But thanks for playing.
Self-defense argument rejected in shooting over fireworks.
AP News

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) A man who shot a teenager as several people shot fireworks at him will not be able to claim self-defense during his upcoming trial.

Twenty-year-old Rashan Gill, of Lawrence, is scheduled to go on trial Jan. 14 for criminal discharge of a weapon.

The Lawrence Journal-World reports Gill is accused of shooting at a group of people who were firing Roman candle fireworks at him and his apartment on July 5. One of the shots hit a 17-year-old girl who was in the group’s car. She suffered serious injuries but survived.

Gill’s attorney planned to use Kansas’ stand-your-ground law to claim Gill was justified in the shooting.

The Douglas County District Attorney said this week that a judge rejected that defense and ordered Gill to stand trial on the criminal charge.

Don’t bring a roman candle to a gunfight?

Model 66?

Hayabusa

No, that’s some kind of Colt. You can tell from the cylinder latch.

David

66 had adjustable sights, the Smith fixed sight stainless equivalent in .357 is the model 65. An easy tell between most Smiths and Colts is the frame angle ahead of the trigger guard – most pockets Smiths have a very squared-off vertical angle there. Colts are usually angled more like you see here. Plus Smiths don’t have that screw on the left side of the frame. Believe the Cobras were .38s except for King Cobras in .357.

Bill M

Bought my dad a Colt Cobra for Christmas many, many years ago. Bought it in Texas and took it with me in my carry-on when I flew home at Christmas . It was a .38 cal.

(Shows you how many years ago it was. Travel was easier then – 1969.)

Idiots all around?

Judge must have never been around fireworks, if one of any fireworks hit you they can cause severe burns at the least and if one lands on or in your house it can burn it down. Sounds to me as the accused was defending himself from bodily and property damage. Course if something had happened to him or his property the judge would most likely dropped any charges against the kids as to they were “just having fun”.

OldManchu

We used to shoot bottle rockets at each other back in the early 80’s before the pussification of America happened.

Grunt

Dihydrogen monoxide is pretty dangerous too. Sometimes kids fill balloons with this chemical that is found in cancers and fire suppression equipment. It can kill if inhaled.

I’ll be keeping my powder dry.

Imagine the problems we would have it were flammable! At least it dissipates harmlessly when heated in open containers.

Attempted arson of an occupied dwelling sounds worthy of gunfire.
imo

One DRT, one WRT, and one dumbass using poor judgement. He may eventually walk on the criminal case; may not be so lucky on a potential civil case. Looks like a good start to the FIRST of the week. Still basking in the glory of earning (never given) the Coveted Title of FIRST for the TAH Friday Weekend Open Thread.

Fought many a rocket bottle battle as a young’un and an adult. Never had an eye put out, and never put out an eye. Also never started a brush fire. Roman candles; that can be a different story. Homeboy better have a real Attorney vs a lawer.

Dihydrogen monoxide has been know to dilute good whiskeys and bourbon. Just like your wives and girlfriends, may they never meet.

ps: Private note to AW1Ed. You keep posting these pr0n pistol pictures, you can’t expect the commentators to track the thread subject matter.

Ummm …
that’s a risk I’m willing to take.

5th/77th FA

Ditto, plus SA and nitro tabs, bring it!

Bill M

I’ll risk it, even with the stents. Bring it on! 😎

Lawrence is not exactly a bastion of sanity. I remember back in the ’70s when the DA declined to prosecute a football star because it would hurt the team when he beat the snot out of someone for a minor incident.
