AOC – VA not Broken, Provides Top Notch Care

| April 24, 2019

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Photoshop or real pose? (The Maine Wire)

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez references what her parents said with regards to things that aren’t broken… If’ aint broke, don’t fix it. And, according to her, the VA “aint” broke. What’s more? She argues that they’re providing top-notch care.

As a whole, that’s debatable. The quality of service is going to depend on the VA hospital and VA CBOC. The quality of the team assigned to a veteran is also going to play a role. Some facilities and teams are going to provide very good service; others have plenty of room for improvement. Veterans, the users of the system, provided some of the recommendations that President Trump ultimately pushed for.

From Fox News:

“That is the opening approach we have seen when it comes to privatization, it’s the idea that this thing that isn’t broken, this thing that provides some of the highest quality care to our veterans somehow needs to be fixed, optimized, tinkered with until we don’t even recognize it anymore,” she said, in comments first reported by The Washington Examiner.

“They are trying to fix the VA for pharmaceutical companies, they are trying to fix the VA for insurance corporations, and, ultimately they are trying to fix the VA for a for-profit healthcare industry that does not put people or veterans first,” she said. “And so we have a responsibility to protect it.”

Ocasio-Cortez’s comments were aimed at Trump administration efforts to expand choice and private health care options in the VA health care system, particularly via the MISSION Act — signed into law by President Trump last year.

The article continues on to talk about how Bernie Sanders is pushing to implement Medicare-for-all. Other candidates, for the Democratic nomination, appear to be hopping onboard with this plan.

People might ask, “Have they lost their collective minds?” Well, they’re catering to the younger voters, as well as to where the Democratic Party has shifted. This segment of the population is not as hostile to socialism, or its creep into our society, as we are. Some actually think it’s a good thing.

The Democratic Party is the free candy van for America’s youngest, stupidest voters and (God forbid) the 16 and 17 year olds they want to allow the right to vote.

and don’t forget the baby rapers and other assorted felons serving time, and even the boston bomber, believe it or not.

it’s so bad that cher has now for the second time in as many weeks started sounding rational. strange times we live in, friends.

Tell the folks at the Manchester VA that, AOC. IIRC, they had to shut down one OR due to FLIES.

I’ve only had good experiences with the Manchester VA…and I still wouldn’t let them put me under the knife.

Head over to the White River Junction V.A —-A+.

Beat me to it, thebsig. This is just a ploy to prop up the Dem’s argument for single payer health care.

Ex-PH2

Well, Little Miss Knowsitall hasn’t spent even a second of her time on a wait list for major medical care, the way people do in the UK. If you need something outside basic medical care, such as expensive but necessary surgery, you’re on a wait list that will likely have your name come up after your funeral, UNLESS you have the money to pay for that instead of being put on the wait list.

She’s a bimbo. I shudder to think what will happen to her if she ever runs up against the Wall Called Reality.

UpNorth

She will never see a wait list, Ex. She’s one of those who will always have private healthcare, or, at the very least, a reserved place at the head of the long lines who have been waiting 6 months for their 15 minute appointment.

Jus Bill

Being a Congresscritter, doesn’t she get major procedures done at Bethesda?

UpNorth

She’s not smart enough to even be an independent, much less a conservative.

MSG Eric

Which VA does she go to? I’m guessing the rest of us want to use that one….

Ex-PH2

If only she could have the kind of socialist medicine program that the USSR gave to people who needed a doctor.

AnotherPat

The VA is not broken?

She needs to do some research before making that statement.

In 2009, the VA was paying disability benefits to 286 Service Members who claimed to have been Prisoner of War during Desert Storm/Desert Shield, yet the Department of Defense only acknowleged 21 surviving POWs from that conflict.

A similar discrepancy is with Vietnam POWs. Only 661 officially recognized prisoners returned from that war alive. But in 2009, 966 purported Vietnam POWs were getting disability payments.

Even though it has been 10 years since those figures came out, am wondering if the VA ever fixed that problem.

“More POW Claimants Than Actual POWs”

http://www.nbcnews.com/id/30168352/ns/us_news-military/t/ap-more-pow-claimants-actual-pows/

And now we have Veterans who can claimed disability benefits for high blood pressure, heart problems, diabetes, etc. based on Agent Orange exposure, even though they may have never been exposed to Agent Orange or have those afflictions because of poor eating habits, i.e. consuming junk and fast foods as well as being overweight:

“New Legislation Would Recognize Nine Diseases Caused By Agent Orange”

https://www.stripes.com/new-legislation-would-recognize-nine-more-diseases-caused-by-agent-orange-1.577351

It does not bother me that my tax dollars are paying disability payments to Service Members who actually deserve it. It bugs me that there are folks out there collecting disability for bogus claims who blame another factors for their illness in order to receive $$$$ (failure to take responsibilty for their self-induced afflictions).

AnotherPat

Forgot to add:

Or claim 100% Disability for PTSD and collect $3,000 a month (Wilted Willy’s Brother).

Ex-PH2

You want that birdbrain to do her OWN research? You child!

It’s a nice thought, but the closest thing she’s ever done to real research required intelligence, so she stopped, and went with her ‘feels’.

AnotherPat

Ex-PH2 commented:

How true!

I have many medical issues to include diabetes which is due more to genetics than anything else. I have a good diet that would never cause the disease. I have severe neurological issues that may be service connected, but the military lies about things they did to soldiers back in the 1970’s such as the forced vaccination for swine flu that caused thousands to get sick and have continued problems ever since. They only say that they gave it to, “some soldiers in Ft Dix,” where 10 died from complications. They were not the only ones. In many cases of agent orange exposure, they still lie about the numbers who were exposed and still deny some symptoms and illnesses could be related. I was never in country back then and am not among them.

But the new system for using private healthcare is replete with its own problems, mostly due to administration and implementation. I was on it and could not get care as the wait times to have anything approved, to include more than 6 visits in a calendar year for your primary care doctor makes it something less than desirable. It is better for me to travel the 100 miles to the nearest hospital. Even then the Tucson hospital has major problems, being listed near the bottom in quality ratings overall.

I would like to see some of these representatives who all believe they are the entitled class have to deal with all this!

Medicare for all means “Medicaid” for all.
Means testing, filial laws (NH pay attention) and very poor care.

Medicare is not free. $135.50 a month for only 80% coverage. You have to have a way of paying the other 20%. Twenty percent of a hip replacement is big dollars. Twenty percent of open heart surgery is beyond big dollars.

VA needs to remain for veterans only and void of political football. Non veterans can qualify by spending some time in uniform. Pretty simple requirement.

Thunderstixx

You’re absolutely right that it will be Medicaid
for all.
Ask anyone on Medicaid if they want to be on it, not one of them will say yes.
I had my own DME company for a few years and got into a pissing contest with Medicare and Medicaid in WI and ended up closing the business because I didn’t have an attorney on staff.
these clowns have no idea what they are doing with our society, I mean none.
They all want to live in this make believe world where things that simply annoy them have to be banned and the people that annoy them have to be ostracized and pilloried on social media until their lives are completely ruined.
I see it as another sign of the lack of any kind of a spirituality in today’s youth.
The problem with not believing in God or at least a higher for of being and intelligence is that you will believe in anything.
As I mentioned here before, those parents that had to evict their kid from living in their basement got exactly what they wanted with him and then all of a sudden they didn’t like what they had created.
If it was up to me I wouldn’t have had his parents evict him, I would have told them that they had to live in the basement and pay him rent just for being some of the stupidest parents in history…
Trigglypuff is indicative of the intelligence level and maturity these kids have nowadays..

And, in closing, STOP putting that jackasses picture on this site… They don’t make enough brain bleach to get that stupid bitch out of my brain after just a glance at it….
God I hate that bitch, it’s indicative of all that is wrong with America today and should join Trigglypuff on the asheap of history…

ArmyATC

Not to mention the steadily rising numbers of doctors who refuse to take on patients who have Medicare/Medicaid because they can’t get paid in anywhere near a timely manner.

Ex-PH2

Not defending the VA FHCCs that are low on the totem pole in regard to giving proper care to vets, but the one I go to is very good about providing proper health care.

In addition, if she had taken the time to find things out (snrrrtttt!), she’d know that the VA does provide for vets to get health care at local facilities, if they are not near a VA FHCC.

But she’s a googly-eyed idiot who can’t see past the end of her nose, even with those fashion frames she wears. And I do wish she’d stick her nose back where it belongs – her own lap.

That pic of her… was it taken after IDCSARC “tapped” her?

Girl is about as useful as a football bat…

The ‘lady’ doth [open her c*ckholster and let her stupidity out for the world to see] too much, methinks.
A little birdy told me that some VA hospitals are being forced to laterally move some of their best performers to lest productive healthcare regions.
Socialism: a system where everyone* can suffer equally!
(* unless you’re a minority under a reparations program or a well-connected member of the Party, YMMV, failures result in a premature case of death.)

Roh-Dog

Oh! Just thought of something….
Using the whole ‘world has 12 years’ nonsense, maybe a mismanaged VA is retributive justice for things like; rolling around oppressing muzzies in a Stryker getting 4 miles to the gallon, dumping waste at sea, dropping bombs that’re made from petrochemicals, DADT, tranny bands, being 1%…

SSG Bison

For the most part, except for primary care, my experiences with the VA have been positive since we started getting the people back from Afghanistan. This is my most current story.
I had a Mental health appointment for April 1st (yeah April fool’s day). I have been having a lot of issues lately and really needed to talk to someone. Well, I called the night before on the 31st of March to verify my appointment. On the 1st I drove the almost 60 miles to the VA and was told when I arrived the Doctor was not there and the appointment had been cancelled. Very bad timing as I almost lost it over the situation I was in. Very hurtful and if I didn’t have children to care for I might have joined the 22. I am thankful for my family but the VA needs to be more careful how they deal with some of our folks.

11B-Mailclerk

Thank you for sticking around and toughing it out.

Roh-Dog

I can’t promise the ruck will get lighter but I can guarantee you’ll get stronger.
Oh, and don’t let the bastards get you down.

Someone made this comment on one of the news medias:

“She runs for office and gets about 16,000 votes total. That’s 16,000 folks. She was a bartender because she couldn’t get a job with her degree in economics. She’s now one of the biggest voices in the Democratic party. Are we scared yet?”

😎

D

She received more than 110K votes in the general election: https://www.nytimes.com/elections/results/new-york-house-district-14

AnotherPat

Thank You, D!

I provided a cut and paste from another news Website…and thought the number was low…and now I know!

UpNorth

She got 16,000 in the primary, because Joe Crowley, the incumbent dem, didn’t take her seriously. I wonder how Joe feels, getting his ass kicked by this ignoranus?

11B-Mailclerk

The VA system far exceeds the quality of anything they will ever deliver with “single payer” / “universal health care” / “Medicare for all” / socialism.

So to her, it probably -is- “good”.

5th/77th FA

Speaking of which, where is IDCSarc? We haven’t heard from the boy in awhile. Has be been busy hitting AOC? Is he now her ob/gyn specialist? Is that why she thinks the care is very good?

Sadly for our children and grandchildren the likes of AOC are only going to increase….The Horror.

Eric Rearden

She is not that far off. The VA provided good care. There are issues in any health care system. Unfortunately the VA’s problems get maximum exposure in the media and then agreement by every vet who has a gripe (legitimate or not) with the VA. Jury is out on the Mission Act. If the intent is to treat every veteran the same, then it flies in the face of the reason the VA exists at all: to care for those disabled by injury or disease while serving their country. Nobody should get carte blanche care for life just because they served a few years without any service connected disabilities.
