Not a banner day for the Navy. Drugs, meltdown former Lab Techs, and now this.

by Tribune Media Wire
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Naval Air Station Oceana was no longer on lockdown after a security incident at the base where one sailor was shot and another was killed by security personnel, WTKR reported.

The shooting happened around 6:45 a.m.

Officials in Virginia Beach said the victim, a female sailor, was taken to Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital with multiple gunshot injuries.

The suspected shooter was a man in the U.S. Navy and the shooting was domestic in nature, WTKR reported. Base officials said he was carrying a single handgun with no additional ammo.

I was considering holding this for tomorrow’s FGS, but there is absolutely nothing that feels good about it.

Ed, I heard this about this story this morning.

https://wtkr.com/2019/04/05/female-sailor-injured-after-shooting-at-nas-oceana-shooter-dead/

What is interesting is what the above article mentioned:

“The base has a no weapons policy. We do random and periodic inspections for prohibited items. How the Sailor was able to get a weapon on base is part of the investigation.”

How the Sailor was able to get a weapon on base? Is the spokesperson for the Base serious? If the Base conducts random and periodic inspections of weapons….

Sometimes I wonder what ever happened to common sense.

Additionally, an initial report stated that Base Security accidently shot the Sailor…in other words, they had no cause to shoot him.

Now the story has changed.

Gonna be interesting to read “The Rest of the Story”. Sadly, this is not that Base’s first encounter with troubled Sailors. If memory serves me correctly, there were questions about another Sailor being shot and killed by Base Security when he ran thru a barrior on the installation.

I love jet noise. Very sorry to hear about the shooting incident and loss of life.

Used to have a condo in the Dam Neck / General Booth AO.

Is there not one of us who knows weapons are prohibited on military installations? Little Rock AFB has a posted policy but I had to make an unscheduled trip there last week to the pharmacy. I unloaded the .357, placed it in a locked bun case inserted at the bottom of my tool container in the rear of the SUV. Got lucky in case of a search and was hoping if it occurred the locked case may save me. Had the bullets stashed someplace else. So the answer how the shooter brought the weapon on base is simple, had it in his vehicle (if it was a he and not a she). Is security at Oceana SP’s or rent-a-cops?

Homeboy gets mad at Ms Thang, sneaks a weapon onto a Naval Air Station (never a good idea), takes a few pot shots and gets his dumbass capped by Security. Did he set out to do suicide by SP? FTA..”multiple non life threatening minor wound to leg.” Dahell?

Noticed that per usual, the demon cat congress critters had to not let a crisis go to waste and chimed in. Kaine, Warner, Lucia…”monitoring the situation, staying abreast, and hearts out to victim.”

5th:

You are SO correct when you commented:

“Noticed that per usual, the demon cat congress critters had to not let a crisis go to waste and chimed in. Kaine, Warner, Lucia…”monitoring the situation, staying abreast, and hearts out to victim.”

Noticed the Governor/LT Gov and Attorney General are quiet?

Always a way to get almost anything on base. To do the kind of vehicle searches that are carried out at state prisons (in some states) would logjam base entrypoints. Let’s hope she recovers.

I’ve been on military bases with only a pass and drivers license required.
Although there is a sign that says your vehicle may be searched, I rarely see anyone searched.
So getting one on base really wouldn’t be that hard.
I doubt we’ll see a push for massive searches, other than a mirror under your car or truck after this random act of violence that had more to do with a scumbag obsessed with something about that woman.
