Kaufman County woman fatally shot burglar in self-defense, officials say

Sara Coello, Breaking News Reporter
A Kaufman County woman who was awoken by a burglar fatally shot the man in self-defense Thursday morning, police say.

The woman called 911 about 9:45 a.m. after she woke up to a man she did not recognize banging on her front door in the 8000 block of FM2757, near Interstate 20 and Malloy Bridge Road.

She called 911 from a locked closet when she heard the back door being kicked in, police said.

The woman stayed on the line with operators until the burglar confronted her, at which point she shot him in self-defense, Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Jolie Stewart said.

By Carly Behm
A homeowner shot the man who broke into his home Friday in Uptown on the North Side.

About 12:08 a.m., a 42-year-old man forced his way into a home in the 800 block of West Lakeside Place through a rear sliding door, Chicago police said.

He was confronted by the 39-year-old homeowner who shot him in the buttocks, police said. The homeowner is an FOID card holder.

The older man’s condition was stabilized at Illinois Masonic Medical Center, police said. No one else was inside the home, and the homeowner was not injured.

Weekends are warming up, with a spate of home invasions Delta Whiskies and Whiskettes; get in some range time. Today scores at one DRT by poor victim selection, two incapacitated, and none in the wind.

While there is no “Happy” Memorial Day, recognize the day by spending time with family and friends, have that back yard cook-out or beach day, and enjoy the fresh air of the freedoms we have because of the fallen’s sacrifice. They wouldn’t have it any other way.

I now think the only way to control handgun use is to prohibit the guns. And the only way to do that is to change the Constitution. — M. Gartner, then President of NBC News, USA Today, January 16, 1992, pg. A9

Nice 3-D upper.

Love the contour of the lower.

Swapped out the photo for another? The prior one was a more red-white-blue motif.

“convince a few to get some training”

Been working that angle all my life.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it don’t.

Eden

Where can I get one of those t-shirts? Oh, and I’ll take the firearm, too.

Eden

Nice! Thanks for the link! Those look really comfortable.

Nice 39-DD upper… FIFY

Would that be API’s Baby Sister?

1/2/0 Decent end to the week. We’ll take it. I feel 3 times as well this morning as I normally do. Maybe I’ll call the 3 Pete-rson girls before they get out and about.

Speaking of out and about, check up on one another as posted yesterday on the WOT.

dahell is outcast? and 2/17 AC?

5th/77th FA

Well that’s a damn shame and in my opinion, his loss. I enjoyed his back and forth banter, and really appreciated his additional linkies on the “–returned home” Sunday Threads that Hondo brought us. I thought he added/contributed a lot to the “total package” that is TAH. My use of this style of “call sign” was even modeled after his, not only to show my pride in the Artillery, but to see if there was anyone out there that I had served with. Alas 45 years ago was a long time, doubtless many of the respected Senior NCOs and even guys my own age have passed away by now. In the time frame since you posted your reply to my comment, I’ve gone back thru the posts, month by month to this time last year and included the 26th & 27th of July. The biggest differences I saw in posts from a year ago and now were a few less Stolen Valor articles and a number of commenters that are not with us. Would not have thought the addition of Valor Friday, Thursdays are for cooking, and VOV’s lectures would be a turn off. I personally think that Jonn, as many of us are, would be very pleased and proud that y’all have done such a fine job of continuing his work. I don’t follow a lot of other blogs, innerwebz sites, and very very little social media so maybe I don’t have any thing to compare TAH with. Maybe there is another site that suits the ones gone better. Sometimes I wonder if I was the cause of some leaving. I’ll be the FIRST to admit that I can be an aggravating, obnoxious, little cuss. Too bad, for them, that AP, Ex, and even you and Dave, in your own way, still lubs them some 5/77 FA. I know I’m not totally worthless, I can always serve as a bad example. I rattled the cup thru the address linkie. The checks in the mail. Spend it on Top Shelf Whiskey, good seegars, and maybe a new robe for Dave… Read more »

5th:

If it’s any comfort to you:

A couple of years ago, 2/17th commented that he was leaving and not returning.

Jonn then commented “He’ll be back”.

Trying to remember if Jonn also commented that 2/17th had said Goodbye in a previous post before that.

Jonn was right about 2/17th coming back. When Army beat Navy (I think it was the 2nd game), 2/17th returned.

So 2/17th’s recent departure has nothing to do with you, the King of Battle.

Sometimes, despite TAH being a Team, we may differ with one another, but that is OK. If we all thought the same, this Blog may be boring. Disagreements to a limit are healthy…they help us grow.

It is always refreshing to read other folks’ opinions and perception..We learn from one another.

Perhaps oneday, 2/17th may return again. Who knows…he may be reading TAH on a daily basis..right now he is choosing not to provide his insight or 2 cents on any topic.

That is his decision. And that is OK.

Whatever you do, 5th, please don’t change. Please continue being yourself. Have always enjoyed bantering with you (us Southeners have to stick together😉) and I’m sure others feel the same.

Jonn, our Platoon SGT, may be gone pbysically, but he is still with us day to day, heart and soul. It is up to us to keep his Legacy alive…and IMHO, we are doing a pretty darn good job of doing that.

2/17’s contributions gave me the nerve to stick my toe in the water.
He has a seat at the table. Hope to break bread again.

Eden

Jonn once told me the same thing about 2/17th, and he was right. The way he said “goodbye” that time was a little more worrisome (at least to me) than “I’m leaving the forum”, but thankfully I misread it.

I think that my only complaint about the recent blog developments is that our resident commie is once again allowed to spout his nonsense without filter. I get a little tired of scrolling through his blather to get to the good stuff.

Eden

I understand your point. I wouldn’t mind so much if Lars would actually make some logical arguments for his viewpoints, but all he does is spout nonsensical talking points and throw out ad hominem attacks.

Fyrfighter

“Sometimes, despite TAH being a Team, we may differ with one another, but that is OK. If we all thought the same, this Blog may be boring. Disagreements to a limit are healthy…they help us grow.”… Hey, wait a minute! I thought we were all just a hive mind spouting ideology that we’ve been indoctrinated with… The great Lars says so, so it must be true… isn’t it??

“The woman stayed on the line with operators until the burglar confronted her, at which point she shot him”

“A homeowner shot the man who broke into his home”

“entered his residence carrying a knife, the report said. The resident shot the intruder”

Three for three on the homeowner front.
I love it when home invaders get shot.
Dead or wounded, it’s all good.

Usafvet509

I’d love some range time with that 😉

Toxic Deplorable B Woodman

Bubba, Thor, Julio, and Tiny (of the BTJT Prison Deli; tube steak sammiches smothered in man meat mayo a specialty) are going to LOVE Mr Chicago. Why? Because he was shot in the ass, and won’t be able to sit down to protect said ass.

Claw

Well, if you thought “The only good thing about being wounded in the buttocks is the ice cream”, you’d be wrong.

The best thing is all the complimentary remarks one gets from the BTJT Prison Deli about the Little Mermaid Band-Aid covering another hole the first time your britches drop./smile

Sapper3307

I paid $220 for a used mini-14 around 1985 with my savings from a paper route. And still have it.

David

Must be the world’s most inaccurate rifle, the A-Team used them in the series, fired seemingly millions of rounds, and never hit anyone. Ruger shoulda sued them for defamation.

The latter picture…oh, my. Pretty close to perfection there.

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

I watched the first A-Team season 1/episode 1 when it first appeared on TV where the jeep turned over with the millions of rounds fired without hitting anyone as mentioned by Davids above comment. I stopped watching it until last year or the year before they were running re runs of the show and I watched all the seasons. When the movie came out years later, Mr. T didn’t like the violence in the flick and mentioned that the original series was set up as a fun flick. I never saw the movie though. Only their US Army nemisis was killed while the team were boarding a chopper and the team responded by destroying an occupied house where the enemy was.

Almost bought one in the mid seventies.
The .223 REM vs 5.56 NATO argument turned me away until they offered 7.62×39 cal.
That thing will eat the dirtiest Russian surplus ammo you can find.

RCAF-CHAIRBORNE

Post-War Russian ammo is some of the cleanest commie ammo I find, especially when compared to Albanian or Paki….yeech
I found Czech surplus to be the best in terms of consistency, accuracy and fouling.
That’s why I love my Mini-30, dirt cheap to shoot and packs a bigger punch

Jeff LPH 3, 63-66

That perp in Uptown should have stayed downtown, butt
why did the homeowner shoot him in the butt instead of center mass. Sounds like the perp was running away butt I don’t know the whole story so I really shouldn’t butt in on something I’m not sure of.

Ret_25X

I thought the IL FOID scam had been declared unconstitutional last fall….

As most laws are in IL, as the constitution means nothing to the leftist hacks that run the state…

Ex-PH2

No, it wasn’t and that is why Illinois has a growing number of sanctuary counties.

Eden

It wasn’t in any news report, but my cousin’s widow was in a very similar situation as the one near Dallas the other night, but this was in Oklahoma. Thankfully, the would-be perp didn’t try to break the door down when she went for her gun instead of answering the door. I’m also very thankful she didn’t decide to get rid of all of the guns after my cousin committed suicide at a gun range last year.
