Coast Guard Families Hit by Furlough

Having been the target of furloughs and sequestration before, I can certainly empathize with our Coast Guard brethren. I was senior enough to ride those out and not feel a lot of pain- this was not the case of the junior personnel. The same and more must be affecting junior Coasties- not only not receiving a pay check, they are expected to report for duty as if nothing was wrong.

Of course they’ll be repaid as soon as our elected political leaders stop acting like children, and come to an agreement. This brinkmanship is hurting real people. Trump has made offers in good faith, but the other side refuses to negotiate until the government is funded. Trump refuses to finance the government until the wall is funded.

To help the Coast Guard personnel weather the storm, a five page tip sheet was disseminated by the Coast Guard Support Program, an employee-assistance arm of the service often known as CG SUPRT.

“While it may be uncomfortable to deal with the hard facts, it’s best to avoid the ‘hide your head in the sand’ reaction,” the tip sheet said. “Stay in charge of the situation by getting a clear understanding of what’s happening.”

This tip sheet offered some ideas, like hold a garage sale. Try baby sitting. Become a “mystery shopper.” All on the member’s own time, of course.

Despite these stellar recommendations, the document has subsequently been removed from the CG’s web site. Go figure.

Build the damn wall.

So does this mean I should drive over to the local Puddle Pounders station and offer gift cards to the local Aldi grocery?

Coast Guard pay was missed January 15th and only January 15th to date. The pressure is great on Congress to pass the legislation to pay them during the shutdown. This will happen and soon. The critters are feeling the heat. My guess is that it will happen this week. In the meantime, today marks day seven that the Coast Guard has been without pay.

Duffel Blog is on it:

The Coast Guard published a list of recommended actions today that its service members and their families can take to cope with the continuing government shutdown, including selling their bodily organs and taking part in extramarital prostitution.

damn what’s a slightly abused kidney worth these days? I got student loans I need to pay off.

David

If your kidney looks like my liver must, the only student loan you could pay off is the $5 you borrowed from a 9 year old relative. Maybe.

Love 4-Legged critters, but had to do a doubletake on this story:

“Pet Food Pantry Reaching Out To Federal Employees Affected By Shutdown”:

Saw this while perusing a rescue site. We gotta look after deserving old folks, children and critters. They can’t look after themselves. For sure gotta look after dawgs. Especially dawgs that can’t complete four full 1/4s of a ball game. Dawgs who have let us down on several occasions. Yes even those dawgs.

The ones who are being hurt by this petty political shut down are to be commended. The ones who caused this B/S need a swift kick in the azz, or better yet, to be fired. As I posted on the other thread, have a God Daughter and her husband AD Coasties in DC. Both were formerly on interdiction & rescue duty in the Gulf. They are both working, have been offered help by the extended family and are ok for now. They were a little better prepared so are “weathering” the storm. We have allowed our elected representatives to become our rulers. This needs to change, and it needs to change now. The divisiveness in our country is being stirred up by both parties to keep us from seeing what the power holders are doing. Fund the government, fund the security of our country and pay the ones who have been working. The ones that haven’t been working, pay them a small stipend from Piglosi’s and Chuckie’s rat holed stash.

Other than that, it’s good to have AP back! rtr/hbtd/goarmybeatnavy

The inconvenience of not being paid for a bit is nothing compared to having family or loved ones murdered because some shithead politician has chosen foreigners over Americans.

Yeah, let’s keep funding the world, meaning the corrupt officials taking out their cut, instead of funding the Wall.

It’s all on Congress, and we all know it. Congress is beginning, finally, to understand that we know it. They are the ones who have played games with the budget for how many years now? A couple of decades?

They keep passing Continuing Resolutions and never get around to passing a budget, one of the few things they are required to do. And before anybody starts pointing fingers, this has been going on no matter which party controls either Congress or the White House. Plenty of blame to go around.

It’s about time someone puts a stop to this mess. Thank you, Donald Trump.

Lots of folks and organizations stepping up to plug the financial holes left by the ingrates in Congress.

Can I get congressmen as pallbearers at my funeral?

I need folks good at letting me down.

Chuckles Schumer (D-N.Y.) yesterday blocked a bill that would have paid the Coast Guard. So, we now have two names to affix to this absurdity: Pelosi and Schumer. The bills would easily pass to pay the Coasties if the bills got to a vote but their stance is to oppose Trump no matter what and not to compromise. Nice.
