made up the core of the U.S.-backed force that battled the Islamic State group. – article
So, there you have it: We still have people in Syria; Erdogan isn’t happy about any of it, because he wants to grab land; and the Kurds are still getting our help. This will likely stay on the back burner until or unless Erdogan decides he wants to do more than grumble.
Mmmm-hmmmm, remember how some troll types screeched about how President Trump was quickly letting the Middle East go to hell in a handbasket? IMHO the opposite is happening and I think he’s still playing multi-level Chess like in “Star Trek” while all the others are playing beginner checkers, *MMMmmm*, Nacho-flavored popcorn….
Ex-PH2:
I apologize up front for this off-topic request, but could you please correct the photo caption above to read “USMC EA-6B Prowler”?
The current erroneous caption is “triggering” my Naval Aviation OCD! (AW1Ed can probably sympathize.)
Thanks!
I can indeed, as Hondo well knows.
Cool bird. Affectionately known as “The Queer” for the gold lined canopy that shields the crew from the tremendous and varied RF used to jam just about everything. The AGM88E Advanced Radiation Guided Missiles it can carry just increases the grin factor.
What, they don’t fly those things at West Point?
What, they don’t fly those things at West Point?
Sorry, working on the phone.
Again, does anybody here trust the Turks? Or the Russkies? Anybody?
They BOTH want them thar oil fields/facilities. Have a few aerial Artillery Platforms sitting at + 5 on one of them floating landing strips. Or pop a few Tomahawks from that submerged Artillery Platform. Game.Set.Match! Checkmate!
“They BOTH want them thar oil fields/facilities….”
That’s only because Turkey has good access to the Med, isn’t it? That means that Vlad’s gas/oil tankers wouldn’t have to go through the Straits of Bosporus, right? Could he BE more transparent?
Kurds are tough.
CNN is finally getting this….
