Hardin County man faced with the decision to open fire on suspected home burglars
Author: Parris Kane
At around 3:30 in the morning, Travis Yust was faced with a tough decision, to pull the trigger or let the men he believed to be responsible for breaking into his home get away.
BATSON — Travis Yust has lived in Batson all his life, but on November 8th he was forced to realize it’s no longer the safe town where he grew up.
In a matter of minutes, Yust went from sleeping peacefully in his home, to protecting it. At around 3:30 in the morning, Yust was faced with a tough decision, to pull the trigger or let the men he believed to be responsible for breaking into his home get away.
“My wife woke me up and said the dogs are barking and our door beeped,” explained Yust.
Yust said they have a home alarm, but it wasn’t activated that night. The door, however, beeps every time it’s opened. He said he assumed the wind blew open the door.
“I turned on the light and noticed that my gun safe door was wide open, and right then I panicked,” said Yust, “I said, I’ve been robbed.”
Yust ran outside and grabbed his thermal imaging scope. He managed to spot the alleged thieves hiding across the street on the property of one of his relatives.
“I immediately went and grabbed my rifle, mounted my scope onto the rifle, grabbed a pistol, and headed off down the driveway,” said Yust.

Jose Luis Gonzalez Jr., 41, was known by the homeowner
TIGARD, Ore. (KOIN) — An intruder was shot to death by the owner of a small townhouse in Tigard early Wednesday while 2 teenagers were at home.
Tigard police said the homeowner called 911 around 7 a.m. to report the trespasser. When officers arrived at the home on SW Sage Terrace, the suspect, later identified as Jose Luis Gonzalez Jr., was dead.
Gonzalez was 41.
“We received a 911 call to our dispatch center shortly after 7 o’clock this morning and it was from a homeowner advising that there was someone trespassing, an intruder,” said Jim Wolf with Tigard police. “Initially the call also provided information that the intruder was shot. So at this point, police are investigating the intruder, who is deceased at the scene.”
Tigard police said Wednesday afternoon Gonzalez and the homeowner knew each other, but it’s not known why he tried to enter the townhouse. Officials also said the homeowner is fully cooperating.

Wonder why homeboy in Hardin kept his thermal scope outside? From the article, “ran outside and grabbed”; Sister Mary Grace would have somebody staying after school ‘splaining that whole article. Good on Admiral Ed posting these kind too. Know your local law; can’t shoot the dirtbags across the street, too far to drag them back and you don’t want to leave a blood trail.
Surprised that the executioner of the dirtbag in OR, wasn’t locked up. Isn’t that a sanctuary state now for people with Latino sounding names.
They can’t blame this one on Bernath 🙂
Isn’t DNB grounded for life now? Doesn’t he have dead on alibi?
Terrain Terrain, Pull up Pull up….
Splat.
No Bitchin’ Betty in the rig he managed to get in the air.
If there was he’s have a lawsuit on her. That is, if he wasn’t at ambient temperature.
I think that is what the head of the Home Owners Association was trying to say (in PC terms)…”WTF we can’t have people defending themselves against illegals in Oregon…we have laws against that!” We will need to make sure that is explicit in the HOA, no firearms allowed.
Home alarm wasn’t activated.
House door left unlocked.
Gun safe not locked.
Sounds like a real dumbass.
Last week it was some guy named Hardin.
This week it’s a county named Hardin.
Just sayin.
And awhile back it was the Hardin Family in Hardin KY. Is this a noticeable trend?
I had left that part in the post alone; didn’t want to start any rumors.
Has an alarm system but door can be blown open by the wind? I’m assuming it wasn’t closed and locked.
Did scum have combination to his gun safe? If not, he may have left it open?
Has guns for defense of self and family but door may be opened by the wind?
