Brazil’s Bolsonaro takes a number for a US military base
One of our usual suspects sent me this American Thinker link, which is a bit on the ironic side. It’s one of my daily go-to sites and I missed this article. There may be another reason as well, but without further ado:
By Monica Showalter
So much for Mitt Romney’s claim that the U.S. has alienated its allies.Actually, they’re lining up, and not just to be friends, but to ask for U.S. military bases stationed on their soil.
When was the last time you heard of nations lining up to ask for U.S. military bases? Not under President Obama, that’s for sure.
The latest is Brazil, whose new president, Jair Bolsonaro, put the idea on the table. The Russians over at RT News, naturally, noticed:
Brazil’s newly-sworn-in right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro has said that he might consider hosting a US military base in the future and called a Brazilian embassy move to Jerusalem a done deal in a new interview on Thursday.
Brazil’s newly-sworn-in right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro has said that he might consider hosting a US military base in the future and called a Brazilian embassy move to Jerusalem a done deal in a new interview on Thursday.
Bolsonaro, dubbed the ‘Trump of the Tropics’ for his rhetoric, uncannily similar to that of US President Donald Trump, lived up to his nickname as he floated the idea of welcoming US soldiers on a permanent basis, reiterated his support for Israel, while calling Venezuela ‘a dictatorship’ and Russia its enabler.
In an interview with SBT broadcaster on Thursday, Bolsonaro said that while he considers physical presence of foreign forces a symbolic move in a globalized word, he is open to the idea of hosting US troops on Brazilian soil.
Brazil joins other nations that have requested military bases, starting with Poland, which offered to call its potential base “Fort Trump,” and to pay for it themselves, too. That interest is not hard to understand, because Poland has the Russian bear at its door, the bear is growling, the bear is bothering other nations, and the bear has been there before. It makes sense for the plains-covered country that always gets run over to have some big, bulky American troops in the vicinity to ensure that the bear thinks twice.
Believe I’d have to do a site survey to ensure the proper amenities were available. Hey, it’s for the troops! Read the rest of Monica’s article here: American Thinker
Tip of the hat to Poetrooper for the link. Thanks buddy, keep ’em coming!
Category: Foreign Policy, Trump!
Love the type. Did you use carbon paper, too?
Hey. Don’t change it. It’s rather refreshing…
Don’t fuck with a hung-over squid, Cav. Nothing good will come of it.
*grin*
We had a whole network of air bases in Brazil during WWII. USAAF had a series of airfields there to fly planes to Africa and CBI as part of its global aircraft ferry route, with the biggest base at Recife on the Brazilian Atlantic bulge. USN also had bases along the Brazilian coast to fly PBYs and patrol bombers in support of the Battle of the Atlantic. Don”t forget that Brazil was the only South American country to actively join the Allies during WWII, and deployed an infantry division to the Italian front in 1944-45. Strategically, a limited-footprint U.S. base set up in the Brazil Atlantic bulge to support potential AFRICOM power projection and deployments into central/Southern Africa may not be such a bad idea. Whether it is feasible politically and policy-wise is another question…
I’ll vote for that. I think it’s a good idea.
Russia/Vlad is making a deal with Marauder for use of an island off the Venezuelan coast to set up a nuke missile base, but why he hasn’t done that with Fidel/Cuba is a mystery to me. Maybe Fidel wants too much moola? Or maybe he thinks he can hide his nefarious stuff better from our snoopers if it’s down near Venezuela?
Can’t be for Venezuela’s muddy oil. Gas at the pump was $2.099 yesterday. I checking Gas Buddy to see how much more it drops.
Fidel…😉
Fidel esta muerto, Ex. Also parking nuke missiles in Cuba didn’t work out real well the last time the Russians tried it, and Putin is no doubt sensitive to that. So far he’s parked some long range bombers on the island, which while concerning doesn’t rise to the level of ICBMs aimed at the US from there.
Be nice to have bases in countries that actually want us to be there. Be nicer if the American Taxpayer had a little help in paying for it.
How many of us have been on bases in countries where they didn’t want us?
Do proper amenities include places to get a Brazilian Wax? (ducks a thrown empty Bloody Mary glass)
Q: “How many of us have been on bases in countries where they didn’t want us?”
A: France…🐸
USA comes to mind
Hawaii…🤙
Norfolk, Bangor (Seattle), Hawaii, Guam, Great Lakes, Charleston….
Puerto del Rico
Commiefornicate comes to mind…
Even this early…
I almost felt more welcome in Viet Nam than California back in 69.
France kicked the US out in 1960. How about Okinawa, Guam, San Francisco, Korea, Afghanistan, Iraq. In England it was over paid, over sexed and over here. Yankee go home but keep sending money.

If memory serves me right, I think you may mean the late 60s, around 1965-1967.
Was living in Verdun at that time before we relocated to Germany because De Gaulle wanted us gone.
I’ve been on plenty of those right here in the good ol USofA.
“Dogs and sailors, keep off the grass.”
What’s your point? Our sign includes Marines.
Dogs get top billing, CM.

“… So 25 years after the US bases were closed down and the facilities were converted to civilian commercial use and Clark and Subic Naval Base became boom cities boasting hundreds of factories, hotels and malls, the bases are back.”
“They are hiding behind a fig leaf claiming that they are not US bases but within Philippine military bases.”
“It’s just a charade. The US troops stationed there will be likely out and about looking for recreational entertainment with sex and will join the already thriving mob of sex tourists that are abusing our young women and children with impunity.”
They forget the US treasury spent over there since the 1898 War. They forget the sacrifices made to push the Japanese out. They forget the protection the US gave thru the years after WWII.
In spite of its warts the USA has done more for the world and its own people than any other nation in modern history. Wonder how many wanna be socialists/communists will remember that as they are led off to the re-education camps, the “showers” or just before that small caliber bullet enters the base of their skull.
Defend/save our Country first. Then we can work on the rest of the world.

Yep. That is why the UN is useless. Just my 2 pennies.
IMHO the United Nothing needs to be evicted from NYC and then the place it currently occupies can be turned into the Donald J. Trump Presidential library!
Woodrow Wilson’s Wet Dream needs to die and burn in Hell right next to his white-supremacist ass.
Every single one of us, 5/77.
Nice windmill.
Nice people

Changes that newly inaugurated President Jair Bolsonaro of Brazil plans to implement. One of them is to move the Brazilian embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.

Geezo Pete, what’s next?
We re-open Roosevelt Roads?
Turn Tinian into an airbase?
Start training Navy/Marine pilots at Waukegan International Airpor?
Revive Chanute AFB at Rantoul?
Have I missed any so far?
Clark AFB, Subic Bay……..
Ex, I’m surprised you missed NTC Orlando. That was a nice base. How about NTC San Diego? Amazing that the Navy would close those two warm-weather bases and consolidate all basic training at that God-awful Great Lakes.
The whole point of BRAC was income generation. Real eastate in San Diego vs. Great Lakes? From a $ standpoint, not even a contest.
Ditto in Orlando where NTC sat on prime real estate just north of Colonial Drive and the former McCoy AFB is now the huge Orlando International.
However, many closed bases just became industrial parks, which may or may not generate enough in taxes to offset the lost military/civilian employee payrolls, not to mention the lost populations and housing demand.
Orlando????? I hated that place!!!
8-foot alligators nesting eggs barely 20 feet from the pool when I was “instructing” recruits in swimming – NO THANK you!!!
Disney World was undergoing all kinds of construction when I was there, and there was grit and sand in everything, including my food.
I hated that place. It was like being in a big sweatbox, sitting between a gator and an armadillo.
Almost forgot: Great Lakes has expanded considerably since you left. There is a Navy Sailors museum nearby, and there are annual open houses. You should visit it some day.
Went to boot at RTC Orlando in 68. Just a beautiful base. Tried to get stationed back there later in my career but it didn’t work out.
We were briefed if driving in San Juan after dark to cruise through traffic signals, to avoid being car jacked. Nice place.
Guam and especially Okinawa come to mind. Guam is reliant on Japanese tourists who go there b/c of the nice beaches and also to pay homage to their relatives who died during WW2. Tourism and military is pretty much how Guam survives.
Brazil – ? So far we’e received requests from Romania and Poland as well, I’m all in favor of us opening bases in Eastern Europe first!
Gotta love that “Trump of the Tropics” moniker…
I’d volunteer for a PCS move to Brazil, after I do my KD.
I would even learn Brazilian to communicate better with all those Victoria’s secret supermodels.
Portugese and Spanish are spoken in Brazil, now stop huffing the floor wax!
“…now stop huffing the floor wax!”
Slow Joe has to do something to get the taste of Commissar’s asshole out of his mouth.
Great!!! I’ll be trying to get Maker’s Mark air of my phone case for hours.
Thanks for that.
Out, not air.
Not sure if it was the whiskey or autocorrect
Might have been the whiskey…
Might have been the Gin…
I was never attracted to the Victoria’s secret supermodels type. Let’s see … 5’10”, 90 pounds, size zero. I don’t even know why they bother to eat that celery stalk. They’re going to puke it up in an hour or swallow a box of laxatives.
American thinker?
The articles are great, but lose a few IQ ppints every time I read the comment section.
Only the DU has dumber people.
Speaking of losing IQ ppints…
gotta have ’em to lose ’em? eh Poe? (snert)
Yeah, if only there was a member here who would commonly be showcased on AT, and was known for his rational thoughts, rapier sharp wit, and on the mark criticisms of progtard idiocy.
Could use a guy like that around here.
The struggle is real.
If we could find such an individual, he would probably demand a corresponding cut in pay.
What is this “pay” of which you speak?
According to Hondo, it is located in Webster’s book between ration and vd. Also is considered as a back up prize for the 1st FIRST on a Random Open or Mid week Open Thread.
Not exactly sure what it is but I have been told under competent authority it has nothing to do with “Top Shelf Whiskey.”
We do not want to contact TAH WW Hqs to ask them. That never works out well. You may recall they sent some poor sucker out to piss off a MCPO. And THAT, never ends well.
You don’t have any to lose in the first place, dickhead.
What?
My GT score was really high. Almost 80.
Get your head out of Lars’s ass. Might as well fuck yourself while you’re at it.
Hey!
What do I have to do with this?!?
All your base are belong to U.S.
I’m a lurker and poster on Brazilian Jui Jitsu Forums.
BJJ has a strong presence in California, so naturally there are quite a few practitioners that are liberals.
They have lost their minds that Brazil elected Bolsonaro.
The funny thing is that the Gracie family, who pretty much bought BJJ to the US are all strong supporters of Bolsonaro.
