A blog article is posted here on a former prosecutor’s signed statement detailing his being asked to resign. In it, he talked about how then Vice President Biden threatened to withhold money from Ukraine if this prosecutor were not fired. This is something that many want to be investigated. However, the Democrats have other plans.
They’re running an impeachment probe regarding the phone call that President Trump had with his Ukrainian counterpart. If you’ve read that transcript, you’d see a transaction that didn’t appear to break any laws. However, those blinded by the desire to tarnish the current president are trying to find something to pin on him.
From their letter:
The Committees are investigating the extent to which President Trump jeopardized national security by pressing Ukraine to interfere with our 2020 election and by withholding security assistance provided by Congress to help Ukraine counter Russian aggression, as well as any efforts to cover up these matters.
This statement hints that they’ve already made their conclusion, and now it’s just a matter of finding the “extent” of what they believe President Trump did. Adam Schiff is one of the signers of this letter. CNBC provides an article on this topic.

Why are the Republicans not pushing to have the impeachment inquiry brought to a vote in the House?
@Twist my take on it is they want this front and center for election next year. They’ll do all they can to stall and make sure the base is all fired up about this come Nov 2020.
I’m surprised that Pelosi isn’t moving quicker so she can blame the Republicans in the Senate for failing to convict, which would fire up the democratic base to get out there and vote those Senators out.

There isn’t going to be an impeachment vote. There isn’t going to be an impeachment trial in the Senate.
Democrats will drag out this “inquiry” as long as possible.
Trump’s lawyers will fight every subpoena in court (rightfully so) that since this isn’t a formal voted on impeachment they do not have to comply.
Democrats in turn will scream “obstruction of justice” and add it to their list of grievances.
And actual impeachment vote would mean they would have to go on record. Then when it got to the Senate, they would have to provide all of the evidence, people would have to testify under oath AND they could be questioned by Trump’s lawyers. And that’s something Democrats simply cannot allow.
So they’ll keep up the theater of an “impeachment inquiry” and keep looking like Wile E. Coyote every time the Acme rocket keeps blowing up in their faces.

I’ll disagree – there will definitely be an impeachment vote, and since the House is controlled by the Democrats, the President will be impeached. Then it’ll go to the Senate, and he will not be removed from office.
The Democrats can’t pull out this card and then say, “Just kidding!” – it’d be political suicide to their own base. Similarly, even if the President took in a personal check for a billion bucks from some foreign country, the Senate won’t remove him for office – for similar reasons.
I think it’s a foregone conclusion he’s going to be impeached, the only question is when.

As I said previously, IF it goes to the Senate people are going to be required to testify under oath. No more anonymous whistle blowers, no more “officials familiar with”. There’s also this: Biden’s bid will be compromised and ended by anything that comes out of this, although some of it has already become public knowledge. And Pelosi knows it, doesn’t want it to happen, but knows that it will end it for him.
Well, we fundamentally disagree on the nature of the investigation – I don’t think the Democrats fear testifying under oath at all. I don’t expect anyone to go to jail, on either side, because that’s the nature of DC, but some will get slapped on the wrist, sure.

As for the duration, I think she’ll string it out until public opinion is solid enough that it’s a no-brainer. The Democrats don’t want this extending until the elections; they want an impeachment. Expect advertisements touting that in the next election.

The swamp being the swamp, I doubt anyone will go to prison, no matter how much they deserve it. As for the duration / outcome, I’m still undecided, other than to say that without question, the left will put party, and “orange man bad” above the good of the country at every opportunity, and the duration of their witch hunt will directly reflect those priorities, and their perception of the impact these proceedings will have on them.
I do agree that Pelosi sees this as a looser issue, and that’s why she’s been dragging her feet, but AOC is now running the party, so she will do whatever she has to in order to maintain at least the appearance of control.

That’s good because Trumps’ greatest achievement will be appointing conservative federal judges. Especially to the ninth circuit and the Supreme Court.
Those of us who have actually appeared before its justices like to call it the Ninth Circus Court of Appeals. Their decisions that reach the Supreme Court for review are reversed about 2/3rds of the time. They are the most reversed federal appeals court in the system.
I would be interested in a long term chart of their track record. We might see a change in the curve starting about 2018. (Grin)
The current congressional circus may be intended to stop the Senate from continuing to seat Trump’s judicial nominees, by tying them up with the impeachment charade. If it gets to the Senate, look for the Donks to delay the process so as to keep it running to the very end of the session.
