US Census Citizenship Question Struck Down by Third Court

| April 5, 2019

Rick McKee is onto something with this cartoon. If the citizenship question is added to the census, people fear that many non citizens would refuse to participate. (Cartoon by Rick McKee)

President Trump wants to add the citizenship question to the U.S. Census. He has a plan for this requirement. The results of the census impact the number of representatives, and electors, each state has. Illegal aliens can influence both of these.

Most the information available on the census requirements suggests that they wanted people, living in an area, counted. Not much specifics with regards to who shouldn’t be counted. The census website does exempt foreigners here for a vacation, or for a short time, from being counted.

The Administration appealed the first two strike downs. The administration may also submit an appeal for this. But, with the first two appeals reaching the U.S. Supreme Court, this is already in motion for arguments before the justices.

Based on what I read, this may be a tough fight for the administration. What do you guys think?

From the National Law Journal:

Friday’s ruling by District Judge George Hazel in Maryland follows similar rulings out of California and New York. All three rulings found Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross decided to add the question despite evidence provided by Census Bureau officials that it would likely significantly depress the response rates in noncitizen and Latino communities.

You can read more at the National Law Journal. Residence scenarios from the Census website can be read here.

I think it’s nuts that apportionment of representatives is based on a count of people here illegally.

Legal resident aliens who comply with the law should have no fear of listing their status. Those here illegally, if they are not counted for purposes of Congressional or State Legislature representation, then I say… Good!

OMG! I was first! I’ve never been first!

Change notice to my original post, 2nd paragraph: Replace “Legal citizens” with “Legal resident aliens”.

The Other Whitey

Indeed. How the hell is this even a debate?

Dennis - not chevy

Am I the only one who remembers the ’60’s TV commercials reminding aliens to renew their whatever documents? As I was a dumb kid from the sticks, I thought aliens referred to ET’s or ALF’s.

SFC D

I remember asking my Dad “What’s a resident alien?” I was thinking something along the lines of Uncle Martin.

Interesting article that may tie in what you wrote.

“20 Metro Areas Are Home To Six-In-Ten Unauthorized Immigrants In U.S.”

https://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2019/03/11/us-metro-areas-unauthorized-immigrants/

“Most of the United States’ 10.7 million unauthorized immigrants live in just 20 major metropolitan areas, with the largest populations in New York, Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas-Fort Worth, according to new Pew Research Center estimates based on government data.”

“…Five of the 20 metros with the largest unauthorized immigrant populations are in California: Los Angeles, Riverside-San Bernardino, San Francisco, San Diego and San Jose. Three – Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, and Austin – are in Texas.”

Yes, I agree with President Trump..the citizenship question should be added to the U.S. Census. The only problem is, will those illegals even respond to a Census?

A Proud Infidel®™

The Mudda-fuckin’ liberals still screech about Foreign Interference getting President Trump elected, BUT they want illegal aliens to be counted in the Census AND be allowed to vote, further proof that liberalism is a Mental Disorder!!!

^this^. GMAFB…Sick….Sick….Sick of it!

Immigration reform: If you are not here legally, reform your ranks and march your happy asses right back to where you came from. If you don’t want to willingly march back to where you came from, put their happy asses on a tramp freighter and ship them back. It’s cheaper that way and you can get them further from the border.

It is bad enough that the working taxpayers of this country are supporting millions of low life dregs of society too sorry, lazy and good for nothing sum bitches that were born here. Why should we have to support some more that are known lawbreakers. “But what about the children,” My Scots-Irish hairy butt. I feel no sympathy for them either. You spread your legs or deposited your seed. You support them.

Again, for the congress critters that want this, it is all about preserving their power.

You don’t work, you don’t eat. You ain’t here legally…..LEAVE.

This debate has been going on since 1787 we got the threefifth clause from those guys and have paid dearly for it every since.besides in most states at that time you had tohave money or property to vote

Toxic Deplorable B Woodman

Huh? The 3/5ths ruling was in relation to SLAVES, not aliens. Not even illegal aliens.

Ret_25X

yes. the democrats wanted to count slaves as citizens with rights. this allows them more representatives in DC.

See the game?

District(FED) Judge George Hazel was nominated by the “esteemed” former president, B. Hussein Obama. In his finding he says that the citizenship question is “arbitrary and capricious”. What is either “arbitrary” or “capricious” about counting the actual number of real citizens living in L.A.,NYC, Houston or any place else? If illegals don’t respond to the census because they think CBP will track them if they do, so much the better.

The Census Questionnaire has a question about the number of toilets in your residence, but the assh*les feel offended about a citizenship question. WTFO !

Illegal aliens are big business with a huge economic impact. Government spending for law enforcement, education, housing, and all the way down to cheap labor in the kitchen of a restaurant. Who wants to stop the gift that keeps on giving?

In 100 years, or sooner, there will be talk of illegal immigrant reparations.

MM you hit the target. To paraphrase the Jackie Cogan character, played by Brad Pitt, in the 2012 movie Killing Them Softly: America is not a country it’s a business.

CA, NY, MD have a deep concentration of illegals. My guess it that Texas’ concentration has dropped because they have a voter id law…ha. I worked for the Census in 1990 while in college. Pensacola sure had some young mama’s. But I didn’t run into to many illegals in them thar trailor parks. I counted around 6k people. We need that question if we are to honor our forefathers and how smart they were. Period.

The demo rats don’t want this added to the census because they are afraid the nazis (us non demo rats) would be banging down their doors with our Mausers in the middle of the night and asking for their papers. I wonder if this also applies to the Alien types of peeps that abducted Barney and Betty Hill in the early sixties.

my point was that the the higher the population the more electoral votes a state gets. That is why four of the first five presidents were referred to as black presidents.big state vs small state, north vs south electoral collage

Things that are bad for Democrats are apparently unconstitutional. . .
