Keep a Weather Eye on This One
Freshman Congress Critter Ms. Ocasio-Cortez is in the runaway horse state of mind, on a mad gallop with the bit in her teeth. https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/01/13/democrats-failing-to-control-alexandria-ocasio-cortezs-green-revolution/
Annoyed by not getting the enthusiastic support for her New Green Deal that she had expected from “fellow” Democrats, Ms. Cortez is not just champing at the bit. She had previously declared that she would run for President in 2020, until someone told her that there is a minimum age requirement for that job. (Thank you, Tom Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Sam Adams, et al.!!!) I believe she did change that timeline. She is bound and determined to have her way, regardless.
She is the harbinger of social justice warriors mass produced by academia. This article is an eye-opener: https://amgreatness.com/2019/01/12/why-ocasio-cortez-cant-be-wrong/
“Ocasio-Cortez is an ideologue. She can’t “lose” and she is not humbled when she cannot answer a simple policy question or is abjectly wrong about a subject, because she thinks ideologically. Her answers, outlook, and attitude are predetermined absolutely, because they are all derivations of an ideology that is utterly shock-proof. There is no experiment, fact-check, or body of evidence potent enough to disarm her, plainly because a person who thinks ideologically will not be allow themselves to be refuted.” – Article. My response to it is that she has not met opposing forces until now, and her ‘ideological’ bent is and will be a major hindrance.
What she expected was automatic support. It does not work that way. If you want support, you have to learn to listen to others, be willing to give them the support they are asking for on their projects, and hope that they will reciprocate for yours. You simply cannot run roughshod over people whose good will you may need, if you expect to succeed in reaching your goals.
But by golly, That Girl’s on a roll here and nothin’ – and I mean “NOTHING” – is gonna stop her!
She has not done what she should have done to get her way. Instead, it appears that she went full tilt at everyone, including more moderate Democrats who are now wondering what kind of alliance she really represents. In addition, from the articles linked, she appears to have a Jekyll-Hyde personality, manifested by her friendliness when chatting up reporters and lawyers, but turning on people who oppose her in even a small way.

She’s just amazing, isn’t she? The article at the link from WUWT is short, yes, but hits all the points necessary to understand what a dingbat and a spoiled brat is this one. Not having met her or being required to listen to her ranting, I’m guessing that she has a habit of throwing tantrums to get what she wants and is as abrasive as coarse belt sander sandpaper when opposed. As it is, she seems to be pissing off senior members of the Democrat side of the Congress, a mistake that amateurs frequently make.
This should indeed be an interesting time for all of us. Keep your eyes and ears open and stay tuned for more!

AOC ..Often mistaken but never in doubt
A legend in her own mind.
She isn’t always right but she is never wrong.
She reminds me of a cartoon character at the beginning of a certain country themed variety show. Every time she opens her mouth I see mule teeth and hear “HEE HAW…HEE HAW, HEE HAW, HEE HAW!!!”
She is not that sophisticated.
Archie Bunker said it years ago:
“I may not always be right but I’m never wrong”
Sooner or later everyone including those who are not sufficiently left enough for her so she dismisses them as not woke enough will come to realize that she is number than a box of rocks. She is the end result of living in your mom’s basement, being told your special your whole life and given a participation trophy while ticking off a quota box on the way to a Degree given by SJW’s afraid to tell her the truth: Your pretty damn stupid, now go away.
BTW: She got crazy eyes. Run from those women. They are not worth it
I believe she came from Westchester County and moved to the Bronx where she was elected by her own peeps. She is like that radio host richard fowler whom is a Fox Contributer and talks a lot of garbage about the down trodden in chicago but actually comes from an affluent area in the windy city.
Michael Knowles crushes her when she runs her suck about being from the bronx…hilarious stuff
IDC SARC – she got those ojos locos from you… you made her go WOOO WOOO WOOOOO and now she’s been spouting all sorts of crazy stuff.
Go easier on the wimmins next time, bro…
Keeping with the Looney Tunes theme:

Okay the first one didn’t work, so..

She’s that student who while in college got 15 points taken off for a 10 point question cause she was so fucking wrong.
Are you trying to kill me? Dammit. That’s funny.

This!
I was laughing so hard, tears were running down my cheeks (so glad my “old man” bladder was empty!!!
Let the feeding frenzy begin. Between charles w’s purchase of popcorn futures and our expansion into shuttered pop corn packaging plants, the potential for profits is yuuuge.
While I can almost appreciate/admire her for going after entrenched demon cats that have been enemies of our Republic, I don’t want to see those crooks replaced with a new bunch of socialist money/power grabbers. My hope is that these two groups will be so busy chewing up one another they will miss the flanking assaults of the ones that may actually have the best interest of the country in mind. That is, if there are actually people being elected to office that have the best interests of the country in mind.
It should get interesting. Eternal Vigilance.
Good post Ex. Saw a little blurb somewhere that she was appointed/trying to be appointed for the House Banking Committee with Maxi Pad. AOC with a very low credit score and shady finances along with Maxi Pad’s husband’s bank getting massive amounts of TARP money?….hmmmmm?
I’m waiting to find out what happens when Ms. Obviously-Contentious locks horns with VERY senior members of either House, particularly Mrs. Pelosi. That would be epic – all the stuttering and arm-waving a claw hand stuff, but Nancy has control of The Hammer.
Oh, yeah – I saw this morning that Mr. Sanders is throwing his hat into the ring – AGAIN.
Mrs “Do You Know Who I Am” just ran up against someone with a bigger ego who’s not afraid to use it and lost. This is going to be entertaining as Trump is one guy that can’t be intimidated.
I sure wouldn’t want to be the one without enough sense to avoid a game of one upmanship with Trump.
I also heard that O’crazy-Cortex has also been evicted in her past.
I think she evicted her brain.
Though this does explain her “housing is a fundamental human right” like of entitlement reasoning.
My Con Agra stock (owners of Orville Redenbacher) is up 5% since the election. The dems are going to fight each other as hard as they fight Trump. Nancy and AOC need to take this to the octagon for a pay per view with all proceeds going to the Wall.
A spoiled brat acting like a spoiled brat. No real surprise there.
But her antics are displaying for all just what is wrong with entirely too many among the younger generation. With gratitude, I acknowledge that she by no means represents all of the younger generation. It only takes a few to inspire others to join the parade of decent, hardworking folks.
Thanks for properly using the term “champing”.
Oh, and I only wish someone would put a bit in her mouth.
Or something…..
Stop it, you’re turning on IDC SARC
I’m hoping that she annoys so many people, especially the more “powerful” members of both Houses, that she is buried and can’t get out.
Just my view, but I think she’d chew through a bit, of any kind.
Oddly enough for someone with a degree in economics much of her economic policy commentary is replete with errors and omissions.
Which means she was either a really bad student in spite of the cum laude degree or while working as Teddy Kennedy’s intern she learned the value of a good sound bite while telling all manner of half-truths or outright bullshit simply to get a vote.
Being a somewhat cynical old curmudgeon I suspect the latter, she knows she’s full of shit but she knows her voice is being heard right now by a generation of entitled little wienies who believe that you can actually tax a nation into prosperity and offer all manner of “free” stuff if you just strip the wealth from other people. The problem is her constituency is actually bad at math and aren’t just lying they just don’t understand that you could seize every nickel from the top 1% redistribute it however you wanted and you couldn’t run the government for a year…
The media loves it because she’s a firm believer of the Democrat motto “ORANGE MAN BAD” and she’s young and photogenic when contrasted against her peers in Congress. It makes for great spectacle which sells soap and other products, which is what media is actually all about.
It’s interesting to me because her own party will most likely take her out politically long before the conservatives who all seem to have their panties in a bunch over a single freshman congresswoman who can’t do anything without leadership support. Pelosi is no more progressive than Clinton or Obama were and they’ve no desire to be painted as tax and spend liberals by the Republicans should she support AOC’s nonsensical legislative concepts.
Once the media honeymoon ends I suspect we’ll find out what traction if any AOC can muster beyond the house…
I saw somewhere that Dan Crenshaw from Texas wants to debate her. THAT would be something to see!
That would require an epic watch party! Break out the 7 layer dip and hotwings!
If that happens, please update us with a link to it!! I don’t have a working TV and don’t want one, so I miss a lot of stuff that wastes your time.
But this? A debate between her and Crenshaw? That would be epic!!!
Remember when Ben Shapiro offered to debate her, and give her campaign $10k for it?
yeah, she couldn’t scream misogynist fast enough to get away from him.
If that happens, all I can say is: Get some!
I’m all stocked up on beer and popcorn, I can’t wait to see how big of a shitshow she makes for the D-rats and who will screw who first! It’s SO obvious that she’s a spoiled little brat who has never really had to work hard for anything and now she’s part of The Great Whorehouse on the Potomac River.
I fail to see the issue here. What ever happened to ‘big tent’ politics? Why is she anathema for holding views that are different from the Democrats at large? And, it should be pointed out, different in that they’re more mainstream – according to the Hill/Harris poll, 59% of voters (71% of Ds, 60% of Is and 45% of Rs) support a 70% tax rate on every earned dollar over $10M.
Will it result in a utopia where puppies and unicorns rain from the sky? No, of course not. But the biggest complaint people have about politicians is that they’re out of touch with the people they represent. Here, she seems fairly in touch with them, even if the economics are less certain.
[Poll] https://thehill.com/hilltv/what-americas-thinking/425422-a-majority-of-americans-support-raising-the-top-tax-rate-to-70
LC, you’re cherry picking the majority polling stat on the 70 percent tax rate. Let’s also not forget that polls showed with 90 percent certainty that Hillary Clinton would be President now. Then too, here’s a question: Do you really think somebody like Jeff Bezos, who happens to own the Washington Post and is worth $137 Billion, is actually going to be paying 70 percent of income?
It might also be pointed out that Ocasio-Cortez’s tax-rate proposal is only part of her Socialist agenda that includes universal Medicare, a universal job guarantee, free college, more gun control, a goofy 100 percent renewable energy policy, and the abolishment of ICE– which effectively means open borders.
Although her Green New Deal makes for a provocative talking point, it seems to ignore that Roosevelt’s original New Deal was the result of a harsh depression with a 25 percent unemployment rate. That was then, this is now.
It seems to me that most of the reason Ocasio-Cortez is getting news media traction is because she’s young, photogenic, isn’t bashful about wearing drop-my-panties red lipstick, and is willing to walk over anyone who gets between herself and a TV camera. Which makes her a celebrity to all the leg-humping political pundits who need page hits to keep their jobs.
LC, you’re cherry picking the majority polling stat on the 70 percent tax rate. If so, it was unintentional. I’m quite happy to see other polls; that was simply the first I saw on it. Let’s also not forget that polls showed with 90 percent certainty that Hillary Clinton would be President now. That’s a different discussion, and I think 538 had the odds around 70%. Kneeling players aside, I’ve seen plenty of NFL games where the side favored to win 70/30 ended up losing. In fact, that happens about 3 out of every 10 match ups. That’s not an indictment on odds-makers (or polls), it’s just statistics. Do you really think somebody like Jeff Bezos, who happens to own the Washington Post and is worth $137 Billion, is actually going to be paying 70 percent of income? First, let me say my knowledge of tax law, economics, etc., is definitely not something I’d brag about, but my perhaps naive understanding is that this is a tax on income? Bezos doesn’t have much income, since it’s all tied up in stocks. Unless he sells some, he doesn’t take a hit, no? Again, I could be woefully incorrect on that, but that’s my limited understanding. Also, it’s worth pointing out that even if his salary wasn’t higher, that $137B that Amazon is valued at is over the course of many years, not a yearly income. If you mean to ask do I think whether rich people will find a way around the law, then sure, I do think they will. But they do that already, too. That’s more about enforcement and loopholes than basic ideas, and if that poll is not cherry-picked, it seems a popular idea. Again, I’m pretty far from an economics expert and don’t know enough to argue whether the plan is utterly stupid or not. I just know that we’ve had high tax brackets in the past, and the country didn’t turn into a socialist utopia, and I also can’t really fault a politician for being more in touch with what the people she represents want, even… Read more »
The tax rate isn’t the only issue LC, and I’m not necessarily in disagreement that beyond a certain point taxing more income is a good thing because it keeps the middle class closer to the top tier which is usually best for the nation at large.
For some she presents herself as another representative in government who knows what’s best for you even if you don’t.
For others the numbers she proposes for financing all the “free” stuff don’t work any better than Bernie Sanders numbers work.
Regarding your big tent comment, that’s a common Democrat Party lie I believe. They always tout the big tent but the reality is that you must march in lockstep with those who put the tent up or you’re out on your ass. Just ask Sanders how he was cheated by the DNC and their big tent nonsense, or ask his supporters after he was pushed out of the running how welcome they felt in that tent. The DNC’s exclusive tent was part of the reason HRC did so poorly in 2016. They killed the excitement around Bernie (right or wrong regarding being excited about Bernie there was a distinct buzz within his supporters) and then reaped the benefit of that action.
My ‘big tent’ comment wasn’t in reference to a particular party – I’ve heard both claim the title, but then rarely live up to the idea. I fully agree with your criticisms about the DNC, but I’d argue that the GOP has embraced President Trump so tightly that conservatives of other stripes are also left out in the cold.
My take, as an independent focused on political principles not parties, is that the big tent idea is a good thing and should be encouraged. So I have no major problem with Ms. Ocasio-Cortez not being in lock-step – in fact, I find it a little refreshing. That attitude, even if not her math on how to finance things, should be encouraged,… again, in my opinion.
As for keeping the middle class closer to the top tier, I fully agree, and echoing my frustrations with both parties, I wish their view on taxes weren’t so simplistic and driven by politics, as opposed to knowledge and analysis. I mean, let’s imagine for a moment AOC changed her position – instead of 70% on $10M, she made it 50% on, say, $1.3M? Would that make her a ‘socialist’, like some claim this does? Because if memory serves,… that was the rate Reagan implemented. A drop, from what came before, sure, but still what he chose.
Cherry-picking data again, LC? The 50% top bracket was the initial top bracket in the Reagan tax cuts. But the final number was significantly lower.
The top tax rate under the Tax Reform Act of 1986 was 38.5%. Pretty sure a guy named “Reagan” was POTUS then. And the term “Reagan tax cuts” generally referrs to the aggregate impact of both of them – not merely the first one.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_Reform_Act_of_1986
Not cherry-picking, no – I’m just saying when the Reagan administration pushed the ERTA in 1981, with a top bracket at 50%, was he a socialist? You can make the argument he was, of course, until his glorious transformation into conservative, capitalistic icon in 1986, but between ’81-’86, the top bracket was 50%.
If we go back further, were Ford or Nixon socialists? The top bracket was 70% during their Presidencies.
I just find the labeling to be counter-productive to any real analysis. It’s like when liberals label people ‘racists’ at the drop of a hat – what’s the point? We saw that sort of knee-jerk reaction the other day in reference to Jason Smith (R-MO), and it was unfounded and idiotic.
I’m not arguing your points LC, but it is worth mentioning that she refers to herself as a socialist. So people will probably see socialism in any of her proposals.
My primary issue isn’t whether she’s a socialist or not (and what that means in this context), but the inconsistency we harbor when seeking to dismiss political opponents.
The other day, VOV pointed out how the Left wailed and gnashed their teeth about the brutal, inhumane Bush administration for their drone killings… but that same program, embraced and expanded upon under the hip and cool Obama administration, seemed to warrant only minor grumblings, if any at all, among the same Left.
If drone attacks against suspected terrorists are abhorrent to the Left, fine, but be consistent. If a 70% top marginal tax bracket is the stuff of socialism, fine, but be consistent.
As I said above, I find any sort of dismissive labeling to be counterproductive – when you add an inconsistency to that, it’s even worse.
If you go back and examine those high bracket years, you will find out that there was a whole host of deductions available so that hardly anyone ever paid those high rates. Those deductions went away with the lowering of top marginal rates, and are not available today. Of course the new socialists propose bringing back those old rates without the old deductions.
Right, they’ll make all new deductions, for themselves and the people who contribute to their campaigns….
“Why is she anathema for holding views that are different from the Democrats at large?” It’s not that as I see it. For the D leadership, she is a threat to the swamp denizens. I can see that. But, for many of us out here in the real world, it’s the nature of those views that we reject. The CP did much the same thing with the peasants and working stiffs in Russia, pitting the have nots against the haves. In the end, the benefit went to the elite members of the CP. There is nothing new in her approach.
I use to read every article I could by Thomas Sowell and even in my average brain, I could clearly understand the reasons why tax the rich won’t work. Hey, FDR tried that and what happened – there’s a reason it’s referred to as THE GREAT DEPRESSION. Socialism sounds great till it’s tried then it’s a massive failure. I have hope that all the people that didn’t get out and vote, realize they better next time or we’ll end up with more shitstains like that Ocassional Kotex twatwaddle from NY
SPEW ALERT^^^^^^^
That last sentence…BWAHAHAHAHA…I’m definitely stealing….
College has been so watered down any mention of with honors is meaningless.
IIRC, I read somewhere that something like 90 percent of Harvard undergraduates will graduate, “With Honors,” (Cum Laude) or higher.
And, David Hogg-boi will attend Hah-vahd, with a sub-standard SAT and GPA. So, the whole idea of a Hah-vahd education means very little these days.
According to the Orlando Sentinel, the bottom 25 percent of admitted applicants to Harvard had an average SAT score of 1470. Hogg almost made that cut but fell exactly 200 pts short of that number. As I said before, he will probably be assigned a full-time tutor.
A student who has an SAT of 1270 wouldn’t waste his time applying to any Ivy League school. Hogg so wanted to be in sunny California but was rejected by the lesser schools there. I hope he enjoys the Mass winters. Wanna bet he doesn’t make it two years before he takes a leave of absence as the first step in dropping out?
I doubt that David Hogg the Bony Eared Assfish won’t even make it to his Sophomore year at Hahhhhhvahd!
I give him one semester. The minute the reality of cold weather in the Northeast hits his precious person, he’ll bail out like a dope seller in Bronzeville.
“College has been…”
Can’t say I agree with that. College is not a standardized measure of much at all. Some degree paths are still competitive and difficult.
Where I would agree would be the social sciences in general where there exists a luxury for such a decline.
Ojos-Locos learned everything she knows from watching “Sex and the City,” and it shows.

Well, they finally have someone less capable than the previous occupant.
I love AOC … the more she yaps her flap trap … my love for her deepens.
Keep it up AOC!
