Military veterans to fight gun violence.
I never felt that Marie Harf was one of the brighter crayons in the box. Her opinion about most anything took a dive with me a few years ago.
“We cannot win this war by killing them. We cannot kill our way out of this war,” Harf said at the time. Harf continued,” We can help them build their economies so they can have job opportunities for these people,”. The comment led to a top-ten hashtag on Twitter that day, #JobsforISIS.
All I was asking was to Give War a Chance. I thought the problem was having to ask permission to kill people on the battlefield. I could not disagree with her more, we most certainly can kill our way out of these conflicts and we should.
She is now reporting that Gabby Giffords Gun Group is going to use veterans to speak out about the gun problem in this country.
The organization is launching an ad campaign to highlight an important constituency that is becoming increasingly vocal in the gun debate: prominent U.S. military leaders and veterans.
The new ad features retired Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, who experienced war firsthand during his over 37 years in Army.
In the first scene, Hertling opens a box on his desk containing 253 cards with the names and photos of soldiers under his command who were killed in combat. He ties the pain he felt on their deaths to the pain parents must feel losing a child to gun violence.
It is immediately clear then that this is a new kind of gun safety advocate.
I have no idea what is new about it. I would say that most all veterans are against Thugs and Criminals using guns. Here is one of the adds:
I have no idea what kind of Action Plan this “Veteran” has in mind. Seems like another “let’s talk about it some more” kinda plan. It reeks of the same old “Grab the Guns” from law-abiding citizens plan to me. Ok General Who Everyouare, let’s talk.
“We’ve all seen the tragedy associated with gun violence up close and personal and we’ve all used weapons, we all own weapons, and we all believe in the Second Amendment, ”Hertling told me in an interview. He will also join “Benson & Harf” on Fox News Radio this Tuesday between 6 and 8 p.m. EDT.
“But we also understand,” Hertling continued, “that we are plagued by this disease of gun violence, and we really need to do something about it.”
This new ad campaign is worth paying attention to, especially for gun owners who might otherwise be hesitant to consider the message. It could be significant for the gun debate moving forward, because the ads rely on the words of nonpartisan military leaders who can’t be dismissed as “liberals who just don’t understand gun culture.”
I would love the opportunity to “Talk” with one of Giffords Gullible Glee Club members. I don’t have a box full of cards with KIA on them and if I did…I would have no idea how that is pertinent to gun violence in America. I personally avoid pimping out my dead brothers for causes of any kind.
Marie Harf has still not impressed me.

“Weapon culture has gotten out of control”
Not from where I’m sitting, General.
The only thing out of control is the anti-Constitutional behavior by legislators brought about by divisiveness from anti-gun groups.
The Utopia they promise will kill far more people, I promise you.
Marie is the kind of Harf-wit ditz that gives rise to the undeserved “dumb blond” image.
In her case it appears that there is a direct relationship between willful ignorance and her choice to be blond.
Two blonds in Texas were walking one late moonlit evening while excitedly discussing an upcoming beach trip to Florida.
One of them, while looking up at the moon, says:
“Uh, like, I wonder what’s further away… the moon, or Florida?”
To which the other blond replies:
“Duh, like it’s obviously Florida, you can’t even see Florida and you can see the moon.”
“we cannot win this war by killing them”, who in hell is she talking about?
I sure am happy I went out and bought another scary black rifle this weekend! I hope these whores need protection someday? Remember when seconds count, the cops are only minutes away!
And according to the SCOTUS, the police also have no obligation to protect you individually. See Castle Rock v. Gonzales (2005).
I believe the famous one was the DC ruling of the same sort where the two women were held, raped, beaten, etc, for over 18 hours even though there were obvious signs of a crime ongoing and the cops cruised by without unassing their car to check on the call they managed to make.
The case you reference was Warren v. DC (1981) – but that was a DC Circuit Court of Appeals case. The case never made it to the SCOTUS.
Warren v. DC apparently does outright state that the police in general have no duty to protect persons as individuals (their duty is to protect the public generally, not each and every individual as individuals). However, since it wasn’t a SCOTUS case it’s not controlling legal precedent nationwide.
Castle Rock v. Gonzales (2005) was a SCOTUS case. In Castle Rock v. Gonzales, the town was sued for failing to enforce a valid restraining order (IMO a far stronger argument than the nebulous “the police have a duty to protect me simply because I exist” argument in Warren v. DC) – and the SCOTUS ruled, 7-2, that the town’s police had no such obligation. And since it’s a SCOTUS opinion, it IS controlling legal precedent nationwide.
Yes, the law is well settled across the country that LEO’s have no duty to protect any person from crime or harm unless the person is in their custody. In many states, there are statutes that give law enforcement officers and entities express immunity from any civil liability from failure to enforce the law or apprehend criminals.
How in hell do you protect the public “generally”…more idiots with their mouth open drooling on the media!
Police do not have a constitutional duty to protect except when an individual is in their legal custody. Remember the shooting at Marjory Stoneham Douglas HS in Parkland, FL in February?
A school resource officer (SRO)—a sheriff’s deputy—remained outside Building 12 during the shooting; he was suspended without pay the following day but he immediately retired. Although this officer was criticized for being cowardly, he had no constitutional duty to protect. It might be argued the officer had an ethical or moral duty to act in the defense of innocent lives but he was not legally compelled to do more than he did.
Yeah, that’s one of those “night security jobs” where nothing happens and all I have to do is walk around looking tough and important for a bunch of years and then I can retire.
Right up there with the service members who went AWOL in the first couple years after 9/11 because they didn’t expect to have to go to war, they just joined for college money or a steady paycheck.
Fuck that guy, I hope he’s berated daily for his cowardice for the rest of his life.
Harf would have greater impact working for Larry Flynt.
Eeeewwww………
did you have to say that……..
Eeeewwwwwww……..
I just threw up a little in my mouth.
Don’t think that even IDC-SARC would hit it, except with a you know a 2X4?
You underestimate The SARC!
We have a long history of generals who know “oh so much more than you”. Hertling is but a recent example. If you watch his TED talks he comes across as the only person capable of reason and critical thought. Of course, he sees an all powerful government as the cure to all social ills.
The list of such crapweasels is long, but distinguished….
Remember, those whose careers involve the use of taxpayers as resources and were treated as perfumed princes are not to be trusted with public policy.
Gen. Hertling would have been in his glory as a British Gen. back in 1776 when Britain stopped the shipments of Brown Bess rifles to the not yet American colony.
Marie Harf is the type that you would see eating a box of crayons…
Snorting Trojan’s…..
And tasting Tide Pods!
The “Fundamental changing of America.” is the biggest problem we have. Turning hoards of criminals loose on the American people and flooding criminals across our borders to cause mayhem among our people is what is the cause of violence of all types. Failing to act when a known trouble maker is causing problems such as the mass murderer in a Florida high school recently is a prime example.
Wait until “criminal justice reform” and “prison reform” put millions of supposedly non-violent offenders back out on the streets.
Well, if scaring people into giving up their guns hasn’t worked, then obviously, the next best step is to try to use psychology on us peons, convince us that we don’t really need them after all, and reassure us that the Po-po will do the job of protecting us for us, just like Mommy & Daddy were supposed to do.
The real issue is that the scared-of-guns bunch are afraid that you’ll rise against them and behead them or something, because you obviously have nothing better to do with your time.
It is hard to “behead ” them with a gun…now a machete, thats a different story lol 😉
Do wish I could have sent my firearms to that school to teach them how to go out and self commit some violence. You know, the ones I had before the tornado came thru. All of my firearms kinda just acted as drawer queens, book weights, wall hangers, or hid behind doors and in closets. They never evolved to the point where they had built in booger hooks attached to their bang switches. “Choice to be a blond and willful ignorance.” “Like”
Marie Harf reminds me of US Army CPT Brittany Debarros (remember her?):
https://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=80702
An update on Debarros. She now has a Go Fund Me site to retain a lawyer…it seems the investigation on her is still ongoing:
https://www.gofundme.com/fund-war-resister-cpt-debarros
“On June 23, Army Reserve CPT gave this gut-wrenching speech about U.S. militarism and the war economy. Within days she was threatened with investigation despite her actions being clearly and fully within her rights.
Nevertheless, when she was put on 2 week Annual Training Orders weeks later, she continued to bravely share difficult truths through her #14DayOrders #14DaysOfResistance social media series which published a daily fact about the Military Industrial Complex, mostly from government data sources.
After what amounted to a hit piece by the Army Times and additional coverage by Business Insider and Task&Purpose among others, an investigation against Brittany was formalized and remains ongoing.
Given the long history of harsh repression, active military personnel of conscience who choose to speak up do so at great risk to themselves and need our support. Brittany retained a private attorney who specializes in military free-speech to represent her at a discount, but the costs remain unclear and could still be considerable depending on how Brittany’s chain of command decides to proceed. This fund has been established by her supporters to assist her through this process.”
I just got a concussion facepalming myself.
How can someone who doesn’t even understand their enlistment contract, the UCMJ, or the regs of their branch be considered an intelligent voice in any debate?
As an American, she retained the right to speak out. Sure she did. However, as a member of the military she was subject to harsh punishment should she speak out on some topics.
Reality seems to have smacked her right up side her head. She may or may not ever figure that out.
Mason and OWB:
She falls into the same category as this Company and this Person:

😉
Hertling is about as non-partisan as Obama… he condemned Trump during the campaign and has constantly criticized him in his job at the Clinton News Network. He was a headlined on the famous list of 55 flag officers who opposed Trump, seemed to think Trump was personally responsible for the ambush that killed our guys in Niger.. the list goes on. Obama guy through and through. I would be more surprised if he actually knew how to fire a non-military weapon.
How was Trump responsible for Niger, but Hillary had nothing to do with Benghazi?
So you’re saying that Hertling was one of those sycophants who thought he could get a job in the cabinet as SECDEF, VA Sec, etc.? When that didn’t work out, he doubles down on the anti-Trump to get hired by CNN. Well played, general.
Convoluted question, Mason, but correct.
And yes, Hertling is one of The Them who think they’ll find themselves at the top of the heap when The Time Comes.
Hertling was featured in one of TAH’s posts:
https://valorguardians.com/blog/?p=77994
Yep – SS/DD.
Gotta make the big bucks somehow, I guess. Apparently 3-star retired pay isn’t enough for him.
I THOUGHT the name Hertling sounded familiar. My 8 year old daughter handles a rifle better than him.
“I don’t own AR-style rifles to look “cool” or “look like a soldier”, General. I was cool before I owned one and I was a soldier while you were still a cadet.
He says some ignorant bullshit about people who want should be able to buy them, but the rifle should be kept out of the “wrong hands”. I guess he wants to be on the council that determines “wrong hands”.”
Jonn had a habit of never speaking his mind, didn’t he? Classic.
Hey, cut the general some slack, he was shooting his AR on “full semi-auto./s
Then he doubled down on stupid with this lame excuse, “For all those critiquing my phrase “full semi automatic,” you are correct. I was attempting to inform the crew that I was going from “single shot” to continuous trigger and rapid trigger pull using the semiautomatic capability. WTF does that even mean? https://twitchy.com/bethb-313034/2018/02/27/ar-15-full-semi-automatic-2-0-cnn-military-analyst-mark-hertling-addresses-critics/
But,hey, he’s a “consultant” for CNN.
Marie Harf is why I stopped watching Fox Sunday.
Big Bird would have made a better panelist.
She always reminded me of that movie scene where the guy tells his secretary to let her hair down, shake it loose, and take off her glassses – then looks at the result and says “Funny, it always seemed to work in the movies”. (Gig Young in “Teacher’s Pet”)
I just can’t comprehend why they hired her. Seriously, she’s not attractive, she’s dumb, all she does is parrot what others tell her to say. At least the other women of Fox I know of have a brain and their own opinions on issues.
Every show needs a character to provide comic relief.
She’s on Fox’s outnumbered during the week.
I have never understood why Fox hired her and the other spokeshole babes from 0bama’s propaganda ministries.
Because, Rupert Murdoch’s sons are liberals.
That is the concise, clever comment of the day.
Harfy the Harpy is at it again…
She’s a bimbo. A store window manikin has a higher IQ.
A block of limestone could outsmart her.
It always strikes me as odd that the left is first to admit that it is not a single thing that is the problem (i.e. video games, lack of parental supervision, social media, access to graphic violence in media such as music, videos, movies, video games, or degrading of morals through the systematic dissolution of the family unit) but they want to try to blame a single thing and claim its banishment will cure all the problems with society.
We did not have this problem 50 years ago, and there were almost as many guns then. We need more rallies to demand the banning of cars after some drunk plows into a crowd! We need more boycotts of the Kitchen Store after some crazy stabs an ex-girlfriend (who had complained he was harassing her) with a kitchen knife! And last but most important we need to protest the sale of video games after someone shoots his competitors after loosing in a video game contest! However, to make all of these effective we need a cooperating national press to cover the boycott, protest, or rally!
You make far too much sense. They will never listen to you.
It’s always the fault of guns, you see. It’s like paper clips. Those are the eggs. Then they become wire coat hangers. Before long, they’ve grown into tricycles, and can move about freely, and then they become the near-adult stage – bicycles – and the final staga is – AIRPLANES. WITH MACHINE GUNS.
Sorry, got carried away there.
Don’t confuse the issue with facts buddy….
You don’t win wars by killing the enemy. Well, there you go. She’s brilliant and we would be well advised to heed her every word, especially on matters of war and the 2nd A.
In Marie Harfs perfect world Chicago street thugs would settle their differences dueling with foam pool noodles until exhausted then sit down together for Chai tea.
Clearly not the brightest nor sharpest crayon in the box.
How come she didn’t talk Adolph into singing koombia and sit around a camp fire banging two sticks together singing Sara Sponda Sara Sponda.
Leftists hate the military unless some useful idiots appear to be used as appeal to authority logical fallacies. The Left using the military in a campaign to disarm and remove civil rights is rich though. This is exactly why the government is restricted from banning firearms in the first place. Now these Leftists have exposed themselves as wanting authoritative government to take their civil liberties.
Also fuck any so called veteran advocating the government ban firearms or take away 2nd amendment rights. You’re scum plain and simple you blue falcon gutter trash.
“Non-partisan military leaders,” my ass. This guy is just another flag officer who has sold out to the progtard/Democrats. When we start taking advice on our 2A rights under the Constitution from has-beens like him, we are truly doomed to be subservient serfs of a police state.
Of note is the fact he was no infantryman. He was an Armor officer. The principal weapons with which he has any familiarity are armored vehicles with crew served guns. Taking gun possession and use advice from him is like getting your dental work done by a proctologist.
Armor Officers also lead Cavalry Reconnaissance formations and are interchangeable with infantry officers in ABCT formations.
Their BOLC is even integrated with 11As now as well.
Well he has no CIB. And as a company grade and field grade officer he served in tank units. And I am talking about his history back in the 1980’s and early 90’s. He is also likely a five jump chump, based on his bio on Wiki.
I should add that I am aware Armor officers can be shoehorned into infantry slots. I convinced our battalion commander in the Viet of the Nam to make a newly assigned O-3 Armor Officer to be my replacement CO of D Co./3rd Bn/21st Inf. Poor bastard thought he was going to get a REMF or staff slot, but he had to take command of an infantry rifle company. I hated to saddle the company with a FNG C.O., but the war was essentially over for us and I only had three weeks left on my 15 month extended tour. I wasn’t going to spend them living out of a ruck in the bush; plus, I had an extra one week R&R to burn.
The first assignment for one of my instructors at Engineer Basic Officer Leaders Course was as an Infantry Platoon Leader in 3rd ID (can’t remember Company, Battalion, or Regiment) even though he was branched Engineer.
Ah… hm… a General… calling for the disarming of the citizenry. I didn’t move to some third world POS dictatorship… did I?
War violence is not the same as gun violence. I love this trend on the Left to take advantage of people not having critical thinking skills anymore. SOme idiot sheeple will see this ad and think, “Yeah, see, get rid of guns and you get rid of war!” or something. Morons.
