Silly Seymour and the Black Helicopters of JSOC

| March 12, 2009

Here’s another lunatic conspiracy charge from the famed buffoon Seymour Hersh.

Investigative reporter Seymour Hersh dropped a bombshell on Tuesday when he told an audience at the University of Minnesota that the military was running an “executive assassination ring” throughout the Bush years which reported directly to former Vice President Dick Cheney.

If Dick had an assassination ring why was he shooting lawyers in the face with birdshot? (Other than that he was a lawyer and probably needed shooting)

So, tell us more Mr. Hersh. Who are these assassins?

Hersh replied, “After 9/11, I haven’t written about this yet, but the Central Intelligence Agency was very deeply involved in domestic activities against people they thought to be enemies of the state. Without any legal authority for it. They haven’t been called on it yet.”

Hersh then went on to describe a second area of extra-legal operations: the Joint Special Operations Command. “It is a special wing of our special operations community that is set up independently,” he explained. “They do not report to anybody, except in the Bush-Cheney days, they reported directly to the Cheney office. … Congress has no oversight of it.”

Wow, I bet that would be news to LTG Stan McChrystal who commanded this assassin cabal for most of the Bush-Cheney years!

First Seymour, JSOC is not an independent Cheney kill squad. They are subordinate to Special Operations Command and they get more Congressional oversight than they want or need.

Of course Hersh isn’t the first “journalist” who got their panties in a wad over JSOC. In a June 2006 Newsweek article JSOC was described thusly:

June 26, 2006 issue – No one would have mentioned his name at all if President George W. Bush hadn’t singled him out in public. Lt. Gen. Stanley McChrystal, West Point ’76, is not someone the Army likes to talk about. He isn’t even listed in the directory at Fort Bragg, N.C., his home base. That’s not because McChrystal has done anything wrong—quite the contrary, he’s one of the Army’s rising stars—but because he runs the most secretive force in the U.S. military. That is the Joint Special Operations Command, the snake-eating, slit-their-throats “black ops” guys who captured Saddam Hussein and targeted Abu Mussab al-Zarqawi.

Of course Hersh wasn’t about to stop at simple hyperbole like “slit-their-throats “black ops” guys”. Oh no, he had to go full “black helicopter” conspiracy on us.

“It’s an executive assassination ring essentially, and it’s been going on and on and on,” Hersh stated. “Under President Bush’s authority, they’ve been going into countries, not talking to the ambassador or the CIA station chief, and finding people on a list and executing them and leaving. That’s been going on, in the name of all of us.”

That’s pretty scary shit there Seymour … but it does beg a simple question.

If Bush and Cheney had total control of “an executive assassination ring”; why didn’t they ventilate you and dozens of other “journalist” pains in their collective ass a long time ago?

Chirp, chirp…

Or maybe you’re just full of shit?

Seymour and his ilk have a wide spread group of believers. Every state has a facility for the criminally insane which houses the only people who would believe one word from nuts like Seymour, and lately the Lame Stream Media has joined the believer crowd.

That’s what I could never figure out. If Bush/Chaney had so many hit squads why are so many public enemies of America still walking around. No one in the public would miss them and they’re family’s would be so happy they wouldn’t report them missing. Maybe that’s it, they only killed people no one would miss.

Caroline

Some one should let this guy know the Unit is just a TV show. Although maybe Scott Foley is on a super secret hit squad, no one would ever suspect him…or would they….hold on I have to get my tin foil hat.

Raoul

Stanley McChrystal any relation to Dave McChrystal?

Ray

Stay tuned for his new movie “The Bourne Stupidity”

I thought part of Seymour’s comment shows his igornance.

“They do not report to anybody, except in the Bush-Cheney days, they reported directly to the Cheney office. They did not report to the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff or to Mr. [Robert] Gates, the secretary of defense.”

That’s quite a bombshell since no combatant commands report to the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

http://www.jcs.mil/chairman/chairman_resp.html

The Goldwater-Nichols DOD Reorganization Act of 1986 identifies the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff as the senior ranking member of the Armed Forces. As such, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff is the principal military adviser to the President. He may seek the advice of and consult with the other JCS members and combatant commanders. When he presents his advice, he presents the range of advice and opinions he has received, along with any individual comments of the other JCS members.

Under the DOD Reorganization Act, the Secretaries of the Military Departments assign all forces to combatant commands except those assigned to carry out the mission of the Services, i.e., recruit, organize, supply, equip, train, service, mobilize, demobilize, administer and maintain their respective forces. The chain of command to these combatant commands runs from the President to the Secretary of Defense directly to the commander of the combatant command. The Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff may transmit communications to the commanders of the combatant commands from the President and Secretary of Defense but does not exercise military command over any combatant forces.

Sounds like Seymour’s been watching the “Unit” too many times

Don’t say “Sea Spray” around Seymour…

UpNorth

Pssst, Seymour, over here man. I can get you over to see them in action. First you gotta put on this brown jump suit, then fix these sticks to your hat, so they look like, you know, deer antlers. Then you walk south from my place, through the woods, blowing on this call, sounds like a deer, man. They’ll never know it’s a brave investigative reporter like you. Just keep walking and blowing the call, I’m sure you’ll find them, eventually.
God, I bet he checks under his bed every night for IED’s too. What a whack job.

Snowman

Hey UpNorth:

I have just da place in da U.P. for dis, eh?

You betcha. You bring him, we’ll take care of dis POS.

UpNorth

Snowman, ya, eh? About 15 miles south of Marquette, if the snow ever melts. I’ll get him dressed and primed, and let him off on US 2, with directions to just go north.

SmokeyBehr

I think Sy has been cavorting around with the 9-11 truthers and reading alt.conspiracy.black.helicopters way too much.

Snowman

UpNorth:

Now, you know that US 2 runs east/west! Let him thumb his way over to Crystal Falls and we’ll take him into da woods, der, by da loggin trail, and den we give him a running start.

You betcha.

Den I come over and we have some Trenary Toast and listen to Conga Se Menne.

UpNorth

Snowman, I thought I’d let him get some exercise on his way to you. I think he’d make it about 5 steps down the logging trail, before he had a heart attack, or started squealing for his mommy. The toast sounds great, it’s been a long time since I was in the U.P., eh?

Snowman

UpNorth…send me an email.

Frankly Opinionated

Sheesh! It’s a wonder that he didn’t tie in Blackwater or Tepper Aviation or Task Force 4. This guy must have one hell of a comic book collection. Maybe he would like to do some poking around at that Clandestive RANGER Camp, (James E. Rudder), way out in the boonies at Eglin AFB that has its own airstrip, Gator Lounge, and masquerades as a “RANGER School”, yeah right, Ranger School……….

Look at Seymour Hersh’s batting average – he doesn’t shoot from the hip, and he bats 1000. You guys need to quit drinking the kool aid and take a look at how far we sank as a country in the period 2001-2009. They have a name for the inability to take a good, hard look at one’s self (or one’s country): narcissism (or in it’s full-blown form, sociopathic disorder).

Joe Bfstplk

“If Bush and Cheney had total control of ‘an executive assassination ring’; why didn’t they ventilate you and dozens of other ‘journalist’ pains in their collective ass a long time ago?”

Answer: Because people like Hersh who simply report aren’t that important, and can too easily be dicredited…BUT Senator Paul Wellstone was a different matter altogether

UpNorth

#17, Batting a 1000? That is to laugh, loudly and long. Seymour has no clue what JSOC is or what it does. BDS is still with us, even after the coronation.

From Joe (post #17)to “Up North”. I do apologize – Seymour Hersh issued a clarification – he says we’ve actually been assasinating people for years without any kind of due process, that’s nothing new, it’s just that he used the provocative term “executive hit squad” to describe what’s been going on. But otherwise everything he said stands. I don’t know who JSOC is “supposed” to report to, but have you ever heard of clandestine government agencies that don’t always do what they are supposed to do? The fact that a bunch secretive government types who tend to ignore the constitution call Hersh the “closest thing American journalism has to a terrorist” means he must be doing something right….

Joe

Google News reports: “CIA Director Leon Panetta has terminated a “very serious” covert program the spy agency kept secret from Congress for eight years”. Could it be the covert “executive hit squad” reporting to Cheney that some of you said could not possibly exist because JSOC is supposed to report to…whoever, the chain of command is supposed to be blah, blah blah? I await further details with great interest.

OldTrooper

Seymour Hersh is a joke amongst morons. That anyone would believe his babbling is astonishing in its own right.

I tell ya what; any of you tin foil hatters, that believes this crap, I have some beach front property I could sell you real cheap, plus give you a discount certificate on some carbon credits I just printed up. Joe, anonymous, I’ll set some aside especially for you two.

Joe

Hey Old Trooper – Pulitzer Prize, Polk Award. I suppose My Lai and the misuse/fabrication of intelligence to justify the Iraq War are complete fictions? I think YOU need to adjust the tin foil on your hat…….

Fair argument you outline in This ain't Hell, but you can see it from here » Blog Archive » Silly Seymour and the Black Helicopters of JSOC . Intriguing to read the post and alternate perspectives expressed by commenters on some other web sites.

He got the Pulitzer for breaking the My Lai story, but now he just needs to retire.
