Active-duty transgender troops have until 6 June to begin voluntarily separating from the armed forces, Reserves can wait until 7 July. Those who do so will receive an honorable discharge from military service and separation pay, which is fair. Those who do not will be processed for involuntary separation.

Transgender troops who don’t self-report will have medical records reviewed

By CAITLYN BURCHETT

WASHINGTON — Troops with a history of gender dysphoria or who show symptoms of the condition will be subject to medical record reviews if they don’t self-report, according to a memo issued Thursday by the Pentagon.

Medical screenings will be the Defense Department’s primary means of involuntarily booting out transgender troops who do not self-identify for a discharge from military service, according to a senior defense official who spoke on condition of anonymity. The medical screenings will be conducted through the department’s individual medical readiness program, which is executed on a rolling basis to assess whether a service member is able to deploy on a mission.

But unit commanders can also initiate medical screenings of service members suspected of having gender dysphoria if they do not self-identify as the Pentagon works to weed out transgender people. Gender dysphoria is the distress that a person feels because their assigned gender and gender identity don’t match. The medical condition has been linked to depression and suicidal thoughts.

Well…Bye!

Old tanker

Y’all take care now.

While I feel for those who truly suffer from the mental illness of gender dysphoria, we do not need any mentally ill folks in the military.
If they are mentally ill before joining, out the door.
If they become mentally ill during (especially due to the stresses of combat service) – care for them but move them someplace not combat-critical.
YMMV

I thought my Drill Instructors were bat shit crazy.

Geez, considering what they had to put up with on their day job…

The V.A is gonna be busy.

Gender Dysphoria is not a rated condition for the VA.

STSC(SW/SS)

The transsexuals are being transitioned back to civilian life.

Prior Service (RET)

While I’m happy to see them go, I think they should get sufficient time to actually arrange their separation like any other Soldier exiting the service. All the mandatory classes, final medical appointments, etc. Do right by them, then give ‘em a hard push through the door to civilian life. Otherwise, Woo Hoo!!

Well, it does say ” begin” separation, so.those dates aren’t when they have to be gone.

I believe for the Army, normal separation timelines apply.

It’s not even the mental part, it’s the burden on the services to medically maintain such conditions. If you are or will be in a non deployable status for over 6 months you are subject to medical seperation from service. I don’t see what the problem is with that. Why should your auto rifleman have to carry even more ammo for you because you can’t for an extended period. But wait, Retired, not every body humps ammo. Yeah, well, one day they have to. Train like your gonna fight!!!!!!

“not every body humps ammo”

I see what you did there.

Retired Grunt

Actually, the term humping is or at least was used by infantry types to describe our foot marches. Given the introduction of females into these units I’m unaware if the term is still in common use.

My rifle company and I had some long “humps” in the jungle covered mountains of the Viet of the Nam. I once had to tell my men that we had to make a 14 klick hump back to the firebase as no birds were going to be available to extract us. I often refer to “humping” a rifle and a rucksack there.

The artillery men used the term to refer to the onerous duty of carrying those 100 plus pound shells to the guns. My 81mm mortar section likewise had to do their ammo “humping.”

But, but I suspect they still likely do their share of “humping.” And will continue to do so in their deviant civilian lives.

Sometimes I simply neglect to remember that even though we all served we all didn’t use the same terminology. I’m store if in were on an Air Force flight line listening to mechanics and crew chiefs talking I’d be as lost as non prior service Lieutenant on a non computer aided land nav course.

Maybe we will get lucky and Gavin Newsome will make it a platform item for running in 2028.
