Air Force Academy Professor Arrested for Internet Child Luring

Captain Paul Sikkema, who taught ethics at the Air Force Academy in 2017, was arrested for luring a child on the internet. If law enforcement is involved in something like this, there’s a possibility that he was caught as a result of a predator netting operation.

A U.S. Air Force Academy professor has been arrested on the charge of luring a child on the internet, according to police in Colorado.
Capt. Paul Sikkema, who teaches philosophy at the service academy, was recently arrested by investigators from the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office on a felony charge.
The charge is a class four felony and generally involves an adult knowingly communicating with a child under 15 years old. During the online communications, the adult usually describes sexual conduct and seeks to meet up in person.
As a part of such an operation, a team of people act as “decoys”, pretending to be underage children. In their interaction with the adult that wants to get with them, the decoy says things designed to get the adult to take courses of actions thinking that they are dealing with a real deal minor.
If you want to get a good idea of how something like this goes down, there are videos on YouTube titled, “Hansen Vs Predator”. This is one scenario. Another one is that he could’ve been reported by a parent or other adult.

“Paul Sikkema’s affidavit reports he was messaging and texting a deputy posing as a 14 year old girl in January.”
“Those messages started on a website. Sikkema reportedly asked the person he thought was a 14 year old girl if she was “into older guys” and asked “are you a virgin?”
“He allegedly than began describing sexual acts he wished to do with the 14 year old girl and asked for her address.”
“Deputies were able to charge him with luring a child because the fictional girl was 14, and he reportedly described explicit sexual conduct he was hoping to engage in, and also tried to persuade her to meet up to have sex.”
“Hi, I’m Chris Hansen from Dateline NBC. Why don’t you have a seat over there?”
They need to offer every perp they catch some time alone in a booth with bulletproof walls where they are offered poison, a razor blade or a pistol to try and save taxpayers the expense of feeding, clothing and housing the vermin during their trials, convictions and confinement.
Times like this our culture should encourage seppuku. Or scaphism.

He taught ethics? How very, very ironic.
Hope the military justice system takes a run at him (since he used a phone/Internet to do it, there is also federal civilian jurisdiction), but they seem content to let the civilian side run with charges nowadays.
When I was active duty and we had a class regarding the UCMJ, it was pointed out that if you committed a crime that falls under both civil and military jurisdiction, the DoD is more than happy to let the civil authorities try and punish you.
…Then, once you’re done with the civil sentence, JAG comes in and charges you with the UCMJ violation.
Double jeopardy? Maybe. One of the other risks of serving your nation.
That’s totally how it should be. Just seems that for whatever reason they haven’t been doing that lately. Maybe it is to prevent double jeopardy claims. I know federal and state prosecutors very rarely pursue charges at both levels, preferring to charge it out in one of the other even if both have standing to charge it.
There’s a very simple way to avoid all this.

Idiot. State prisons are rumored to me much harsher than Federal pens, and child molesters are at the bottom of the food chain.
The federal sentences are longer, but from what I hear from people that have worked in state prisons and then gone to federal pens, the fed side is very soft. “Club Fed” isn’t a misnomer.
