While vacationing in Africa, Pinocchio has his longtime wish to be a real boy suddenly and unexpectedly granted. (Gary Larson/The Far Side)

Hoping everybody is having a Good Friday. Easter is in a couple of days. If you still have snow on the ground, and have kids expecting to look for eggs, you might be able to get away with skipping the coloring part. Well, anyway, here’s your weekend open thread, enjoy your weekend.

Congrats Cannoncocker.
After 2 hours I got bored…and you got luck.

26Limabeans

If only I hadn’t taken a nap.
Congrats Arty. Bear your cross.

5th/77th FA

Tanks Bros. I had already taken a nap, piddled outside, made a eggs salad sammich on toast, read and commented on the other two threads, and as Roh-Dog pointed out, got lucky. All this was since the time frame that the Friday WOT was supposed to have dropped.

The Lord looks after drunks and fools and I am highly qualified on both counts.

Sometimes, as we all know, it is better to be lucky than good.

The Stranger

Of course it’s better to be lucky than good. If you’re good, people expect it all the time. That sounds too much like work!

NHSparky

As long as it wasn’t avocado toast.

Who the fuck ever thought that was a good idea?

Tallywhagger

Huh? Ah fuck, where did I put those hog rinds?

Roh-Dog

Second?

Roh-Dog

Off to work, damn shame.
Have a Happy Easter y’all!

Club Manager, USA ret.

Don’t overlook Chag Pesach Samech or Happy Passover.

rgr1480

I was wondering what kinda sammich that was …. till I got to your “Happy Passover.”

still chuckling to myself….

5th/77th FA

Bam Bam Bam!!! The vertical envelopment has been negated by a massive Time On Target Assault by the King of Battle. Pieces and parts of parachute silkies and sunken Naval Vessels are littering the field.

Let be said….Let It be Written. Another FIRST on the Coveted TAH Friday Open Threads.

Live Long and SUFFER Dickweeds/Weedeses!

The Stranger

Why would there be naval vessels on a field? You arty guys…

HMC Ret is usually nipping at our heels rowing his little dinghy.

Speaking of which, where is my man? And Commissioner Wretched is MIA with the Trivia.

NHSparky

Newsflash, cannon jockey.

Never do from 2 miles away what you can do from 2 continents away.

Nuke the fuckers till they glow, then shoot ’em in the dark!

5th/77th FA

Roger that Sparky. Remember I did spend some time playing with the Sergeant and Lance Missile Systems.

And I have constantly advocated having the boys and girls at Minot handle the ME problem.

11B-Mailclerk

The 8inch howitzer was nuke-capable, correct?

HMC Ret

Thanks for asking, 5th/77th FA. Negative stuff going on here in NW Florida. My Sister In Law died Monday night. Why? Many chronic health problems but exact cause unknown. I’m concerned about my brother’s mental health over this. He’s the one who gets both over 100 Lortab PLUS Fentanyl from two doctors. There is no possibility he has not developed an addiction. Got bad feeling about how his wife’s death will affect him. Say a prayer for him if you are so inclined

The wife’s very good friend died Monday. She went into the hospital for triple bypass 20 days ago, got sepsis which the docs couldn’t knock down and her BP tanked. Her body simply died from infection.

Hey, 5th/77th FA, remember to lord over us mindless toads. Congratulations on your coup. May you reign supreme. You have done very well, coming in first many, many times. Way to go, dude.

5th/77th FA

11B; yes the 8 in did have the capability to launch small yield nuc shells. They were kept in the same secure storage depot as the warheads for the Sergeant, Honest John, and Lance Systems. Rumor control had it that in some War Plans, Launch/fire authority was in the hands of local commanders v NCA. Glad we never had to find out.

HMC Ret, our prayers will be offered up for you, your family, and the family of your wife’s friend. If your brother is not addicted, he should be. Sounds like he is getting enough to have several people strung out. We lost the wife of one of my most favorite Comrade-in-Arms in a very similar manner last fall. Routine by-pass/stint surgery gone bad. The hospital never did say what exactly happened, but the words low BP and infection was mentioned by the nurses on several occasions over that weekend.

Let me be the FIRST to tell you to hang tuff and that we are here for you and yours. I just got real lucky Friday past.

11B-Mailclerk

Good Friday to you all.

Visited the fantastic National Navy SEAL Museum in Ft Pierce FL Wednesday. This makes me a SEAL. Gotta go get a vest and hat.

5th/77th FA

Do you already have a doo rag, motor sickle, mirrored shades, tats, big chested Miss Thang, bling, and a service dog?

Don’t forget to set up the Go Fund Me page for raising awareness.

A most Blessed and Safe Good Friday and Easter Weekend to my Brothers and Sisters.

HMC Ret

Well, sj, if you went to the National Navy SEAL Museum on Wednesday, you can claim to have been in class # 041719.

Don’t forget the POW/MIA patch for your leather vest.

HMCS(FMF) ret

Gotta have stories about “top seekrit” missions and a buddy that dies in your arms to make it more “real”

Comm Center Rat

I just watched a video clip of Bill Dawson celebrating his 94th birthday yesterday. Dawson is the only living WW II frogman and graduated from class #001 at Fort Pierce. He served in a Combat Demolition Unit – the forerunner of today’s modern Navy SEAL Team. Dawson is also a retired Washington DC firefighter.

Breaking news from the swamp. NonCPOissimo Daniel Alan Bernath is still valiantly holding on in his fight to remain dead. Film at 11.

Now over to the weather…

rgr769

He has been holding altitude in straight and level attitude at -6 AGL for quite some time now.

Skyjumper

I heard that Danny Boi is now at -0 AGL because even the black earth couldn’t put up with him any more & the worms were complaining too.

rgr769

Yes, but that isn’t an aeronautical term.

rgr769

Well then I don’t have a problem with his present elevation at 6 feet BGL.

The Stranger

Hell, they never applied in his case. He possessed a level of incompetence that was only exceeded by his arrogance. He was bragging on one of those pilot forums about how he would NEVER be the subject of an FAA investigation/report. WRONG!

It’s probably the first time he ever succeeded at something. Well, except for the time he expertly flew his plane to the crash site.
And since you guys brought it up:

There once was a lawer named Dan,
Who got himself thrown in the can,
He was finally let out,
Then went flying about,
And that’s when the shit hit the fan!

Hell, my phone 📱 knows the Saga of Bernath by heart!

John Robert Mallernee

Two hundred and forty-four (244) years ago, on 19 April 1775, a colonial militia of seventy-seven (77) men and boys stood on the village green at Lexington, Massachusetts, facing regular soldiers of the British Army, who were marching to Concord to seize the arsenal of guns and ammunition that were stored there, when the shot was fired “heard ’round the World”, beginning the American Revolutionary War for Independence.

The militia commander, Captain John Parker, told his men,

“Don’t fire unless fired upon.

But if they mean to have a war, then let it begin here.”

I recommend a couple of my favorite movies for today, i.e., “APRIL MORNING”, and Walt Disney’s “JOHNNY TREMAIN”.

John Robert Mallernee

Lest anyone ever forget, twenty-six (26) years ago, on Monday 19 April 1993, a church outside Waco, Texas was attacked, and its members murdered, by agents of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (i.e., FBI), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (BATF), using tanks and helicopters of the United States Army, and executing a warrant that was fraudulently obtained.

Learning the truth about the massacre is a difficult process, as our mainstream mass news media merely parrots the official version promoted by the United States government.

Lthrnck1775

A little disorganized and heavy handed yes… but that “church” was a nut-job cult and they were amassing an arsenal of illegal weapons ….so play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Lthrnck1775

rgr769

Except, it is a known fact that David Whathizname went into town every week and they (FBI and BATF) had the compound under surveillance from a house across the street and had an undercover agent inside the compound when the raid went down. But the SF trained BATF agents thought they were competent to conduct a commando raid. The BATF hoped they would get a big PR/news event before their efforts in Congress to get more funding.

Just An Old Dog

This, plus how many times are innocent American Children ,,, or even suspects going to be burned alive because LEOs use Gas or Smoke grenades that are KNOWN to be able to cause fires.

Yeahhhh I noticed there was a lack of seagull activity there. I was afraid to mention it. Maybe the bait was too good and he sensed a trap.

Nah, his momma probably cut off his internet cause he shit his britches again…

HMCS(FMF) ret

Probably lost access to the wifi at the Hammer and Sickle Soi-boi Cafe/Co-Op in Bezerkeley. Or, he had to give it up to house a family of 13 in is studio apartment in Oakland for the rest of the month.

Lars Taylor's Narcissism

I could explain. I saw a bunch of middle aged white guys wearing the red MAGA hats. I came up with a plan to tell them that orange man bad in a way that they could not threaten my world view with the facts. I walked into the middle of their group and yelled that orange man is bad.

Then I let’er rip, boy did I let’er rip! Not long after that, they left to get away from me. I could tell by how they looked at me that my plan worked. It was not until I felt lumps that I realized that I need to quit forgetting that I should not trust my farts.

This made my niece angry with me. I live in her basement. She grounded me again and left me without internet until such a time that my stink cleared the area. I was not far from her home when I did this. The stink just cleared. She restored my internet access, but I am still grounded, and I still can not have my soy.

Happy Pesach to those who celebrate Passover

Happy Easter to those that celebrate Easter

Happy and safe weekend to all

The Other Whitey

Assuming I don’t get fisted with forced overtime, I’ll be doing Protestant Easter Vigil at my wife’s church, Easter Sunday Mass at mine, probably some kind of family get-together, Easter eggs with the kids, and hopefully have some time for a few ongoing 1/48 scale projects. Plus there’s still plenty of leftovers from Khmer New Year last weekend, so we’ll be eating good!

Fyrfighter

Damn, I’m jealous TOW, especially about the food. I just came on shift this morning, so I get to have Easter with my crew.

Commissioner Wretched

I finally gave up waiting for the WOT and went home from work. Now I see I just missed being first; if only I’d stayed a few minutes longer!! Ah, well, such is life. So I present the weekly trivia column for all to enjoy (or scoff at, as you choose). Have a happy Easter, all! DID YOU KNOW…? Whose face is featured on the highest denomination of U.S. currency? By Commissioner Wretched Getting old is a two-edged sword. On the one hand, it’s nice that I’m still on this side of the dirt, still breathing, still getting about – or, as my brother says, “I’m vertical and I’m not on a ventilator.” However, there are things about reaching official senior-citizenhood that are troublesome. Things like becoming forgetful. Why is it, I wonder, that I can remember all the lyrics to my favorite song the year I graduated from high school (1975), but can’t remember why I walked into the kitchen just now? Or not remembering where I placed something, then deciding I lost it. Like my keys the other day. Ever notice that you talk to something that you’re looking for? “Come on, keys, I’ll give you a dollar if you come out now.” And of course, you find it in the last place you look. Of course you do. Who finds something and then keeps looking for it? Anyway, I guess getting along in my dotage is better than the alternative, so I shouldn’t complain. What I should do is get to this week’s trivia, freshly mined and refined and ready for you to enjoy! Did you know … … the first pricing game ever played on the iconic game show, “The Price is Right,” is still being played today, more than 46 years later? On that first show in September of 1972, the Any Number Game was played, and it’s still on the rotating list of games used on the show. Though prices have certainly changed since 1972, the basic object is the same – call out numbers 0 through nine, the first price you complete is the… Read more »

’bout time you showed up. We were getting concerned. Maybe I can be the FIRST to reply to you trivia post. Excellent job, again; not that we expected any different.

Got a phone call from my neighbor the other day (disabled Army Medic Vet). He asked if it was a bad time cause I seemed distracted and he was hearing background noise. I told him, nah it’s all good, I’m looking for my phone. Then I realized I was talking on it. My mind says I’m still doing fair, my body says, hold my beer and watch this.

I won’t be greedy, just send me a sack of them Madisons. I know you’re hoarding them.

Texas is still… we just play along with the rest of you to shut you up.

Hawaii was also a kingdom. And you thought the Kennedies were our only American royalty.

First off I’m retired so am usually not in a hurry to go anywhere so why stop looking after you find what you are looking for. Now before you get critical Commiss think about it, how many other things did you find that you either forgot or gave up on finding some time in the past while you were searching for what ever. If you keep on looking you discover a lot of other things, a lot of which fall into the category of old memories of the past, some are of the WTH is this and also you have the inevitable why the H am I saving this. The hunt after you find something becomes the objective, I’ve found an matching set of a cigarette lighter and case in stuff here that even had some old Phillip Morris and Camel’s unfiltered in the case, no I am not going to even think about smoking them. You also either look smarter or weirder if you don’t say that you found your keys in the last place you looked. Sounds a little better if you say, I’d left my keys on the dresser the other day and since I was there I thought I’d just look in one of the drawers for any loose change, found a dollar and a quarter while I was snooping, last thing I found there was a “I Like Ike Button” or such.

Has anyone else noticed that Easter egg hunts have morphed into some variation of egg drops? Instead of looking for hidden eggs, the young uns now stand by and watch a helicopter drop a load of brightly colored, candy filled, plastic eggs over a designated area. Now, instead of being sharp eyed you just have to be fast on your feet.

SITREP:

Been on vaca.

Flew to Savannah.

Drove to Charleston

Over the bridge to Patriots Point.

Visited USS Yorktown. And few interesting notes about visit. ZERO mention or evidence of DEAD former PH2 Daniel A. Bernath. His name was listed no where to be found. I targeted specific divisions, exhibits and displays. ZERO. Then I started poking around and ran into one volunteer who knew all about Danny Boy … Bernath was apparently barred from the ship and the USS Yorktown Association. I was not surprised to hear that.

Then off to Wilmington NC.

We are in Kill Devil Hills and on our way the Wright Brothers National Monument.

Virginia Beach later today to meet with MoH recipient buddy.

Drive back to NY FOB Sunday.

A Proud Infidel®™️

He got barred from the USS Yorktown as well. No surprise there, did he ever go anyplace without making himself completely unwelcome wherever he arrived?

Mason

Word is even Hell didn’t want to sign for him on arrival.

Mason

Yorktown is a great museum. I visited when I was TDY to Charleston AFB years ago. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.

Looks like they’re sinking the sub that is/was there, the USS Clamagore. Which is a shame. They had it open for tours when I went through. It was amazing to this land lubber to tour an Essex aircraft carrier (not even close to our largest), then tour the USCGC, and finally the WWII-era sub. Increasing levels of claustrophobia.

A Proud Infidel®™️

I toured Patriots Point myself a few years ago, went on all of the ships there. Touring the USS Clamagore reminded me of part of Marvel Cave in Missouri called “Tall Man’s Headache, Fat Man’s Misery”!

Some updated news about flu season – one of the longest in a decade:

https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2019/04/19/Flu-season-stretches-to-longest-in-a-decade/4701555688535/

I had the second strain of flu that is going around this past week – boy did it kick my ass! Down and out for four full days, today is the first day since Monday that I actually feel good enough to get out.

If you have health issues and feel like you’re coming down with the flu, don’t hesitate and wait to be seen by your PCM.

Ex-PH2

I think I was coming down with it when I got my flue shot. Five hours after the shot, I was a sick as a dog. I thought maybe it was just a reaction to the shot, but whatever it was, it did a number on me.

…Forgiveness of sin and eternal life.

Satan creates nothing, he only destroys.

Death is separation from God. We are all born, separated from God, by original sin.

The resurrection of Christ, overcoming death, and being seated at the right hand of God smites Satan from ever seeking redemption.

There is but one unforgivable sin, to blaspheme against the Holy Spirit.

Grace. It’s there for the taking.

Ah jeez… just like that, in a flash, Oral Roberts popped into my mind. I recommend that you do not put your hands on the radio and then move to prove your faith by sending money or handling snakes or anything more than accepting Jesus at his word.
